I want to make some warm miso soup. First of all - I've never bought miso before until today. At the store they had several kinds to choose from... mellow white miso, brown miso, red miso, barley miso. (the brand is Miso Master Organic). I thought I'd buy the mellow white miso and try that. For those of you who have had miso many times before, what is the best kind to make soup from??

yes, i like white miso too.

miso makes so many things yum, such as veggie soups and salad dressings too.

for miso soup just mix with warm water.

you could add veggies, probably very thinly sliced like carrots, scallions. otherwise dehydrated veggies so they d be like the cooked vegges of soup

You can make miso soup with whichever miso you like. Look for the label that says that it's unpasteurized....you may have to rely on your health food store for that. My Japanese friend seems to approve the use of a variety of miso types for soup-making, so my guess is it's ok : )

I use mellow white unpasteurized miso, and actually just made soup a few days ago, and it was delicious! I tend to use about 1/2 tbs. of miso per 1 cup warm water, and it seems to taste really good. I marinate some cremini mushrooms in lemon juice for about an hour, and then make the miso soup. I actually got the recipe from The Daily Raw Cafe (http://www.thedailyrawcafe.com/search?q=miso) Enjoy!

Sounds delicious : ) They used to sell hemp miso (raw) at the health food store here, but I have not seen it in ages...makes me sad :(

1 Tbsp white miso
12 oz very warm water
1/4 cup fresh carrot/celery juice
1/4 inch round of grated ginger
tiny clove grated garlic

We loved it! Good luck with yours, let us know what you come up with.

I made my first bowl of miso soup for lunch today. 1-1/2 cups of very warm water, 2 teaspoons of miso, 1/2 carrot sliced super thin, 1 tsp of ginger sliced super thin. It was delicious. Just what I wanted, a very light soup. Thanks for all the great tips.

MMMH!
All of these sound so delicious. I will be making myself some miso soup today!

For those of you traveling: Miso is excellent for anti-radiation. I try to eat miso as much as I can when I come back from work.

I love miso soup. I make the Miso soup from Raw Food Made Easy for 1 or 2 people by Jennifer Cornbleet and it is sooo good!!
