My daughter called me today needing help because her 2 year old has been wheezing, coughing, extremely itchy eyes, and is in misery. She does not know what the problem is. This has been going on for a few months. He drinks green smoothies every morning and eats well. Does this sound like a food allergy, or an enviromental type allergy? They do have a dog in the house but the dog's been there for years. I just don't know how to help her. Has anyone got any ideas on how to figure this out? She doesn't want to take him to a M.D. if at all possible, cause they will want to put him on all kinds of medicines. But, she may have to pretty soon, as it seems to be getting no better. Thanks to anyone who can help us.

it sounds like an environmental allergy, but i'm no expert. what about taking him to an M.D. just for the tests to find out what he's allergic to? yes, they will want to put him on all kinds of crap, but they can't force you to comply!

We would need to know more about what he eats. Food allergies can develope suddenly even though the child has been eating the same things.
My daughter developed an allergy to strwberries at age 7.
Let us know about his diet. Although it does sound environmental.

He eats a standard american diet ... except he doesn't drink milk...(which I convinced his mom & dad not to give him, and I also got the whole family drinking green smoothies daily.

Could it be your heat or maybe I should say your heating/air ducts? My son is 6 and only this winter has he started to cough and have a difficult time sleeeping when the heat came on. This is the only house he has lived in so we figure it was our air ducts/vents. We had our air ducts/vents cleaned so will see. Dust seems to be a problem for m y son too. Perhaps its a mold???
Just some thing to think about.
