Hi everyone!
Im new here (obviously! :D)!
My names Hayley/Hayz, and I live in Somerset in the UK.
At the grand old age of 19, I find myself drawn to a raw food life style.
Ive been reading for several months, but not really put anything into practice, and have no idea what to eat.
At 205 lbs, and 5ft 4 inches tall, I could do with losing weight and eating healthily, and I think a raw food, or mostly raw food diet would be a good idea.
My parents arent keen on anything "abnormal" though, so I'm probably going to have to have a cooked evening meal until I can move out in the next few weeks.
Does anyone have ideas for (cheap) things that I can eat that don't require a blender, dehydrator, saladacco, or juicer?
Like dips and things?

Hi Hayley,

I'm just down the road from you in Reading - Hi :)

Have you got Alissa's book? My favourite dip is the zucchini hummus (courgette to us!) . I got the raw tahini from detoxyourworld.com and from memory the rest of the ingredients are peeled courgettes, lemon juice, olive oil. (It makes a lot if it's just for you so make about a third of the recipe).

Oh - just saw that you don't have a blender. I use a babyfood processor that i bought for about £12 so that might be a cheap tool to buy to process small amounts of things.

If you don't have a blender, avocados make a good base for dips as they can be mashed with a fork. You can then add chopped tomatos, lime juice and chopped chilli or red onion to make guacamole.

I've just found out about a raw food pot luck in Reading on 1st March so if you can get there and you want to meet other raw foodies let me know and I'll put you in touch with the organisers :)

Nice to meet you :)

Welcome!
Avocados are a food that is easily prepared without "Tools".
You can mix them up and put in whatever flavorings you like and then dip celery or carrots in. Add a tomato and it gets really yummy! I don't know if they're very expensive where you are , though. Also, if you can get your hands on raw almonds they are very satisfying. I soak the overnight, drain and then put a drop of olive oil and some spices on them. Stir them up and you have a very nutritious snack. They are softer than regular almonds this way.
Go crazy with salads! I like baby spinach and other vegies with cut up oranges and a bit of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It all depends on what you like!
Best wishes on your journey!!

Yeah, I've got Alissas' book.
It's going to become a bible for me, I think.:D
I have a hand blender, but it doesn't blend that many things, and you get thick lumpy bits in the resulting mixture. :(

Aloha and Welcome to RFT!!! Alissa's book has some great things that don't require dehydration.... even marinara sauce or the pesto sauce -- if you don't have the angel hair noodle making thing-y ... just use a vegetable peeler and make larger zuchini noodles (like for the fettucini recipe)!

still fabulously delicious! :D

blessings on your journey!! so glad you have found this forum -- it's wonderfully supportive!!

RAWk on!

Hi Hayley! Welcome! I'm a returning raw foodie (new back this week), and here's my 2 cents:

Can you prepare a great salad every night to share with your family? Some great dressing and wonderful fresh veg go a long way towards satisying my desire for FLAVOR! And maybe it'll be easier just to say, "No thanks, I'll stick with the salad for tonight" rather than "I won't eat your food because it's not raw". Especially since you're moving out soon.

My fave breakfast is a crisp apple sliced and dipped in raw almond butter (which you can get at a health food store --it's pricey, but it goes a long way, I promise!) It gives me carbs for energy, fat and protein for satisfaction and long-term energy.

I'm glad to meet you here, and I look forward to sharing and learning with you!

Welcome....it's good to have you. Of course there are alot of things that you can do without kitchen equipment. You said you have been reading alot about raw....have you read Alissa's book? I think that it is one of the best tools you could first have. Good Luck!!! Oh, her book has tons of recipes in it.
