Hello to everyone. I'm Heather, and I've been a lurker here since December. I started Raw Foods in October of 2007 but was only about 50% Raw then. I am now proudly 95% Raw. I found out about Raw Foods by accident, by just gradually removing things from my diet until I ended up at raw fruits and vegetables. I started off eating cooked foods including meats, as a girl, but first gave up meat and then meat and seafood meats when I became vegetarian several years ago. Letting go of sushi took time :D I have always suffered a fragile, irritable stomach and digestive tract, and cooked foods caused me pain as well as brain fog. I let go of dairy foods after learning I was allergic to them - oh the stomach pains from that one - and I thought maybe I was lactose intolerant, but a visit to a gastroenterologist and several tests proved it to be an allergy. Goodbye to cheese pizzas :(
So then I was vegan and thought my stomach would be happy. I was wrong. I ate nothing but steamed veggies and rice, and my digestive parts still went berserk whenever I ate anything. The pain was indescribable. I tried Raw Foods after hearing about the film "Supercharge Me", and decided to give it a try to see if raw food would ease my stomach. It did! Then December of last year I got weak and ate cooked food again. Near Christmas, I had my worst stomach attack ever as a result. It put me in the hospital, where all sorts of CT scans and tests were done to me. The specialist I was assigned, a kind fellow named Dr. Ming, asked me if I had ever experienced a calm tummy. I said yes - while eating Raw Foods. The doctor enthusiastically urged me, "Well then go back to that!"
I did. I have now been about 95%-100% Raw, drifting back and forth on it, since New Year's Day. It will be nice to lose weight, but I am in this for the enzymes. I chase them like Pokemons - got to catch 'em all! I like how calm my stomach has been since the change. I LOVE the boost in daily energy. I like having calm dreams at night and sleeping really well. Most of all it is so great no longer forgetting simple things like phone numbers, street addresses, etc., the way I used to back in the "carbohydrates fog". It is hard to believe I do not eat processed packaged cooked foods anymore! I gorge on tomatoes and avocados and fresh corn all day. My body loves it.
I wanted to say hi to you all, I am on your journey with you... this was long and I apologize for that... thank you everyone who reads this... hello :o
