So I just finished reading Dr.Young's pH Miracle book and now I have a question about the raw diet. It seems like most fruits, excluding lemons, limes, grapefruit and some melons, are acidic and he seems to stress that they need to be avoided. With the raw diet and consuming a lot of acidic type foods, is your pH alkaline or acidic? I guess I'm just confused but maybe if you're all raw, your pH balances out but from the book it seems like those type of acidic foods need to be avoided. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Thanks!;)

from this article: http://home.bluegrass.net/~jclark/alkaline_foods.htm

"A food's acid or alkaline forming tendency in the body has nothing to do with the actual pH of the food itself. For example, lemons are very acidic, however the end products they produce after digestion and assimilation are very alkaline so, lemons are alkaline forming in the body. Likewise, meat will test alkaline before digestion, but it leaves very acidic residue in the body so, like nearly all animal products, meat is very acid forming.

Generally, alkaline forming foods include: most fruits, green vegetables, peas, beans, lentils, spices, herbs and seasonings, and seeds and nuts.

Generally, acid forming foods include: meat, fish, poultry, eggs, grains, and legumes."

this link also has a complete listing of where foods fall on the acidic/alkaline forming scale, and most fruits are listed under alkaline forming. in fact the only fruits listed under acid forming are:

Blueberries
Canned or Glazed Fruits
Cranberries
Currants
Plums
Prunes

I think Dr Young was saying to avoid most fruit more for the sugar content than whether it was acid or alkaline. He is really big on not feeding those microforms!

I have read most of his book, too. The thing about the book that freaks me out, is NO Cashews!! He says to avoid all fungus and yeast and microforms, and evidently the way cashews are grown they come into contact with mycotoxins. Cashews are currently a big staple for me, so I haven't committed to his philosophy 100%--though I have to say I think more about avoiding fungus now.

This is true. Staying on a raw diet will balance everything out naturally. That's what homeostasis is all about.
