View Full Version : Hair loss - which sea veggies?

Hi, I just started the whole raw thing recently but have noticed slow hairloss which matches up with male pattern hair loss. I have read around the boards a good bit on the subject and I think I'll try adding some stuff to my smoothies in the morning - sea veggies, ground flax and possibly msm.

My question - what type of sea veggies should I get? Can I just get some dulse flakes and throw 1tbsp in with my smoothies each morning?

If anyone has any other ideas I'd love to hear them :).

Thanks!

i worked in a supplements store for a while and heard of men using liquid chlorophyll to stop hair loss... i don't know too much about it or the science behind it though.

I don't know about the seaweeds, but I notice my hair thickens with wheatgrass juice. Perhaps Add some of that and make sure you're eating enough leafy greens as well. :)

I would use wheatgrass but I don't have a juicer and don't really want to throw that much money down yet on a wheatgrass juicer.

I've heard black sesame seeds are good for the hair, but that might be stopping greys rather than hair loss...

As for sea veggies, they pretty much all do the trick, you could make raw sushi rolls with nori, throw some wakame or arame in a salad, flavour things with dulse flakes, thicken things with irish moss or try kelp noodles! The possibilities are endless :)

They sell frozen cubes of wheatgrass at wholefoods by the frozen fruit. You could try that. No juicer required.;)

ok:) The manual Healthy Juicer is only about $45 and works very well, that's the only reason that I have one now. So far so good.

My nutritionist recommended to eat 10 nori seaweed sheets a day for my hairloss.
It now grows more than an inch a month.

Thanks for everyone's replies. I did see some frozen wheatgrass juice at my local health store. Does anyone know a good place online to get raw sea veggies?

I just got a couple wheatgrass books from Amazon and I'm going to try that. I think I will go with the heatlhy manual juicer for right now (thanks for the recommendation!).

DONT NEED A JUICER . just fill a blender half or so full of water , then cut up about 150 blades into half inch bits (cut up so dont bind up blade) and blend on high 1 minute . strain . i grow wheayt grass in the cheap plastic dish pans with cheap seed bought at bulk food sore , then blend as mentioned and its all a very cheap and simple process .

Isn't that an awful lot of salt though???

I wish I could stand taste of nori sheets. I don't fill with pate so that is limiting. Any suggestions for nori without the pate or fattening nutty stuff that added unwanted pouinds that are finally leaving me b/c I don't eat many of them now.

Michigan,
I tried growing my own and was unsuccessful.

Thanks.

hi carolg ,

to me it would have to have been the seeds if you had problems growing wheat because every time ive grown it its like a weed , its a very vigorous plant . though i cover my wheat with a quarter inch soil i saw this video where they just press the seeds down into the soil surface without covering with soil and they grow like wild . and that was a proffesional wheat grass grower . so ide bet you got seeds that were heated or old . you could test them by putting some in a little bowl / jar with water for 12 hours , then draining . then rinsing every 12 hours and they should sprout in 3 days . if not seeds bad .

Michigan,
Thanks for helping with wheatgrass. Maybe the seeds were old, but will never know. Can try at later time. The smell is super strong however, but results is what I always go for.

if you have lost a lot of weight quickly (which you probably have), thats probably the reason for your hair loss (not the diet). because 4 years ago, i lost 60 lbs fast on a non-raw diet (vegetarian weight watchers) and i lost a lot of hair. i never gained the weight back but i did gain back the hair. in the meantime, follow everyone else's directions. mostly anyone's hair falls out when they lose lots of weight or are grossly underweight. ever notice how lots of anorexics and models/celebrities have super thin hair? there you go.

don't worry. wheatgrass is supposed to help loads!

When I first became vegan I had hairloss as well. It was quite significant. I'd see it in the shower and on my pillow, lots of hair.

I asked my doctor about this and she said it takes 6 months for the problem to disappear after you've found a suitable solution. And sure enough my hair loss was reduced until around the 6 month marker, it was fine.

At the time I lost a considerable amount of weight in a small time frame. What's great was that I work out and I kept the muscle. I guess my body is used to the vegan diet so once I turned raw I had no hair loss.
