ok i saw purple, orange and green cauliflower at the grocery store this morning  i don't even know if it was food coloring or if it is naturally that color. i couldn't find anyone to ask and the cashier hadn't a clue (go figure). so i thought i'd throw this out here and see what everyone here thought. or if you know anything about it or even seen it for that matter. i just don't see how that could be natural, at least not the purple and orange, the green i think could be immature cauliflower or something. but i don't know:confused: and this is from an all natural grocery store and mostly all organic stuff. well thanks for any info, it's much appreciated

I read they are actually Heirloom and not GMO. Just like the purple carrots.

I saw the green and purple in a seed catalog and it was listed as heirloom. I can't say about the orange, though.

They're natural and delicious! Try Googling "cauliflower" and go to the wikipedia site that comes up. I had the same questions about food coloring. It turns out, there are different antioxidants in the colored ones than the white cauliflower that make them different colors! :D

Aren't they the prettiest things?! :) I kinda freaked when I discovered them for the first time, and same here - no one knew what to answer when asked. I'm not sure if I was just over zealous about the neato colors, but I thought they tasted even better than more common type.

i got the purple ones at an organic farmers market in rome. absolutely beautiful, huh?

hey--that reminds me... ya know all the colored kale and cabbage that you see as landscaping around the northern cities in the winter cuz its cold-tolerant? its like green outer leaves and pink or purple in the center leaves? i wonder if you could get organic or at least non-gmo seed and grow it organically, for that stuff? that would be fun and pretty to eat :) i love beautiful food. adds to the enjoyment :) anyone know?
