Hey Rawbies!
Well, we're coming up on a new month...who's game to make December ALL RAW?
This is your official sign-up sheet...signing up is simply saying, "Hey, I'm in!!" right here in this thread and then once Dec. 1st hits...start eatin' all raw foods! As a reminder to those who've done these before and an FYI to those new to these challenges...we do NOT post our cooked food slip-ups in the challenge threads. It's fine to mention it in your blog/journal or create a thread in the Raw and Living Food Discussion area if you need help overcoming something, etc. but please keep the challenge threads focused solely on your raw eating. Thanks!
So now, who's gonna join us?

Hi Rawkinlocs,
thank you for starting this challenge.
Signing in!
I've been 100% for a week now, and I want to keep it like that.
What motivates me to sign up on this challenge is "we do NOT post our cooked food slip-ups in the challenge threads". I was reading before thanksgiving other threats where almost all the members planned to cheat on thanksgiving and that was ok. I guess was ok for them and I don't condemn anybody, but I really need a 100% raw support group. I want to commit and find people with experience in the road.
Good luck to everybody!

Hi all!
I sign up as well! Yaaaay!!
Up to now I've only been an invisible, silent reader of this forum (just registered and wrote a short introduction post), but now I take the next step... and take the challenge!!! :D
I hope my family will support this when I visit them for Christmas (I'm an erasmus student in the UK for this academic year)...
I just wanted to ask, what is considered "100%" raw by the Challenge. I mean, apart from the obvious things, what about hot herbal tea, unroasted nori, "raw" agave (sorry, I do not have Alissa's book) etc...?
Love,
Eevie

I am looking forward to the 30 challenge! What a fantastic way to see Christmas and the New Year in. When others are over indulging we can come out the other end feeling healthy with 'energy in abudance'.
This is also a great opportunity to support and motivate each other during a time in the year which is perhpas one of the most challenging. So I raise my green smoothie glass to you all say 'cheers!'

I'm in. I will be 100% raw on Dec 1. I began the journey on October 1 with a 30-day master cleanse. I am feeling great and looking forward to the journey. My only concern is preparing Christmas dinner/spread. I muddled through thanksgiving, but I have do better for Christmas. So, I will definitely be hoovering around this site to looking for simple holiday raw recipes to add to the recipes I'm using from Alissa's book.

just a quick question about the raw food bunny thing...
I don't understand??? what do wild bunnies do to get vitamin pellets and hay??? (and I'm sorry I really don't know -- but...) isn't hay raw?? don't bunnies in the wild eat - raw seeds, and grains, and grass, veggies and whatever else rabbits eat???
A few other rawbies on this forum have rats - and I had rats when I was younger. One person wrote that they were trying to 'transition' their rats to a mostly raw diet... that actually surprised me... cuz -- well ... I thought rats were raw eaters... like bunnies... anyway - that's what I fed my rats and mice... raw grains, veggies, fruit, (oh I did give them occasional treats of bread and cheese...)...
just wondering... maybe bunnies in captivity are different than wild ones?
btw... your babies are very VERY cute!!!

Good morning everyone! I am so happy to start this December challenge with everyone!! Today will be extra busy. Some people (including me) from my church are going to Charlotte to pack away, and send boxes overseas for Samaritans Purse...you know the shoe boxes stuffed with Christmas Presents???!!! I am so excited to help do this. We can take our own lunch, so I am prepared with: an apple, banana, 3 raw bars and I will buy some water while I'm there.
Tonight we are going to a local "all you can eat bar" and I know I can get a salad. So there's my day.
Ya'll have a blessed first day of the challenge.

I haven't started eating yet, but I'm about to make myself a mango-banana-spinach smoothie. Yummmmy!
After the smoothie, I'm walking to the nearest health food store to see what sort of raw staples I can get. I can't get too many since the store is 2 miles away, and I'm walking home with whatever I buy. I'm hoping to find some raw nuts there, and I can get my organic produce at the regular grocery store.
Yay for grocery day, eh?
Happy December, everyone!

Good questions, i wondered exactly the same thing!
I had mice as a kid and just fed them fruit and veggies and they lived long and were fine. But as we rescued all our bunnies, they have a few health problems so we took them to the vet right away
Anyway when asked about diet he really insisted we needed his pet pellets because fruit, seeds etc will not give them all they need. I did find it very odd at the time but he said just raw food (i was thinking i could pick grass for them etc) would make them ill, which worried us lots. But now ive discovered more about raw...now ive got into that frame of thinking a lot more, you know what, i think he just wants our money. Of course bunnies eat grass, fruit, seeds and veggies, theyre BUNNIES! And reading the back of the pellet packet, its just ash with added vitamins like vitmain K, which im sure is in leafy greens aswell, probably a better source
As for hay, im not sure if its raw. I dont know if they just dry the grass or they heat it to get it like that, but well carry on giving them that as it does help their teeth. Otherwise, i think we have a raw "transition" on our hands ourselves!
Thank you lots! Its really obvious. I guess we were just talked round, we love them like children and always worry because their health isnt at its best anyway. But maybe raw will help them heal!
Hehe they were babies in that photo but now Joey, the brown one, is massive, yet Faes remained the same size as she is a dwarf bunny and hes a giant. Theyre a funny couple:)
Thanx again!

What a wonderful start into advent time :)
I already did my Tibetans and meditation, had an apple, a banana and a handful of soaked walnuts for breakfast and went for my weekly huge (food-)shopping trip :D
For lunch I had a big salad with tomatoe, sweet pepper, carrots, arame, hempseeds and two creamy dips (green-avocado and bright sunny orange-butternut)...
And right now I'm listening to rawsummit :)
Wooohoo.....
Love, light and laughter for everybody,

This is a wonderful. I am feeling so at peace starting this monthly challenge. It will fly by and before you know it we'll all be signing up for January.I will remember to breathe and be thankful each day.
I have cleaned my house, have a shopping list to complete what I was able to get yesterday and am about to have a green smoothie w/banana, pomegranate and spinach. I have pulled a list of recipes and I haven't decided which I will do later. Probably a salad for lunch or fruit as I will be on the go.
Yeah for Day #1 ~

Good morning all. Great start to the day, but somehow I'm just not hungry yet so will wait and make a gs before I leave for the farmers' market and then to work.
Have decided to start writing out a weekly menu idea list so more variety will be added (and hopefully adding some new favorites) into my diet. Have so many of the raw recipe books which I adore reading but don't often get around to really trying a lot of the recipes. Guess I adore so many of Alissa's recipes so much I just haven't branched out as much lately.
Well, did a trip to the Asian market Thursday and got lots of goodies--rice sheets for spring rolls, a case of 9 young coconuts on sale for $6.99 (wow), lemongrass, really fresh mint and a frozen durian. Have thawed and removed the flesh from the durian and need to look for a recipe to now use it up. Thought I had seen one for ice cream, but got tired and gave up searching last night.
Anyhow, made Alissa's Spicy Green Lime Cilantro Soup for dinner last night--it is very very good if you haven't tried it yet.
Great to be here starting a fresh new month with increased vigor. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

I can't believe it's already December! This year went by so fast! I just got up about a half hour ago. I'm not really hungry yet. I had a large glass of water. I plan to make a green smoothie using spinach, banana, and frozen mango. My husband and I went shopping last night, so I stocked up on organic yummies, fruit and veggies, etc.
Not sure what I want for lunch later, but the refrigerator is well stocked, so it should be easy to have a great lunch.
I work the 12 hour night shift tonight, so I plan to take a large thermos of GS, fruit and nuts. Sometimes it's hard to find time to eat, plus I have monthly summaries to catch up on. We are sooo behind. UGH! I plan to take this challenge one day, one hour, one minute at a time.
Have a good day!

Good morning! I'm sipping my green smoothie as i type. This is my 4th morning of drinking green smoothies and i'm really starting to enjoy them. So the1st day of our challenge and i decide to host a dinner party!! Cooked food! It's all good, i'm having it catered by local carribean cafe. For myself i'm making stuffed Portebello mushrooms, carribean cucumber salad, mangoand avocado salad and for dessert key lime pie. Oh and i have some plantain chips dehydrating...It will be great! Now if only i could do somesthing about the coldweather.....-30 degrees celcius! No playing outside today!

So I just got back from the store, and they did not have any raw nuts. Of all the nut butter selection, only one was raw, so I bought that. I did manage to get some cold pressed sunflower oil, raw apple cider vinegar, and some sea salt. I also got some kale (yay!) that I'm eating now with oil, salt, hemp seeds avacado and tomato. I haven't eaten kale since the last time I was doing 100% during the May challenge, and I had no idea I missed it so much!
Like oceanee, I am feeling very at peace with this December challenge. I never felt that way when doing a challenge in the past. I've decided I am a raw foodist. That's all there is to it.
Oh, and while making this salad just now, I realized how normal it felt to be preparing live food. Yippee!

which of course means ... I will be able to start out 2008 as a rawbie and be a rawbie for the full year... this is amazing to me... so exciting!

hello and happy december to everyone! i am very excited to be a part of such a supportive group! i'm really looking forward to seeing the changes in my body & mind as i progress on my raw journey. it's been wonderful so far:)
so far today i had a smoothie w/ 2 bananas, a cup of strawberries, a splash of fresh-squeezed oj, and some frozen mango & blueberries, yum. and i just had a cashew cookie lara bar & a banana for a sort of late lunch. i'm going to go run 4 miles in an hour or so when i digest, and i am really looking forward to it- it's absolutely beautiful out today, and it'll be so nice to work out in the sunshine instead of in the cold & dark like i have to during the week! then i'll do some pilates, have some apples for a snack, and i've got a big salad planned for dinner with kale, baby romaine, tomatoes, red & yellow peppers, carrots, cucs, half an avocado and raw apple cider vinegar.
my goals for this month are to cut out diet snapple- it's free at work and i drink one maybe 3 times a week, but i know the fake stuff (aspartame, eek) is NOT doing my body any favors and is not raw! i also want to decrease my consumption of nuts- it's so easy to grab a handful here & there, but they don't make me feel as good as avos do. i want to eat less lara bars, and replace them with either fruit or 100% raw energy bites- like laras but bite-sized- that i got when i was home in vermont over thanksgiving. they are not as packaged/processed and are made locally, right in my favorite health store, so i feel better about eating them! plus they are less $$. i also want to keep up with my meditation & visualization. i am feeling such great vibes from the universe lately, like i'm in a warm bubble of positivity! i haven't felt this good ever in my life. raw is the best:D
oh and rawdancer_uk, hello! i'm the same "meow" from the raw food support forums or whatever they're called! it's nice to see a familiar face here!
have a great rest of the day, raw foodies!

Happy afternoon to those in the December challenge - it's cold here in Boston too - yikes! Let's see...this morning I had some collard wraps for breakfast with marinated mushrooms stuffed inside (not fond of sweet things for breakfast).
Bought ingredients today for a chocolate fudge cake with coconut cream icing...might even have it for dinner!
Hope all is well - stay warm East Coasters and Canada friends.

how many are too many avocados in one day?
answer = 7
i had six in one day once and on that day it seemed just right! but i'm sure seven would be way too many. :)
day four, and Team Raw December is on fire! the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals and healthy building blocks consumed by these amazing challengers could fuel a small city, but we are keeping it to ourselves instead! GO TEAM!
i am: energetic, vibrant, alive, attuned, congruent, authentic, truthful, relaxed, electric, shimmering and 100% raw
food report: green smoothie for breakfast, in my lunch and snack bag here at work i have an asian pear as big as my head, several clementines, a container of the yummiest little grape tomatoes, some spinach, and an avocado off the tree in my backyard.
and at 1:00 in the morning i made these wonderful little nori crackers spread with a sunflower seeds-walnut-miso-turmeric pate in my cheapie dehydrator and they were so yummy they barely made it out of the dehydrator uneaten. but i think i have two left. make that 1 and 1/2. make that 1.

What are you all putting in those smoothies out there??? Wacky raw fooders on the December challenge!! I cracked up all the way down the pages.
Wendi, I have a good question - I tried to spiralize (a new verb/word for you Mueller) the butternut squash and it got all stuck and chunky. Any tips?
Thanks - and glad to see you are feeling better today. Another low thyroid girl here - we could have a club with a secret handshake...now I'm getting goofy!

couldn't post due to CRAZY weather and 3 days of power outages, but i am raw with ease and loving this challenge. (evie is right, where is the challenge?? we'll have to step it up a notch next month and do 100%-raw-foods-grown-within-100-miles-of-my-house or something difficult!)
giving thanks for the cute little nori crackers i am making in my dehydrator now. will they make it to full dehydration or be snacked into oblivion long before their end time? and clementines and grape tomatoes and green beans and lemons and avocados and apple bananas (apple bananas are the yummiest little bananas, grown here in Hawaii... i think i average about 6 a day... 2 in my green smoothie in the morning, and the rest a la carte or wrapped in a collard green slathered in almond butter. the ultimate raw answer to PB&J!)
go Team Raw December! holding tough at week one... only 3 weeks of fun remaining! big love to y'all!

Yea for day 31 ! This is the longest I have made it and I feel truly on the path.
I know I have to view food totally differently and not succumb to the cooked food addiction. I watched the video "Eating" the other night which supports how I feel and view eating raw. I just have to wipe out the old thoughts as soon as they enter my mind( like old food traditions, smells, etc.).
I will continue RAW and I feel great !!!

Hi All! I am in! I've been interested in going raw for about two years now. Starting and stopping, getting more info, putting it off. You know the drill? But the last few months have been calling me harder and I realized I don't need to live in the future about what this means. I can do raw for a month and that is where I am going to live....just for this month, I will be raw. I can do that! Then I'll see what the next step will be.
Actually, I started today as I went on vacation last Wednesday and returned yesterday. I cleaned out my cupboards and refrigerator just before I left and today I packed up the appliances. Might as well begin!
I have been reading this site for a long time and know how supportive it can be. I look forward to that and hopefully helping others as well.
Happy New Year's!!

Happy New Year! I'm feeling good this morning. Still fasting and excited about the new year! One of the reasons I started eating raw a couple months ago was that I felt I had lost my vitality, and I feel it beginning to return, THAT is motivation! If you are brand new to this lifestyle - you CAN do it, and you will find the support you need here at RFT.
My juices for today will be:
Carrot
Apple/Collard Green/Lemon
Grapefruit
Have a GREAT DAY!

loose weightI know that the only way I can even attempt is because of the support from everyone one this board.

Hi Folks
Can I jump back in, I'll have to restart on 2nd but I still get the full 30 days in January! :D
December didn't go well for me due to crippling migraines followed by a flu type bug which hung around for 2 weeks. I tried to have a gs or at least some fruit every day and I discovered wheatgrass juice which I like!
We now have a juice bar in town which is quite rare in the UK, no raw restaurants and a more limited choice of fruit and veg. I'd love to try collards but we cant buy them here. If I can find some seeds I'll try to grow some. Thats my biggest resolution for the new year - grow more of my own veggies.
Good luck to everyone who is starting thier 30 day challenge for the 1st time, you will feel better for it and those pounds will drop away.:)

Just an update. Went to the gym again today--I'm so proud of myself! Usually I can talk myself out of exercising in two seconds flat. But I'm really committed to this, and it makes me feel great about myself. Of course, I'm way out of shape, so I'm feeling super sore at the moment. But I'm thinking of all the gorgeous new raw muscles my body is busy building! I've been having some pretty fierce cravings since Monday, all psychological but insistent. Tonight I beat them back with some kombucha, sunflower seeds, and cashews. I feel like I've eaten a lot today, but I think I'm just not used to waking up before noon and having to eat a whole extra meal before lunch! :p
Also, I read back through my journals from the first few months of my raw journey, and I slipped about once a month even then. That made me feel a lot better about my December slip. Somehow I'd gotten the idea that I hadn't ever slipped in those first few months, and that I desperately need to get that back. Turns out I've been human all along! So now I can focus on the future of my journey instead of the past, and maybe push those slip ups farther and farther apart.
Huge hugs to everyone on this challenge--your words and joy are so inspiring! We're a rawesome team!

Although it's already January 6th, I'd like to do the challenge too, I've been 100% raw since December 25th (after I was invited out for Chinese food and I got violently ill.) And C, although my husband respects my dietary choices, he too hates anything green unless it's Jello, so we can commiserate together, and find ways to disguise said veges as meat.
