as you might know, i am writing a recipe book
teaching classes, coaching & helping people with the raw lifestyle.
i am trying to have it at least pay for itself, and maybe turn a little profit.

this is my first time trying to start a business
i am trying to get my act together here and
come up with a biz name & start a website
that will link to my teacher page at alissa's.
this way i can have paying customers to get the
book published, which also takes dollars.

so my first step was to find a name (i did)
see if it is available (it is)
now to register it.... should i go with something like godaddy.com?
i am unfamiliar with all the features
so if you have any knowledge please, oh please,
share with me.

once i have registered a name i suppose i need to find a place to host the site.

i have dreamweaver & a book (website in 1 hr) to build the page...

then make connections ... web-ring??

i have much to do and want to do it well (and inexpensively)

any help whatsoever will be so appreciated by me. (and ultimately
anyone else reading this wanting to start their own biz too.)

thanks in advance

Hi - I am a I.T. admin by profession (and hobby) and can help guide you.

I do not like godaddy. They sell domains at the cheapest prices, but a lot of the IP addresses they use (IE: 0.0.0.0) are blacklisted which means there is a chance (depending on who / how the IP address was used before) that you could get a lot of spam hits to your website, phishing attacks, and spam emails if you setup an email address with your domain. I am not saying that will happen, but it has happened. My opionion is shared by many geeks like me... someone who just designs websites might disagree with what I say here but its because they dont understand the workings of the servers in the background.

I would reccomend you go to someone like www.2advanced.net or www.mediatemple.com and register your domain there. They can also take care of the hosting for you at good rates.

For everything ELSE (web design) your book will teach you the basics and you can build a website like http://www.debian.org/ in just a short time. If you want something more graphical and functional like alissas site per say then it will take you considerably longer to learn. It all depends on what you want your website to do.

I am willing to help you - let me know.

Personally, I wouldn't pay that much for webhosting. Here's my suggestion... go to: http://mypodcastexpert.com/.... scroll down to the bottom right hand corner. We pay $7.95 per month for everything I have. That means all my podcasts, my site builder, my mailing lists, auto responders, streaming audio and video, etc. We transferred everything from GoDaddy once they ran out of bandwidth for my podcasts.

I was paying Payloadz to get my ebooks out. Now it's included in the $7.95 monthly fee.

I was paying Constant Contact to send out blasts. It's included in the $7.95 monthly fee.

Check 'em out.
