Hey everybody,
I want to start growing some of my own veggies and I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions. I live in Oregon in an apartment with two balconies so I have to do it in pots.....What are some of the things that maybe you guys had sucess with...I am starting early in my research on this since last year it didn't occur to me until the fall!!!! Also if anyone knows of any winter veggies and fruit that can withstand NW winters....or any books?
All help is appreciated!!!!
Brightest Blessings and many thanks to all!!!

Loose leaf spinach doesn't have deep roots so it is good for container gardening. If it is in a sheltered area of your balconey, it should be able to withstand the winter.

Not sure if you're into this or not but wheatgrass grows great on the countertop. We just love it in our smoothies! :D

I never thought of putting it in my smoothies.....so do you just throw in the whole blade or do you juice it and then put it in. How much approximately do you put in? Thanks for the idea! Judith

I'm from Oregon, we moved to Tennessee Feb 2007. How's the weather there? Is it still raining or has it snowed recently? How about growing herbs inside in pretty flower pots or terra cotta pots.

It has done everything from rain to snow for about 2 weeks now......It has been pretty bad in the cascades...had to cancel a trip to Bend because of it....But it is starting to clear up a little!!!! Can't wait til summer!!!!

Not sure how any of this would fair in your climate, but , my neighbor grows cucumbers and peas on a trellis in 5 gallon buckets(drill some holes in the bottom for drainage), squash in a pot and of course herbs in pots.
I'm in the process of building three veggie beds in my back yard. I plan on using trellis for the cucumbers, cantelope and peas.
Good luck, make sure and take pictures once you decided on what your plan is.

I have a small window garden started. I planted Tiny Tim Tomatoes, Sweet Peppers, Chives, Parsley, Basil, Mint, Oregano and a lettuce mix. Oh and strawberry seeds. Boy are they small! I hope I got them all in the pretty pot they came in. (It was a kit.) You can barely see Strawberry seeds. Now, it will be fun to see if they all actually grow. :)

Try pear tomatoes....they are about the size of grape tomatoes but shaped like a pear. They can be red or yellow and devine.
