I rarely look at the prices of things I buy at the grocery store, but since I'm really in debt now, I started looking.
To my amazement oranges and apples are the same price in organic or not! Some non organic varieties are also significantly more expensive than organic!
How come these organic foods cost the same or less than their conventional version? I don't get it!

i know, i don't get it either. before my town got a new grocery store in, at the other grocery stores organic was more expensive. but at this new one most of the organic is cheaper. not the fruits, but 9 out of 10 veggies are. they even sell regular stuff too and the regular stuff is more expensive. kind of glad in a way though cause that just means that we can get better quality stuff for less. i'm assuming it could be so people start supporting and buying more organics. it's definitely a smart plan they got going on.

Where do you shop, so I can go shop there, too!! Everywhere I shop organic is usually significantly more costly than conventional.
Look at the country of origin. Importing versus local produce makes a huge difference in price, too. Sometimes where they come from is more indicative of price than organic or not. But count yourself lucky to have found cheaper organic!

i live in tennessee, and was so happy when i saw those prices. i thought i was reading the sign wrong or something. then i thought it was a misprint, but nope they (for the most part) continue to be cheaper. the name of the place is the season's harvest market. they're so nice and clean and really well stocked. i feel so lucky:D

yeah, ive noticed that too recently, especially with fruits like apples and pears. honestly though, i dont think its becuase the organic prices have gone down as much as it is that the conventional prices have gone up, like everything else, becuase of the price of gas...funny though, i havent noticed the organic prices going up, just the conventional ones. so now its like "why bother buying the cheaper conventional when its only 10 or 20 cents cheaper per pound!" might as well get the organic; not really saving money anymore by getting conventional :)
