For the last couple of days it has felt like I have a huge lump in the back of my throat. I have been drinking water, have been raw for a month btw, and I am not sure what this is? Is it a common detox symptom. I don't have any food stuck in my throat I don't think, but this feeling is kinda freaking me out.

I have had the same thing for almost 2 weeks now! It's really starting to freak me out. I started to debate wether or not to go to the doctor just to have it looked at. I haven't been to the doc in 5 years and I would like to keep it that way, but this is really strange. I doesn't hurt, just feels like a lump. Maybe someone here knows what this is...

I had this happen to me a few years back. It didn't hurt, but it felt like a lump when I swallowed. It was weird and scary.

I went to the doc and he said it was heartburn. HUH??? And I said, NO, it's not - I know what that feels like but he insisted that my esophagus wasn't closing and the sensation I felt was heartburn... he prescribed 2 different meds which I did not take. It was a good lesson for me to take my health into my own hands! :D Anyway, long story short, I did a barium swallow after going back a 3rd time and he said there was nothing there. Eventually it just went away.

So my advice is "do not panic" and give it a few weeks. It will most likely resolve itself on its own. Oh, and FWIW, I know someone else that this happened to and it went away, too.

I used to have this every now and then on my SAD diet, never happened in my 2 years raw though.

I think it literally was a lump, I believe I remember either swallowing it or managing to spit it out, I think it comes out as a white lump of whatever it is.

It's been too long since I've had this to rmember how to either swallow it or spit it out.

Do you drink beetroot juice? When I juiced a whole beetroot my throat closed over for about an hour. It felt awful.

Hmmm, that sounds like a tonsil stone. I used to get those way back when I actually had tonsils still! Gross, to be sure, but they are quite benign, a.f.a.i.k.

I had this one time and it drove me crazy. It was several years ago. I had a really bad cough that wouldn't go away. The doctor gave me a steroid and that is when it started. It went away when I stopped the steroid. It was really an annoying feeling. I kept trying to drink water to get rid of it and nothing helped!

is neccessary during detox. Your symptoms could be detox . In any detox cleansing therapy, they generally work on lymphtic drainage. I have yet to get the work done. I believe I first read about it here, but have since checked it out. You can search the posts for sore throat/detox/, a massage therapist told how to work on yourself. I have had glandular swelling, lumps in the throat, much difficulty swallowing or talking, soreness all the way to the collar bone; not all at the same time, but mixed symptoms at least three times, since going raw. It was scary the first time, but it went away as quickly and oddly as it started, and I don't get concerned now. I hope that is all it is, and you are able to learn more about it, and help yourself.

After considering all these replies, I feel it would only be fair to forward an article I was recently sent. Just to balance things out...not to freak anyone out. But we should be aware.
Take care, and be aware.

Thank you all for the info! It seems to have gone away today, but it seems that lymphatic drainage is the most likely cause. This started after I got my first colonic (I had 2 this week), and i was informed that after the colon starts to cleanse, then the liver does as well as the lymph system. I think I may be detoxing very quickly...

I appreciate all of the replies and will keep watch on this. I'm just glad this isn't an uncommon symptom. I was scared because I've never had this before and thought maybe I was choking on something.

Now what i'm left with feels like a click in my throat when i swallow.
Kind of like it's a bone in the way or something, it goes and comes and it is bothering me at times.
Also sometimes my throat seems to get wide and then close like normal, it's very strange.
