I am not about to turn away from going raw- I know this is right DESPITE the fact my body is having trouble adjusting. I'm relatively new to this, but as I ate a conventionally healthy diet before, making the switch to mostly raw has been easy in terms of knowing what to eat, how to shop etc. I love all the fresh fruit, veggies, and raw nuts. Juice fresh from my juicer rocks... So why if it is so inspiring and yummy does my stomach feel unsettled after? Not exactly naseaus; more like irritated. Overwhelmed.

I'm not having any of the detox symptoms I've been hearing about- not yet anyway- but I know I am new to this.

Did any of you experience this at the very beginning? I'll eat a raw meal- beautiful, appealing food- and feel satisfied at first, and an hour later my stomach is cranky. And I'm craving really STARCHY stuff. Disgusting stuff, I never would have craved before. Mac and cheese, white bread, etc. It's not a sugar thing- I have agave, raw honey, dark chocolate, etc. And it's not fat, cause I've tried eating a few raw nuts.

This does not feel good. Ideas?

Thanks... hanging in there. Made a great raw superbowl feast today.

The starchy cravings are just a symptom of detox and they will pass as long as you don't invest too much energy and attention on them.

Your stomach issues should clear up, too. Eat simply, and have some fresh ginger juice.

I hope you feel better soon! Don't give up!

Made a great raw superbowl feast today.

How's your stomach feel after that?

My guess is, too many foods mixed together eaten too quickly.

Try this... eat one food at a time (even at the same meal), take time to sit, savor and chew. Let us know how that works please.

I feel exactly the same way. I go off and on a lot and I notice that after 1-3 weeks on raw that uncomfortable feeling disappears. So I think it takes a while to adjust, but also as Revvel said try to eat simple, learn about food combining.
Relax as well after the meals. And try to eat well blended things like soups and porridge made of sprouted buckwheat+banana. Most of us donīt chew enough.

Another aspect of it, it can be the feeling of the stomach cleaning itself.

When I have this problem I try to eat simple and try out what the stomach likes and not. I do well with avocados, juices and buckwheat, so find out what is right for you. I think this is a way to start, and then after a while that feeling will go away and you can , if you want, start to have more complicated meals.

Good luck!

Some people need to transition over slowly. Not everyone's tummy is the same. If you find that your stomach won't behave, try having some lightly steamed non-starchy veggies with your raw until you stomach feels better and then try phasing out the steamed veggies. See if that helps.
I am not discouraging you to go away from raw but rather to make it an easier experience that you won't want to leave because of stomach issues.
Watch your food combinations too. That may be your problem.
