Hello,
I'm sorry if this has been asked before...
I had some slip ups (been 100% for 5 months up till the holidays..birthdays..grr!)
So i'm back to 100% and we have nice big avocados on sale here..so i got plenty.. and i find myself eating like 3 a day! (and they're big!!!) my goodness- isn't that too much? i usually tell other people: don't worry about fats, just don't be too heavy on un-soaked nuts.. But 3 huge avocados a day? + a smoothie or two and veggies in salads and such..
I'm also trying to lose a couple of pounds i gained during the holiday season and it feels like they're not coming off with this avocado feast!
So... how do i stop this avocado addiction? should i cut down on them or just do whatever it takes to stay 100% including eating so many of them? uuh i just need suppoooort of some kind.. THANK YOU:)

I would do whatever it takes to stay 100% raw...for now. I think that eventually you won't crave as many avocados or as much food. Don't worry about losing the pounds right at the beginning. Create the habit FIRST! Then, as you adjust back to being raw all of the time I do believe that you will naturally change how much you eat. AND you might just lost weight eating 3 avo's a day...others have! Read Philip's blog at lovingraw.com. He ate that many a day and DID lost weight. You will be losing BAD fats from your body AND toxins. Have faith in the process and stay 100% so that the "process" can happen. Raw blessings being sent your way!!!

If you are worried...eat them in conjunction with more greens...as part of a salad...and you should be fine. If you are trying to lose weight, keeping the amount of fats reasonable and measured...is certainly wise...but not worth a great deal of stress. Do what you can.

I'm new to the board (and have posted my hello in the correct forum), and I have to tell you I totally feel you on the avocado thing! I wolf down about three a day! Big ones too... those Haases are phenomenal... I worry about the fat content in them but keep reading that "it's a different kind of fat, don't worry about it"... so I keep on eating them... I loaded up on a bag full of 3 for $1 Bacon Avocadoes today at the farmer's market but will have to wait before they're ripened... drat
But Avocado Madness seems to be part of the Raw transition for many people. I downloaded an interview with a young guy who was seriously obese and switched to Raw, and ate avocadoes like mad too when he started. He eventually pared his consumption down and what I like is he said "my body let me know when it was time to move on from avocadoes". He says his body tells him what it needs and he trusts it. He lost over 200 lbs which is an entire me and then some. I trust my body too - now that it is cleaned out, it seems to know its needs clearly and voice them clearly also - and if it wants avocadoes, then fine, avocadoes it is.
I am also eating lots of Napa cabbage. I wonder what that means?
Just wanted to tell you I am someone else here noticing I seem to need a lot of avocadoes. Just a grotesque amount of them. I am STILL losing weight off my thighs and butt while eating them, and that is completely neat... although weird. I thought these things were fattening... they appear not to be on my thighs and backside, however. And my former diet was.

I totally agree with what the others said. When I first went raw, I ate tons of them and the weight melted off. Then my body didn't need so many of them. It also seems that if I stray off 100% for a while, when I get back on track, I crave more again. I think is our bodies way of gently adjusting. ?

Thanks for your responses, everyone!!!
I just read in Alissa's book how she says she used to eat 2-3 a day and lose weight as well..... i suppose i won't go crazy worrying about this..i just really want to stick to 100% again and sad cravings are still there in my head after all the holidays and birthdays
once again, thanks for everyone's advices!
Scooterboo, i guess we can start an avocado-addict club :D
I'm gonna join you in the avo-addict club, lol. Having a hard time getting any good ones around here lately, but when I can, I eat a ton of them too. One of my favorite easy quick dishes - diced avo, tomato, & onion drizzled w/ olive oil, tiny bit of garlic salt. Great as is; or over a bed of greens for a bigger meal.

I LOVE those lovely creamy dreamy...yum yum avos! :D I eat one a day. Eat what you crave and love as long as it's raw...eventually your body will move on to something else if that is what it needs. If not for now...enjoy!

I LOVE Avocados!! I wish they were cheaper in Cali right now and I would eat more (I eat about 1 every 2 days or so now). Enjoy them while you can get them and eventually your body will let you know when you want less.
Your body must need the healthy fats right now! Just think how amazing your hair and nails will look after you are done with the avocado feast!! :)

Avocados are my favorite food on the planet! LOVE THEM. When I started eating raw foods, I had 3-4 avos or more daily and that's not including the gaucamole I would have every day. ha. I never felt better and lost fat around my waist. I now have about 3-4 per week. Enjoy them, they are a sun food full of such vibrant life. No wonder they make us feel so good! And they do not contain the fat that aggravates the cells/systems and creates fat stores. It's the good stuff that your body needs. If we didn't have fat on our bodies, we'd look like dehydrated prunes. lol.

Hi Riiiya, I love avocados as well, and do eat 2-3 per day when I can get them. I was not able to get them for awhile, and my weightloss actually slowed. I started losing again when I started eating them again.
The avos you describe sound delish--may be worth the gas to drive up north to get some from your area!

My raw food instructor (been raw for several years and is a raw food chef) says if you want to lose weight eat the avocados because it has some sort of fat enzyme that helps break down the bad fat in your body. (I'm not an expert...that's just what she "the expert" said). She claims to have eaten 10 a day and not gained a pound. I am constantly eating them and am amazed that the scale keeps dropping.
Oh I could not live without my lovely avocados :D Bought 8 yesterday, they were 2 for a 1$. Thats a deal for me.

Well I am sooo glad that I came across this thread. I vacationed in mexico last month and in order to stay raw I ate more guacamole than I want to admit...it was an impressive amount! Since coming home I cannot stop eating avocados... about 1 to 3 a day, sometimes with olive oil when they are mixed in with salad. I was so concerned about all the fat and calories... indeed I HAVE gained weight, which shocked me! I kept telling myself that it's okay to eat the avocados so long as I am 100% raw (which I have been since november). So I can't stand the fact that I am the only one so far who has indulged in these delish and nutritous avocados without gaining lbs. But you know, I just love them and will probably continue to eat them until my body says "no more, please". :)

Laurelina! your post uplifts me! lol.... i myself think that it's not the avocados that have been keeping the weight, but the occasional SAD treat >:( wow, one cooked piece of food and it's SO hard to get back on track, it's like a heavy drug! i think i'll stick to my lovely avocados for sure!!!

biorobotics: before I went raw, I thought they were gross. Then, after eating them in guacamole, I loved them. How are you preparing them? I just about have to have them with seasoning, sea salt is a definite, and then warm spices like cumin, chili powder, even garlic powder......
How are you preparing them, and when you eat them are you sure they are ripe. When they are hard (not ripe) they are NOT good.
Also, you may want to try an avo recipe for chocolate pudding.
I was just wondering if we could help you LOVE them. After being someone BEFORE who could NOT imagine WHY anyone would want to eat something so tasteless and mushy, it is now my FAVORITE food! :D

I really loved them at first too but it just went away. Now I'll have a little on a salad maybe twice a month and sometimes I feel like the chocolate pudding you make with them but other than that I find that I tend to like them seasonally like you can hardly waite for strawberries to come on in the spring. Give it some time....it will work itself out. Judith

I cannot live without avos on raw. This time around, when I start back eating again (I am on a juice fast after finishing up a 30 day MC) I intend on relying on them and coconuts as my main sources of fat (and cutting down on the evoo and other oils/nuts).
I noticed that my skin and hair are less dry when I consume fats when I am high raw.
Like anything else, I found that I LOVED LOVED THEM in the beginning of my raw journey, then barely ate them the longer I was raw. Of course, I still used nuts, so maybe I was getting my fat needs met from them at the time I lost my avo appetite.
They are soooo good though. I craved them intermittently during my master cleanse. Thank goodness the teeny ones (sigh) I just bought this week are still hard as a rock or I'd be breaking my juice fast.
:D
