how ground up do flax seeds need to be in order for our bodies to benefit from them? To save time, I just throw them into the blender when making my smoothie. While the get broken up, the flax has a "mealish" consistency rather than a flour consistency (ie, fine). Is this ok? Or does flax need to be super fine?
thanks! :)

I would assume that as long as the seed is broken it should become digestible. Don't forget flax goes rancid quickly once ground.

^ do you know how long before flax seeds go rancid? I usually take 3-4 hours to drink my smoothie - surely they don't go bad that quickly?

I think 3 or 4 hours should be OK. This is my opinion.

I put my seeds in a little electric coffee grinder and it seems to do the trick.

I grind mine in the coffee grinder and store it in the fridge.
