COCA BUTTER- This is extracted from the CACAO beans and can be used to make chocolate. This is the stuff that smells like Chocolate and tasted slightly like chocolate. It is hard and stays hard even at room temp. LOL!!! You have to heat this up to get it to melt. Also wonderfull on your skin( Palmers cocabutter lotion) Looks a off white.
cocoNUT butter/oil - This is white Soild when cold and will melt at room tempture. This is made from COCONUTS and smells and tastes like coconuts. They are the same thing butter/oil there is no difference when it is COCONUT in the first word.
Coca butter - from Cacao beans-chocolate recipes, skin care
Coconut butter/oil- from coconuts - this is what you need for most recipes, smoothies.

Just bought coconut butter, it is the whole coconut, very different, NOW, I can see it in a smoothie, it is yummy. I do use coconut oil also, in food, and used it on my skin maybe 25 years ago. They are not the same thing, as many people are mis-informed. I live in Illinois too, I'll tell you where I got it, if we find out Alissa does not sell it.

Hey were you live??? Looking for someone to hit some of the resturants with. I think I saw you said you have been or are going to the Borrowed earth cafe. I want to go tomorrow. I also plan on hitting some of the ones in Chicago this year. Been to Karyn's love it!!!
I get my coconut oil from the health food store. I can't remember the name of it I think it is Here's Health. They have a store in South Elgin and one in Aurora. I get the NOW brand. I also get the emerald brand that one is the best but I can only get it in South Elgin at Natures Alternatives. That one tastes soooo goood it should be illegal LOL!!!
I use it on my skin and hair also. In the winter I use the COCAbutter on my skin and in the wamer months I use the COCONUTbutter/oil. I make my own hair and skin care products.
I love coconut oil in my products and my smoothies :p
OH I live in Batavia.

I live in the very Nortwest suburbs, McHenry. I have not been to Borrowed Earth since they opened, you know how this winter has been. If you would like to try to meet there on a Friday, maybe we could. Love Karyn's, too. But I would like to see Danny and Kathy again.

Many think that coconut oil and butter are the same...very different!!
Oil is just that, oil. will melt to a clear oil and solidify to a white solid
Butter is made from the whole coconut, meat and all...will never melt , just gets creamier when it's warm...easier to spread or spoon out.
Butter is THE best in smoothies for that real coconut taste, not the oily taste or feel.
Alissa sells BOTH oil and butter, check it out....

OMG thank you for bringing this up, for some reason it really frustrates me when the terms coconut oil and coconut butter are used like they're the same things.
coconut butter: the whole coconut meat and liquid ground up, it's thick, white/cream, and usually solid
coconut oil: is oil, the oil extracted from coconut, however it becomes solid at certain temps, leading people to believe it is a butter, this is more see through than coconut butter but still opaque and very light in color
coconut butter and coconut oil are two different things!

just like dairy BUTTER--melts at room temp solid when cold ---prob where the name originated, ya know?
that other stuff--with the WHOLE coconut--is usually referred to as coconut CREAM, right?
If something was called butter I'd expect it to melt.

I think Tropical Traditions refers to it as cream, but Artisana and Alissa call it butter and the oil is totally different...check out Alissa's store, they are right next to each other.

THANK you for clearing this up for me, too! I was getting frustrated with my own confusion. To make it extra fun, I have a jar of virgin coco de creme coconut oil. I wondered forever if I had coconut butter that they were just referring to as oil.... :p

Just like almond butter is not almond oil, or peanut butter, etc. I think once a person has had both, the confusion clears up about the oil not being butter. I guess the labeling has caused some of butter/cream confusion.
