any tips would be appreciated, I've never really made any dressing recipes before, don't want to start without knowing what I'm doing...
things I need to know:
what to keep them in?
how long to keep them?
how to tell when they've gone bad?
good substitute for Hidden Valley?

any help would be much appreciated!

It depends on what's in them. My dressings will last about a week before I "feel" they are on their last leg but usually, it's gone before the week's out because we have salads daily. But ingredients like apple cider vinegar and/or lemon juice helps to preserve dressings a bit longer. But again, I wouldn't go beyond a week but you can tell if they're bad just by how they smell, taking a little dab on the finger and tasting for rancidity or sourness.

I keep mine in empty agave nectar containers that I wash and save or you can store them in empty, washed nut butter jars or mason jars especially if you don't like using/reusing plastic as in the agave containers.

I have been trying to figure out a good 'squirty' container for dressings, totally never even thought of an old agave bottle! It's perfect!

I love the tip on using Agave bottle....THANKS!!! Judith

Sometimes for my dressing I'll just sprinkle a little ACV over my salad and then some agave, a sprinkle of salt or Mrs. Dash and sometimes a squeeze of lime.

I made a wonderful dressing this morning, it's asian-ish and i am not sure if I have seen the recipe somewhere, so I ain't going to take credit for it:D

It was (no measurements, just what I thought looked good)

fresh orange juice
a few drops dark sesame oil
Bragg's
powdered Jamaican ginger

served over spinach and sliced almonds....YUM:)

you HAVE to try Snowdrop's Ranch dressing!!! It is unbelievable!!! (I posted about it earlier today someplace else on this site.) It hardly took any time to make it and it is absolutely delicious!!! I was eating it by the spoonful and finding everything I could to dip into it!! (It is kind of the consistency of a vegetable dip, a little thick, but just the way I like it!!) The only thing I did different is I didn't use the garlic as I thought the garlic powder would be enough, and it was perfect!!! This is the first attempt I have made at making a dressing, and I am so impressed!!!! (And it was so easy!!) The recipe made about 3/4 of a quart-sized glass canning jar. Of course, I'm keeping it refrigerated, but I don't think it will last very long around here!!! Ironically, I made it for a pot luck tonight, but I'm gonna be selfish and not share it!!! I also made broccoli soup, which we were not very impressed with, so I'm taking that to the pot luck instead, so it won't go to waste!!! I hope you make it and enjoy it!!!:)

My favorite dressing right now is:

Olive oil
Lime or Lemon juice
onion and garlic powder
Italian herbs
Apple cider vinegar
Sea Salt
Black pepper or Cayenne (or both) :)

Blend it or just mix it by hand. Sure makes my mouth happy!
