View Full Version : Possible reason for never-ending detox

Starting about a month ago, I started to get some unpleasant symptoms that I just attributed to detox. First it was fatigue, then athlete's foot, then acne breakouts. I was hoping it would go away, but all of them kept getting worse, and I was getting so tired that I was sleeping about 8 hours a night and needing to come home and take naps, which I really don't have time to do. I periodically have liver function tests done since I was having problems at one point, and even though they had gone way down when I went raw about four months ago, the test I had in the beginning of January had shot back up again. Then these past few weeks I ended up with severe bloating and indigestion along with being extremely hungry all the time.

So I started doing a little research, and since I've had candida before, I thought that might be it. But the remedies which worked for me before didn't work this time. And then I stumbled across the problem of parasites. The treatment is a combination of three herbs, and it didn't look like they could do much harm, so I tried them out. Within 24 hours, my indigestion was gone and my stomach feels like it's shrunk about five sizes now that the bloating is gone. My energy has also started to go back up.

I'm not going against the idea of detox, since my body was obviously detoxing the toxins created by the parasites, but for those people who have symptoms that just don't seem to go away, I thought I would mention this as a possibility. I'm thinking I could have gotten them during the short period of time where I had gone back to cooked food. The bad part is that although I would say raw foods definitely decrease your chances of getting them, they're just about everywhere in our environment.

Hope this information helps!

yeah, me too--what herbs did you use and did you have other symptoms that made you think you had parasites?

I bought a tincture of black walnut, wormwood, and cloves. I've also been eating garlic and pumpkin seeds since those are supposed to help as well. And the symptoms I listed were all of the ones I had. I would say one of the main ones was the fact that everytime I ate, my stomach ballooned out to the point of looking pregnant. Plus the chronic fatigue. I had so much energy when I first went raw, so I was really confused when all of a sudden I felt like I could fall asleep at any minute.

i had the same thing happen to me!

about 4 months after eating raw i broke out in small pimples all over my chest and neck. really attractive. and i thought, oh, here's my detox! but after a month of the same thing not going away, i went to see my ayurvedic practitioner who checked my pulses and announced that it was parasites, gave me some herbs (black walnut, cloves, among others). Within 4 days the symptoms started noticeably clearing up, although I kept up the herbs for 60 days just to clean my system of the little buggers.

i think it can still be classified as detox. you always have parasites in your body, but if you change really fast, i think you can create imbalances that allow them to flourish? or maybe as your body start regulating itself better, it starts bringing these issues forward for you to deal with. whereas maybe before raw, "intestinal parasites" weren't even on your body's top ten list of priorities, and now it can start knocking some of these things off. which is why i have found that ayurveda and raw have been such a powerful healing combo for me, i go in with my detox symptoms and my ayurvedic practitioner tells me what it is and where it is coming from and gives me some gentle herbal support.
