I haven't heard of the recipe you mentioned, but you could probably scroll to the top of the page and click on the banana (search) feature.

We had a happy accident a few months ago...

Scooped out a baby pumpkin and had a bunch of seeds.
So I washed off all the slime & goop and patted them dry. Then lightly drizzled with a little olive oil, ceyanne, salt, pepper, and garlic powder tossed to coat, and put them in to dehydrate on the mesh tray.

I'm not sure how long we dehydrated, but when we tried them, my dh and I looked at each other and laughed and said "popcorn" because it had the same crunch, and flavor...and it was warm.

So now when we are going to have movie night...we have "POPCORN"

Hi Everyone - new to this part of site. Wondering if anyone has recipe for the carob/almond butter/date balls Alissa had listed on the site a couple of months ago. I know it's in the cookbook, which I don't have yet. I'd sure appreciate it.

beppa66: You don't mention shelling the pumpkin seeds, are the seasoned, dehydrated and consumed with the shell??

Thanks...right back atcha!!!

PS. We didn't shell the pumpkin seeds. But they came from a tiny little pumpkin. They were super crunchy!!! (& Be sure to add lots of salt if you like salted popcorn).

I have tried a recipe with dehydrated cauliflower and it came out ok...but I prefer pumpkin seeds like Beppa said! My favourite popcorn alternative, though, is sprouted then seasoned and dehydrated buckwheat. It works best if you make a sweet recipe with agave or honey so they stick together in little clusters! I sprout my buckwheat and dehydrate it a bit, then I mix it with some agave, cinnamon, vanilla and a pinch of sea salt and dehydrate it until crunchy. Mmm.

(Adjust these recipes if needed to make it raw.) :)

Raw Popcorn by Alex Malinsky
"One of my new raw food recipes, texture and taste just like real popcorn"

2 cups cauliflower (broken up like popcorn)
1 tsp. or more Sea salt
3 shakes Dulse flakes

Combine everything together in a large bowl and let marinate for 2 hrs.

"Butter topping"

1/2 cup cashew or almond butter
2 tbs. lemon juice
1/2 cup water
1 tbs. agave nectar
Sea salt to taste

Mix this "butter topping" with the "popcorn" and lay out these pieces on teflex sheets ready to be dehydrated. Dehydrate this mixture at 115 degrees F. for at least 8 hrs. or until soft.

Note: The cauliflower will be nice and soft but still have a crunchy texture. Enjoy!

Green Popcorn - A Lovingraw Original

Ingredients:

Cauliflower (1 whole chopped in popcorn size pieces)
Nutritional Yeast (a whole lot, just pour it in, maybe 4-8 heaping teaspoons)
Sea Salt (1 teaspoon or more)
Black Pepper (just shake it on)
Spirulina (make it green, 3 tablespoons, 5 if your hard core)
Olive Oil (2 teaspoons)
Water (just a splash)

How To:

Put it all in a gallon size zip lock bag and shake until your arms hurt. You can make it cheesier by adding more yeast, greener by adding more spirulina, and sticky by adding raw honey (only do that if you are going to dehydrate).

You can eat it as-is, which I usually do, or you can dehydrate it overnight and it will shrink up into yummy little crunchy pieces.

Cauliflower Poppers

Easily as good as French fries!
Ingredients

* 1 head of cauliflower
* 1 lemon, juiced
* 3 cloves of garlic, minced
* 2 teaspoons dijon mustard
* 1 tablespoon olive oil
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 1 teaspoon dill, dried
* 1 sprinkle fresh black pepper
* 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
* 1 teaspoon dill, dried

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 400, and separate the cauliflower into bite-sized florets.

Whisk together the remaining ingredients and toss with the cauliflower, then bake for 40 minutes, stirring once about halfway through the cooking time.

They’re ready when they get nicely browned and they’re tender but not mushy.

I don't know if anyone has yet mentioned spiced nuts?

I like to get a handful of cashews, spray with olive oil then toss with cayanee pepper (sp?) and salt. Somettimes I'll add some nutritional yeast flakes, too.

This is really yummie.

If ever she doesn't like any raw "popcorns", at least try to make it air pop (least unhealthy) or in a closed pot with oil in the bottom. The microwave one has artificial chemicals for flavor which are very dangerous and known to cause lung disease, cancer and more.

Alissa has a TERRIFIC receipe in her book for Potato Chips...maybe that'll help, as an alternative! I made them when I first got the book...they're really good!!! Try them! You'll like them!!!

Oh my, I can't believe there isn't a buckwheat recipe in here!

These are going to be approximations because I made this up and always eyeball it. It comes out really well every time:

-2-3 cups sprouted buckwheat (make sure it receives a final rinse!)
-1/8 cup olive oil
-garlic powder
-salt to taste

Mix it up really well. Spread it out on the dehydrator sheets (no Teflex), dehydrate for 4-10 hours at 105 -- however long it takes to get crispy.

It tastes salty and buttery and crunchy, mmmmm good. It's also good to put on a salad for the crunch like croutons, and it's filling but not high fat and is not a grain. :)

Here is info from some people who grow buckwheat: http://www.thebirkettmills.com/nutrition_2005.htm

It's a fruit and is misclassified all the time. I only started looking into it because I was running a LOT and was looking for more filling food to satisfy me without gorging myself on avocados and coconut oil. I was very hungry but not craving a ton of fat.

The cool thing is -- for people who are hungry often and not craving fat, this is GREAT and crunchy. And the easiest of all of the sprouts. You can get away with soaking it for half an hour, rinsing it a few times, and BAM, you're done! :)
