Hi, I'm new, and I'd like to try. I've been using the excuse "but I'm too sore today", and that has to stop. My goals are:
at least a 45 minute workout at least 5 days a week.
Is there an exercise police to enfore this? That may be what I need!:)
charika

My goals are :yoga and/ or pilates 4-5 x a week.
Cardio (the firm and turbo jam) 5 x a week.
weight training 3-4 x a week.
So I would like to workout about 45 min to 1 hour each morning and about an hour each night. Sundays are my day off. This would just require cutting down on tv time (especially at night) and I definitly need that.:)

I need to get off my bee-hind and get training. Soooo unmotivated! I blew off swimming last night because I ate a cooked lunch and felt really bad. One glass of rejuvelac and I felt better, but it was a little late in the day to make up for the missed workout. February is all about going 100% raw while building my base training.
2008 Season Goals/Races:
*get double workouts in (i really am unmotivated to do these!)
Harriman Short Course .6 mi swim, 28 mi bike, 6.1 mi run under 4:00
Ironman Lake Placid, 2.4 mi swim, 112 mi bike, 26.2 mi run, under 12:30
Accenture Chicago Olympic Triathlon, 1.5K swim, 40k bike, 10k run - under 2:40
any road 5K under 26 minutes
any road 10K under 54 minutes
get some yoga in each week, especially on off days!
Count me in. I'll continue training for a marathon I won't be running in. :p
My goal, actually, is to incorporate in some more stretching after & before exercising. Also, upping my aerobic base.

Ok, I joined this forum back in the beginning of November and couldn't even bring myself to click on the Exercise and Fitness area until LAST WEEK. La la la maybe if I just ignore it ... it will go away? Ok, I'm here and I am armed with a treadmill, a rebounder and a handful of workout videos... I've been thinking about this because I don't want to bite off more than I can chew ... SO, for the month of February I will commit to some form of exercise 5 days a week for at least 30 minutes per day. I look forward to getting to know you all!
Heather
Cute post Di! I too am in! I want cupid's arrow bouncing off my behind instead of piercing it!:D
My plan is the same as last month.
On a side note - I think the exercise thing is working for me. In the last month I have gotten hitten on more at work this month than the last 5 years I have worked there. Actually its not funny - I need to get my wedding ring sized and back on my finger again. It has been a very long time since I have stirred up this kind of attention. But to be honest it feels a little good to be considered to be "hot" again by the opposite sex. Even though I make it very clear to everyone I am an old person with kids and very happily married. My husband asked me if he should make an appearance at my work. Ha ha! Its nice that he is a little jealous and concerned. It shows me he still cares and loves me after 15 years of marriage!:)

Ok, I decided to NOT wait until tomorrow - SEIZE THE DAY! I am SO out of shape, I know it's bad when my mom is complaining about how she feels and I can totally relate! YIKES! Anyway ... I homeschool and fitness has been lax since October (all we were doing then is walking 3 miles 4-5 times a week). So, today we are exercising together. Alternating between treadmill/rebounder and toning type exercises (maybe a 10 min. video, etc.). I have about 35 pounds to eliminate from my life and have lost 16 so far. But I don't want to be skinny and jiggly! My whole family is in a HUGE lifestyle change. My FIL had a heart attack back in September and it was a wake up call for my DH and me. We were making some minor changes both of us had around 50 pounds to loose. I stumbled back upon raw the beginning of November and made a significant change in what I was eating, DH took notice of what I was doing and we decided to do a juice fast after Christmas to clean out some of the garbage. It was a turning point and we have been incorporating more and more raw into our household. DH and I have been close to 100% and my children agreed to eat raw all day then after our evening salad have a little something cooked - this is huge for them (they are only 8 and 11). Also my parents join us every night for dinner so a big salad and a little something cooked works all around for now. So back to exercise ... I just wanted to let you all know a little of the journey I've been on, thanks for indulging me :D ...
TODAY:
25 push ups (against the counter, lame but it's what I can do)
25 crunches
15 min. treadmill
15 min. rebounder
Have a GREAT one!

I'm hesitant, but I'm in. I've finally gotten the diet thing down, now it's time to work on some fitness goals.
1 hour of cardio, at least 5 times a week
Learning to swim (I'm taking lessons starting on Sunday)
Strength training at least 3 times a week.
I think that's a good place to start.

I kept my promise and got 1 out of 2 workouts in so far today. i really have a hard time doing anything in the morning due to mental and physical fog, but today i felt pretty good so I did a workout at lunch. I will go to swimming practice as usual.
45 minute bike (hard hills)
Masters swimming 1:15 (yeah, an hour and 15 minutes of trying not to drown)
I like this raw food bar I came up with, its easy to digest and keeps me feeling good between workouts.

It's raining today so I don't know if I will be able to do any walking/running but in the morning I did some stretches, weighted whoola hoop and some abs exercises. Hoping when I join the YMCA club I will be able to use their equipment pretty often and do some weights.

...time to re-commit huh? Mind if I join ya...again?:o
Ok, I'm in...here's my realistic daily fitness goals...
~ Start & end each day with stretching for at least 5-10 minutes.
~ Get outside for a walk a minimum of 2-5 times a week (Also when I go out with a ride, I'll get dropped off a bit away & walk home).
~ Do daily exercise sessions with my equipment (stepper, rebounder, weights, physioball, etc.) goal-1 hour (broken up as needed) & on bad FM days, still a minimum-1/2 hour!
(Last month, on those days, I did little or nothing, & then it was so hard to keep starting over! Silly me!)
Ok, & also I commit to checking in & sharing what I've done each day!
(& NOT dissapearing if I don't do anything, but checking in anyways! )
Thanks for being here, & lettin' me start over!!!:D

Include strength training to at least 3 days each week.

Are you using TI? (Total Immersion) That is the BEST way to learn. They get you comfortable with the water. I started with that and it worked very well.

OK, I work out TOO MUCH and have managed to GAIN weight! I'll make a deal with you. You help me, I'll help you! LOL I am NOT atrainer but am "aspiring" to do something in that direction in the future....As a trainer maybe you can answer this for me....Could I possibly retain (A LOT OF) water weight because my body works out so much? OK, I'll explain. I literally drink 1/2 gallon of water in the a.m. and finish the other 1/2 after my 2 hour SWEATY run.....I of course eat 100% raw all day with lots of fruit (liquidy!) and often sauna at night. Most nights I do a 2nd workout either swimming/bike (trainer) before the sauna....I usually also drink 1-2 qts more of water throughout the day.....Do I drink TOO much? I tried to cut back but then I actually have digestive issues (constipation...) I take a probiotic daily + a digestive enzyme with a.m. and p.m. meal...No other supplements.....Just as a metabolism slows down when it goes without water could my body "hoard"/retain it because of my sweat rate???? I don't know, maybe I am grasping at straws and just need to starve myself a little!!!! I wonder if I'm lacking something??? I formerly (pre-raw) suffered from celiac/IBS + early menopause......I know you're a trainer and not a doctor, but I'm sure you know a lot about muscle recovery and inflammation.
ps....I am a little OCD about working out so bear with me :D
sorry I rambled, I'll continue in my blog!

I've had a few "inquiries" about the Pillar Point 10K Race the Lake for Research for neurofibromatosis so I copied and pasted the following LOOONG blog entry.....It is 6 months from tomorrow so I hope it inspires many of you to run.
BRAIN STORM!!!!!! I HAVE A BRILLIANT IDEA!!!
Here's a bonus I will offer only to you my raw cyber gym buddies. I am in NNY. You are in __________ all around the world. Let's make a deal...To register for the 10K people pay a $20 registration fee + receive a pledge sheet to raise donations. In return, participants get a free t-shirt, medal/certificate of completion, and a post race picnic.....Also, participants that raise $100 or more also get a sweatshirt!
So, my idea is this: If you are unable to attend the race in person, map out a 10K (6.2 miles) route where you live (or use your treadmill), register as if you'll be HERE (I will send you a registration form if you e-mail me or try to post one...) and pay the $20 fee. In return I will send you a t-shirt, medal/certificate (but I won't mail the picnic:rolleyes: ) + sweatshirt if you raise $100......You can time yourself and using the honor system I will post times and give out prizes!!!!! It'll be the ultimate cyber fitness forum workout!!!! So, read the post as follows and mark your calendars for Saturday August 2, 2008 at 9 a.m.!!!!!
Now, here's my story......Bear with me it's long....
My son Joshua is 11 years old now. He was assumingly born "normal" (if there is such a thing anymore!) and developed fine aside from walking later than the others...When he was a few months old he began developing "cafe-au-lait" spots. I took him to the doctor and found out it was one of the diagnostic criteria for neurofibromatosis.... www.ctf.org but all I heard was he has.....blahblahblahblahblah....because my knees buckled and I felt dizzy-shock? At any rate that was the beginning of all kinds of specialists and ultimately getting the diagnosis.....long story short, it's unpredictable and progressive so "wait and see" was my best advice..... ....yeah, well that lasted about 5 minutes. Most of you know me by now so of course wait and see is not my typical approach to things! I stumbled accross the NF Marathon Team program in 1999 and found out I could make a difference. The marathon program raises money for research, etc....which is ultimately the only way we will discover a cure or treatment...so unbeknownst to what a marathon even was and 50 pounds overweight I signed right up because after all this was my baby I was going to help!!!! I needed to raise I think $3,500 for my first "race" which was the Disney World Marathon in 2000. Let's see as far as fundraisers I've done the gammut: auctions, dinners, yard sales, candy bars, face painting, carnivals, booths, candle sales, and yes even a dunking booth.....lots of work! In '02 when I was "getting into it" I decided a "race of our own" could be a great fundraiser and that's how my race here began. My friend and I (who I met because HER son has NF too) host the "Pillar Point 10K" the first Saturday in August (8/2/08 this year) based out of my family summer business which is a boat marina. It's a perfect location and beautiful gathering spot before and after as it's right on the water. We have a picnic and families are welcome to come, stick around and enjoy the day.....swimming, sometimes a live band....It's turned into quite an annual event on our sleepy little town. Since I teach all year long the timing is perfect because I have time to devote to the planning (WHICH IS A LOT OF WORK!!!) once school is out for the summer. I would love to have some of my RAW FRIENDS see this race as both a challenge and a goal while at the same time being inspired to make a difference! We have a $20 registration fee and ask that participants try to raise $100 in pledges. I've had people raise over $1,000 before.....If you raise $100 or more we have prizes, etc.... It is well liked because we have the same people year after year and I try to make a personal connection to everyone (kinda like your wedding day!) We have people come from all over, especially families affected by NF......Please conseider it if you are remotely nearby...If you have to travel to get here consider making it a family vacation. If you have a boat, bring it and we'll find you a spot...If you have a tent, you can camp right at the marina! Consider it a rawunion! While the others are barbecuing we can nosh on fruit salad!!!!!!!! OK, off the soap box now,,,,,gotta do my long run!
btw, Joshua does not yet have any "serious problems" associated with nf but puberty is for some reason the time when things supposedly manifest so I will continue to "jog for josh" (that was our original slogan!!!) until there is a cure or I am not able to run.....
There you have it friends....Sorry I rambled on and on....I'll probably move this to my blog but I did want to share my story on the fitness thread too because I know some of you are searching for inspiration. What can be more inspiring than a child!!!!!!!!! I will try to post a picture later when I have time!!!!

nfracer -
cutting back on your water intake is definitely NOT the thing to do. Water is very much needed to dissolve and transport minerals, oxygen and nutrients to your body. It also aids in assimilation, metabolism and elimination.
Your body will hold on to water when adequate amounts are not supplied. This contributes to constipation which is probably the most common sign of inadequate water supplies. Constipation also causes the body to retain water to dilute the poisons absorbed from the intestines.
Adequate water intake is also crucial for weight loss. Before fat can be burned or released from the cells, it must first be free of the toxins stored in the cells, water flushes the toxins stored in those fat cells. Do make sure that you are having regular potty breaks thereby eliminating the toxins. A heavy water intake with little elimination could be a sign of hypoglycemia, so check it out with your health practitioner if this is the case.
A lot of people also think that the resolve to water retention is to cut back on their water intake. The cause of water retention is often times a lack of water. When the body does not get enough water it holds on to it and stores it in extra cellular (outside the cell) spaces which shows up as swollen hands, feet, etc. If you are retaining water, even with the vast amount you are currently drinking perhaps it is still not enough for your body. Make sure you drink plenty water before, during and after exercising.
Your weight gain may be due to an increase in muscle mass since you exercise so often. We want to increase muscle (without bulking up) and decrease fat. I would suggest monitoring your fat content with a tape measure or simply by the feel of your clothes. The scale is not the best measure especially for athletes because it measures total body mass - water, muscle, bone and fat.
Sorry to be so wordy, but hope this helps.
Blessings!

I'm a believer in water. I don't think you are drinking too much considering how much you work out...I used to drink a gallon minimum daily (usually would stop tracking after I reached my gallon)...Since I've lost weight, my body no longer requires the gallon unless I'm in an intense workout. Lately, that hasn't happened you know, my workouts are nothing like they used to be. I still drink close to a gallon and I think once I gravitate to more intense workouts again, my water intake will increase.
DivaInTheRAw could be on to something.....Just wondering, what kind of enzymes do you take? My former pre-raw days were filled with chronic constipation. I'm still not at the stage where I can say I go 3x/day but it is way different compared to the pre-raw days. I know that you are on top of it though (as far as being proactive regarding your health) and that's a big plus:)

Oh yeah...
I'll be doing my strength and the rest of my cardio later on and will post the results.. still shooting for my hour. I was outside for over and hour shoveling snow and cleaning off cars (mom and dad's house).. I'm physically drained but I'm am "recharging" and I'm going to attempt to go home and see if I can get up my windy, curvy, scary hill (a little over 20 minutes away and where the snow and ice hit the hardest)...... So, that means that for now all I've got is:
1 hour (actually, a little more) shoveling snow

Yes, more water has already helped today...but I won't elloborate:eek: Maybe that's also why my speed is still so much lower than before I broke my leg.....I do take an enzyme + probiotic......I change brands.....really like "Garden of Life" but it's soooo costly! I got stuck and ended up having to park somewhere other than my spots...but oh well, I'm still working it out; there is no way I'm starting February off by skipping out on exercises.....I can't think of one good reason; so......the next time I check in I'll have exercise to report.
Oh yeah, I've used Alissa's and I've also used a brand by Kal or Solaray I think...I like Alissa's..when I take hers, I know I am guaranteed at least a single you know what....

Well, I got a little walking in, not as much as I would've liked, but after walking in the snow, my legs ache & even burn with tension & pain, so I didn't over-do it:rolleyes: ...& I'm in the process of getting the living room floor cleared to work out real quick here~
I also did a little stretching this morning, {not as much as I needed but the dumb phone wouldn't stop ringing!} I included that in my goals because it makes such a huge difference with the FM, & my endurance for everything else physical that I do. Will do more tonight!
I really enjoy the way I feel when I'm more active...like the raw food can heal me & nourish me much more effectively!:D

Sorry no one addressed this. I work out in the a.m. with a juice pre-run around an hour or 1/2 hour before....going to get it as soon as I'm done typing this actually....I also drink water first.....That seems to be enough....when it's not (some days) I have 1-2 pieces of fruit like bananas, etc... Since you are working out in the afternoon maybe you've run out of steam due to "life" so a good idea would be a fruit meal maybe 1-2 hours prior to your workout (what's your lunch like?) Keep in mind that living foods digest easier & faster than non-living foods so it shouldn't sit "heavy" with you if you stick to carbs....I bet a green smoothie would be awesome! Try different things and make sure you are getting enough WATER!!! Read the post above from divaintheraw regarding dehydration....I am taking her advice....I'll let you all know how it helps/hurts my "long run" today.....((sure it will help!!)) Good luck!

....I'm back (juice in hand;) )....We are located in northern new york...just watch the news right now we're the ones that have been HAMMERED this week with the gamut of winter weather. I am 30 minutes from Ontario, Canada (Thousand Islands area) and just outside of Watertown an hour north of Syracuse, NY and located close to Fort Drum, NY.......Hope that narrows in where DEXTER, NY is for everyone-----yes, a VERY quaint town where everyone knows everyone and we all seem to hibernate in winter:) !
We have had NYC dwellers (Manhattan) come to the race as well as Long Island and NJ so if I hear of any think CARPOOL! or do the "cyber race plan" idea.......Hey, whatever works. BTW thanks for reminding me WHY I even started running to begin with....Now that it's been years and is just part of my daily routine I sometimes forget that it all began as a "fight" from a determined concerned mommy!!!! He once asked me "Mom, if I didn't have NF would YOU still be healthy?" LOL----out of the mouths of babes!!!

Hey, sorry to rerepost----but it's 6 months from today guys.....I'll work on a pdf registration later maybe, ok? ((no pressure;) ))

Hello Friends!
So far I've managed 47 mins of cardio. This month I'm focusing on time and not so much on tracking how many calories you burn doing a particular exercise. I'm also going to working on rebuilding physical stamina and endurance...you tend to lose a lot of that with a lot of fasting (at least I do). I still have 13 more minutes to get in to meet my february goal of 1 hr of daily exercises.... I'll do those later....
12 min functional exercises focusing on push/pull movements & hip/spine rotations
30 min walk aerobics with intervals
5 min running drills (still got that half marathon in the back of my mind)
Hi my RAW fitness buddies!
I saw something about a cyber marathon up there?! :p I'm currently training for the 8K or more Richmond Marathon in November, which I won't be running in, but I kind of just want to train for it! Why not?!
I walk about 2.2 miles everyday, which I already did not too long ago. I'll be checking my marathon book tonight to see how many miles I should hit on the treadmill. Thanks to the RAWker who mentioned watching a video while running. THAT has helped me tremendously! I used to DIE running 2.5 mph on the treadmill. Now I can do about 4mph pretty ok. :D
Basically, I'm working to improve my aerobic base for 4 months or so, & I won't be able to do any strength training. That makes me a little sad. :( I've always wanted to get better at running though. So I don't mind the trade-off so much.
Keep at it you guys! Have a great weekend & see ya tomorrow! http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n255/four_of_five/salute.gif

Today I decided to scale back my long run and run 15 miles rather than 20....I feel fine now----still freezing though!!!! I did go to the hfs and did my research on Wilson's syndrome. We'll see if Dr. me can help myself and warm up a little!!!!!

Hi, all you raw athletes!
{& everyone on their way to becoming one!}
mind if I pour out my heart a bit?
I'm having a bit of a rough start, getting back to being more active...
...someday I'd LOVE to do a marathon (we have quite a few different kinds here in my hometown, & in Vancouver, where I lived 14 years) but right now I can hardly walk around the block...in fact, truth is, I can't.:(
Every time I try to get more active, my dumb FM flares up & I end up barely able to even walk around my apartment! I'm sooooo tired of that!!!
Sometimes I feel like my body has betrayed me....but I know the truth is I betrayed it, & it's needs.
I'm facing the fact that every single health problem I have is directly attributable to lifestyle. I did this to myself, & I have to undo it.
When God healed me {instantly!} of inflammatory breast cancer in November, He began to show me that I need to take full responsibility for my other health problems.
I realized that, deep down, I longed to just wake up fit, healthy, slim, FREE of this obesity! {Please, God! Are you SURE you won't do that???}
I've been examining that, & praying about it, to get through to the other side of that feeling, & have finally faced facts...I am, in truth, lazy. And for the most part, quite undisciplined. & no matter how much determination & desire I have, I also HAVE TO develop the habit of consistancy that I've never had in my life with practically everything!
{I've been on my own sinse I was 12, & have led a very carefree, impulsive existance, even after becoming a Christian, & a mama...& boy, do old habits die hard!}
When I COMMIT to being active, & set clear goals, I get so focussed on making up for lost time, I inevitably over-do it...which doesn't take much right now, actually!:D Then of course I get all frustrated at my limitations & give up. Dumb, I know, but still, I keep doing it. {AUGH!!!!!}
So all this {venting? whining?} is just to say, I really need this accountability, & am so thankful you're all here, no matter our different fitness levels...it inspires me so much to read of the things you're all doing each day, it's helping me get a better picture of how HEALTHY, dosciplined folks live!, & I'm determined to press on, one day at a time, even if I have to keep learning how to restrain myself to NOT overdo it, & yet still move enough to improve my fitness level.
Balance!
Consistancy!
Discipline!
Commitment!
Perseverance!
Patience!
And of course, raw chocolate avacado agave vanilla pudding!!!:p
(Off to make some right now, then do some weights, & gentle stretching!)
K, I feel much better now...
...thanks for listening!:)

A great big group hug and thumbs up to you. You have done a great thing in being able to see your current state and understand that you do in fact, have the power to change your state. Please do remember the power of your words, your confession is your possession. I've learned that words can be life altering. I'm reading a book by T. D. Jakes and he talks about "state" & "fate"....
To make a long story short, look at what is happening in your life right now, the good the bad and the ugly...ask yourself "is this my fate or my state?" If you believe it is your fate, then you might as well throw in the towel but if you understand that this is just a temporary state then you will be able to make an assessment of your life, and then act accordingly to change what you wish. Your define your success and you know what is best for you as your post brilliantly reflects....Now do it:)

Wow! I was thinking of how to offer support to Anastazia, but you did so well I am piggybacking on yours!!!!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you anastazia...
Yesterday's exercise I didn't have time to post: 45 minutes
30 minutes of taebo – 15 minutes of advanced abs of steel
Anastasia - I can relate to some of what you are going through. The good news is how God is allowing you to see and get real with you situation. It would be easy for God to allow us to just be thin overnight and not have to bear the consequences of our actions but then we would never learn and probably go back to where we began as it would never make an impression in us that would last. The more painful the road back to health the more I think we remember where we came from and don't take for granted good health (when we have it). Look at my signature and claim this verse for yourself or a new one. You are not by yourself you have God's strength and all of us cheering you on. You need to do this for yourself and your daughter.
Set small reasonable goals and eventually you can increase them. And you are right about consistency and discipline. It will be a trait you will have to fight for if it isn't in your nature. It isn't easy for any one of us here and all of us have had to learn this as well. I know at least Lavender J and I were 100 pounds heavier when we began and we know how hard it is. So if we can do this (and believe me I was a super undisciplined person before I began and somewhat still am) so can you. It is when we are weak HE can become strong in You!
Take care - you can do this! Now as Lavender has said Do it!

Good for you in trying to make positive changes. My question to you is what defines an athlete? Why not sign up for a 5k race as a goal and say you are training for an event. i alway find that great motivation!
I started my "athlete" journey with a walking and running combination. Its a great way to start and the most important thing is to be consistient.
Youa re already on the right path!

 So much for a rest day----feeling so energetic since starting maca again and some new supplements...I did my first brick work out (bike-run)
Sunday is usually my rest day with just a sauna and swim....Today I decided to gradually "slide in" to a bike-run trial...I rode my trainer (thank you Leslie!) for 30 minutes, jogged and fast walked for 40 minutes on the TM (3 miles) and then 10 more minutes on the bike before hitting the sauna for 40 minutes and then a shower-church- and my usual Sunday swim.....a mile.....
This afternoon I taught a kombucha workshop at the HFS and it was a blast!
I am pumped....& I feel great!!!!

Ok my husband just updated my pictures. I posted these in another section on RFT but I wanted to show my exercise buddies my latest progress. It has been about 17 months since I started raw and I am about 5 pounds from my goal weight. I know how seeing pictures are inspirational to people who are trying to lose weight so I thought by sharing these it might motivate some of you who may be struggling.

Wow, thank-you so much for your words of wisdom & encouragement, & for everyone's support & prayers.:D It's really lifted me up, & given me the strength tonight to push a little more, & do the stretching my body is crying out for...& to stay focussed on ONE DAY AT A TIME!!!
Love your new pics, Morn, you're soooo beautifully radiant!!!
Keep goin' everyone!

LOL! Sisters! Yep we are indeed! That was funny. I think its the best way to start getting into fitness and running. You have to start slowly or you are going to get an injury and then suffer some mental setbacks. My friend who is an amazing cyclist thought her fitness would translate over to marathon and she just started training away. she got a stress fracture and was really bummed. She had to take 8 weeks off and then start back very slowly with running so she didnt fall back into the same injury.
How was that brick? I always love the first few shorter ones...then they get interesting. On mine the second run I could really feel my legs in the transition. I have a duathlon comming up that is F1 style. run-bike-run-bike-run, so I am trying to mimic that with some of my workouts.
Have a great day everyone!

Hi All
I fell off my raw wagon in December and January but am climbing back on now. I really noticed the difference in my energy levels and my skin is really bad so I'm back with a green smoothie in hand and raring to go. Its wrong to have acne at 47 :( .
I've still been training well, I've a marathon on 27th April so need to keep on track with that. I did 14 miles saturday mostly off road, it was icy, muddy and hilly but fun then I did a short 2 miler yesterday to stretch the legs and stop them stiffening up.
I have decided to do a personal fitness trainer course so want to get into the best shape possible (maybe Morns shape - you look fab :) ). I cant start it yet so will use the time wisely to improve all over fitness, I need to work on my upper body and core, all suggestions welcomed!
I'm still getting the headaches and migraines. Thats why I let the raw % slip over the past couple of months as the migraines were unbearable, they didn't stop completely with cooked food either, so will have to find a way through them.
Keep up the good work guys

Good Morning ALL! Anastazia - we can do this. I have NEVER been athletic in my life. When my friends back in school were involved in sports - no, not me. I never played a single extra curricular sport or dance or anything of the sort. I am having to learn now at 37 (almost 38) how to be active for MY health AND for my children's. I started my raw journey back in November and didn't even think about exercise until the end of January. And I can walk 30 minutes on my treadmill (not very fast) and I can do modified push ups, I can't wait until I can do regular floor push ups (even the girl ones). So, we are all on a journey and we're all at different points in it but as long as we keep walking forward it is progress. But as I watched my son (11) RUN on the treadmill this morning it almost brought tears to my eyes. I not only want to do this for myself but for them because I don't want them to be almost 38 and having to learn these same lessons. We CAN do this.
SO... for today I walked 30 minutes on the treadmill and did 40 modified push ups and some stretching. Off to make my green smoothie!
Have a GREAT raw day!

Just had a read back
Anastazia, you have taken the first steps which are always the hardest. It dosen't matter if you take it one day at a time or one hour at a time so long as you do it.
Miah Tay, practically all people who start running as adults start with a walk/run programme, it can be as little as walk 1 min/run 30 seconds, or whatever you can manage. Our bodies are amazing and will respond to any exercise, no matter how out of shape we are.

:p I love the comradary of this thread! I REALLY DO feel like I am in the gym alongside you all! I like how MiahTay and Anastazia are "teaming up!"
I did a "light brick" this a.m. I want to train my legs gradually from the bike to the run so I rode my trainer for 30 minutes, then ran on the treadmill for 90 minutes....then a 20 minute sauna to stretch and prepare for a regular workday (without snowstorms) and to modify my eting plan for the day!!!

Ha! Stretching IS a workout to me, some days!!!
Thank-you SOOOOOO much, y'all, for the support, words of wisdom, & encouragement! I feel so envigorated & hopeful & more determined than ever after reading through this entire February post this morning...um, afternoon...(yup, still on a night schedule, & up on 5 hours sleep...hopefully I'll be in bed arlier tonight!)
Morn, your words really sunk in today, & as I look at your pics I'm in awe at what is possible! I know I have a looooong way to go, but I know that month by month I'll be stronger, & be able to accomplish more, & once I can actually work out for a decent amount of time straight, it'll help the weight come off faster...& thanks, Heather, for helping me get a clearer perspective on this! It's hard to picture myself being more & more active sometimes, it's been so long of a downhill decline, but I'm beginning to really believe it IS truly possible, & doesn't have to take as long as it feels!!! hey, I'm aimin' for the "Most Improved" award I heard NFRacer mention a few posts back!!!
Ok, now that my butt has healed from the kick NFRacer gave it.... {are ya ready for this....drumroll please...} I decided today that this week I'm going to get online & find the info to sign up for the 5K {walking, for me, of course! If I tried to run, I'd give myself black eyes, as my brother used to say!} that happens here every summer for raising money for MS {which my Grandpa died of, my mom has, & I was showing symptoms of (& tentatively diagnosed with) this summer, but nothing sinse...I believe Raw is healing me of it!!!} I've wanted to do it the last 2 years! My mom & GRANDMA do it, my mom (& her sisters!) in her wheelchair & my Grandma with colon cancer! Last year was the first year in many that they were unable to, due to health, after many, many years of doing it in honor or my Grandpa...they register with the MS society under the name "Godfrey's Grannies" (Cuz they're all grandmas! I just FEEL like one, but will be one one day, so I want to pick up where they left off & do it for them, & raise money, too, on behalf of them!)
So YES, I'm going to sign my daughter & I up for it, & break down & track my goals as I prepare for it!!! (Yup, I'll be asking questions on this later!}
& when I DO the 5K, I'm even goona post pictures here of us crossing the finish line!!! Yup, REAL, full body shots!!!
I can't believe I'm even writing this down, like a REAL athlete or somethin'!!!
Ok, you can all stop gigglin' now, & get back to your workout!!!

Hi MiahTay,
I saw your post about exercise. I know how hard it is to get started. I wanted to let you know about an exercise machine I bought that I really love. It is called the VibraTrim. It is a whole body vibration machine. Ten minutes on this machine is suppose to equal 1 hour in the gym. I'm not sure about that but I know it does work. I've lost inches in placed that would be hard work to lose in a gym. Here is the website if you would like to read about it. www.myvibratrim.com
I think all types of exercise is good but a lot of times I don't have time for anything but the VibraTrim. It is a fun machine and I don't get tired of it. I thought you might like to check it out. It also has a lot of health benefits.

Not so much activity this weekend for number of reasons, BUT this morning I woke early and did 25 minutes of strength training. Doing abs with a 4 year old laying on top of you is a little bit more challanging!:) After work today I made it to the Y for my brick training that did not happen outside this weekend. I did 45 min on the bike and then ran for 30 minutes and I have to say I really felt GREAT!......okay except for the last say 8 minutes of my run, but it was bearable!:) and the first 22 was GREAT:D
Just an FYI .....Yesterday I made the zuchinni hummus dip in ALissa's book and it was fabulous! the whole family liked it!

I have been stubborn. I have wanted things my own way. I have watched my weight continually go up and my health continually go down. I am tired literally all of the time. My entire body aches and hurts from carrying around so much weight. My head hurts all of the time. I never feel well. I am getting scared of how I feel. I almost feel like I should go to the doctor but I am afraid to. I know what I need to do. I know any ailments I have can be cured through proper eating.
After work today I am going to get what I need to go raw again. I feel like I am at bottom and have no other choice at this time. I am only 36 and should bot be feeling like this. It is all I can do to get through each day.
I was taking some type of herbal colon cleanse stuff.. It said not for extended use, so I was only going to use it til it was gone. Well, I threw it away today. I noticed that every time I took it I felt as though I was going to throw up and my whole body felt awful. Plus, I immediately kept becoming bloated after taking it.
Anyway, here I am. I need you guys!
Add me to this month's challenge.
If you don't hear from me each day, morn and nfracer, you have the right to email me and kick my butt on over here!

I especially appreciated what you said, that you know any ailments you have can be cured through proper eating...when we finally come to the place of accepting the truth in that, it somehow has made it easier, for me anyways, to take full responsibility for everything I choose to eat, & to resist the temptations of old familiar comfort foods...I pray that's true for you, too! I just got up! Yippeee! Anyone have a suggestion for a SHORT rebounding workout video? Like 10-20 minutes (not more than 30). Thanks!
It is so encouraging to see what everyone is doing, it actually makes me imagine doing it myself. Yesterday when my DS got off the treadmill he commented that we should train for the Turkey Trot (5K) in Chattanooga this Thanksgiving. We had TALKED about doing it this past year but never did anything to prepare for it. I've still been thinking about your (virtual option) 10K in August but I don't know if I'm brave enough.

nfracer - thanks for the link. I checked it out and he made it look possibly doable (at least simple enough to understand). So my question is ... I am carrying an extra 30-40 pounds right now. I would love to start running but would this be bad for my skeleton? You know ... knees, back, etc.? I suppose I can also ask my chiropractor this Sat. also. If I get the thumbs up from the chiro I might start with his 5K novice schedule and see what I can do with it.
Thanks again.

I broke my foot last year in February - 5 fractures - and was confined to a wheel chair until April. That was a real eye opener. I was also totally overweight at 207 lbs. I bought a treadmill in April to rehabilitate my foot. Having the treadmill in my home has helped greatly with getting back into a regular workout routine. Availability plus proximity made it happen for me. I am kind of ambience dependent and like my workout environment to meet my needs. When I started exercising I needed a big fan to blow on me and cool me down. This helped greatly with endurance. I think it's important to figure out what will work for you. My current weight is 128 lbs. I started out slowly - I am not the pain type and like to remember my workouts as fun. My present routine is:
5-7 mi on the treadmill ( 2mi running the rest striding fast uphill)
5 x per week
weight training
4 x per week
Pilates
7 x per week
3 x per week step aerobics
and I just added in "The dancer's body" workout by Gaiam.
It sounds like a lot, but really isn't. A little time management or awareness of time helps. A mile takes only 12 minutes. I do some in the morning, a little in the afternoon, and some in the evening. Once you get going and loose the weight and gain a better fitness level the workouts become a real joy. I love mixing it up and keep motivated by watching a little fittv.
I am 5'3 and will be 53 in April. By then I want to have lost an additional 23 lbs. At my height weighing 105 lbs I hope the Arizona summer will be not only much more bearable but actually enjoyable.
Let's do it!

Hi folks
I haven't done any exercise today, dentist appointment this morning and a job interview this afternoon. i'd made myself nervous about the interview so didn't sleep last night then crashed this evening before I was due to meet friends for a run.
Miah Tay, I have been running whilst overweight for almost 10 years (hopefully this is the last year, the weight is going). It is vital that you start slowly and sensibly with a gentle walk run programme. Take a look on www.runnersworld.com or www.runnersworld.co.uk (same thing but different presentation. I find the uk one better. In addition to this you MUST buy PROPER running shoes. The lightest of people cause themselves injury by running in the wrong shoes. You wont need to worry about the shoes until you are running for about 10-15 mins solidly but you will need them.
Remember that running will help you loose that extra weight quickly if you eat sensibly.

I was 50 pounds overweight when I began walking & running. Outside I ran between telephone poles. Inside I ran in 1,2,3,etc... minute chunks....Gradually I became a runner.....Think of it this way-The weight will come off faster if you're active + as you lose weight your performance will be enhanced...Just think for every 5 lbs. you lose it's one less bag of sugar that your body has been used to carrying.:D I got faster and faster! I have also overcome a lot of obstacles (and still am)

Made it to the Y this afternoon., a beautiful sunny Fla day! and swam for 45 minutes ish.... It was good to get in the water. I have to tell you when I went out there I was the only one swimming for a while...just me and the lifeguard. After a little while one person came out then another and then another and they were in the adjacent lanes to me .....and going REALLY FAST...making me feel REALLY SLOW! I'm not sure why they felt the need to be right next to me, perhaps to make themselves feel faster...perhaps:rolleyes: So it was a 2 for 1 exercise session today. I felt good because I swam over a half mile and I know they MUST have felt good lapping me several times!;) I'm here to help!:)

My goals are : At least 30 minutes of Cardio 4 days a week. To strengthen my core and to loose 30lbs by July of 08.
Today I will do a 45 minute pilates class and this evening I am taking an hour long African Dance class!
Aw man, that African Dance class is great I bet; I had a video a long time ago (think someone "borrowed" it)....

I decided to push myself some this morning. Thank you ALL for you advice and words of encouragement. So after considering what my next step was going to be I decided to add some interval running into my treadmill walking time. So this morning I walked 4 minutes and ran 1 minute for 30 minutes, then I cooled down (slower walk) for 5 minutes. Did stretching and 40 pushups (modified). So, for those of you who know what you are doing - question... I am walking at 3.5 mph. and running at 5.0 mph. does this seem right for a beginner? Just looking for opinions. I will say I feel such a sense of accomplishment, it makes me feel GREAT. Thanks again! Oh and BTW I actually exceeded my goal of 30 minutes total exercise - that is also a good feeling. Ok, I'm off to Sam's Club for more produce :D .
Have a GREAT day!

I got a huge eye-roll at the grocery store the other day! The guy checking me out (not, THAT kind of checking me out) said they get paid by how fast they check people out and he is bad with produce. I told him to practice and ask me what anything is if he didn't know. He didn't know like half of the items. Kale? Jeez. This store is actually known for its training and they have a lot of "unusual" produce. Hannaford, if anyone else has one by them.
Literally half of the belt was full of produce.

It is almost without fail that I have to tell the cashier what at least one item is. The other day I stopped JUST to get bananas because we were out both fresh and ones in the freezer so I was buying like 10 lbs. and got the comment "wow, you must eat a lot of bananas". I felt like saying - duh. But then she couldn't get her scale to work so I loaded up my bananas and went to another checkout - scene one take two... It was almost the same comment. I just laugh, and realize what an oddity I must be to them.

Heather, that is EXACTLY the right way to do it! Good for you! when you want to increase after 2-3 weeks, use the 10% rule. dont increase either speed or time more than 10% of what you are doing, and do only one at a time. Slow and steady wins the race!

Good Morning, everyone!
Yesterday was a hectic day, but I did accomplish most of my exercise goals...
...today, I'm up on 3 & a half hours sleep, have a ton of things to do around the house, so have to get those done first {after stretching, right after I post this...} THEN I'll get on my stepper, & pick up my weights, & do my best to NOT have a nap today! (So I can go to bed early, & get back on a morning schedule!)
The chair I was using at my desk finally broke yesterday (it's been in the process for weeks) so now I'm sitting here on a hard, uncomfortable wooden chair, not able to be on it more than 5 minutes at a time without gettting up & moving around...so I'm getting more exercise that way, too! Lol! & I think I'm going to try setting up my physioball to sit on, it's supposed to help your posture & core strength! Or I could sit on this!
{Sorry if you have to cut & paste the link...but it's worth it!!! Have your speakers on!!! I just checked, it worked for me, hopefully it will for you, too!}

Hey-I broke my right leg! We'd be awesome in a 3-legged race!!!! As long as the burlap sack was on our good legs!!!! I broke the neck of my femur and had the "metal hardware" for 1 1/2 years. Just had it out in September and am hoping to get back to Boston qualifying times!!!! ((sigh-those were the days!-we'll see!)) Maca doesn't seem to bother me at all! I feel like TARZAN ((ok, maybe GI Jane-LOL))....;)

Hey, now that I think about it ... I started adding Maca into my smoothie last week and I am definitely feeling more energy. I just throw in a Tablespoon, doesn't seem to affect my stomach at all. The thought actually crossed my mind to pull out my Pilates video and do the flexibility portion. I am feelin' GOOD today!
I'm back from Sam's Club had to delay my trip due to weather and it's 45 minutes away (yes, that's the closest one) so I didn't want to drive in the rain if I didn't have to. So... of course the cashier commented that she has NEVER seen anyone purchase so much produce before - LOL! I just grinned and told her that wasn't even ALL the produce I would buy this week. Her eyes got really big and she said "THIS WEEK!" As I walked away she was taking a drink of her Mountain Dew.

I just got permission at work to run a weight loss/ get healthy challenge! Our executive director ok'd it yesterday. So, we will meet once a week for weigh in, support, recipe exchange, etc... We will base it on weight loss and making healthy changes. It will be a points system. We will run in 6 month intervals. I started this to give me a kick in the butt and to give me support. AND IT WORKED! I am going to do mine raw, but people can do whatever type of diet they want. If anyone has any cool topics we could discuss let me know. We will be having 1 hour meetings once a week.
How cool is this? :D

That is very cool! I always find that if I have others I am responsible for I stay motivated. Here are some topics I thought of off the top of my head and they aren't specific to ANY diet but good information to have:
Healthy Fats
Different Exercise Options and how much is good
Food Journaling
Fasting
Drinking Water
Moderation
Cholesterol
Easy ways to incorporate fruits and veggies into your diet
Food Combining (Fit For Life-not vegetarian)
Effects of Coffee

Ok! This is SO cool! I actually have energy! I have been waking up without my alarm clock after only 7 hours of sleep. I Got up this morning before everyone else and made juice for all of us ... 2 KINDS! Then I hit the treadmill and did the same interval workout I did yesterday I will say it did seem harder this morning but I pounded it out none the less. Tomorrow will most likely be a day off for me as it's the day I take my mom grocery shopping and we do the library and HF store also, sucks up the day pretty quick, then we have our friends coming over for dinner - we actually have friends that come over every friday night and we do RAW! So, it will be my family of 4 and my parents and our friends who are a family of 3, so it will be dinner for 9! We usually just do a salad bar and add whatever fun raw recipes we feel like trying that day. It is so nice to have others to share this with. But who knows ... If I wake up early I may get in a workout anyway.
Have a GREAT day!

Also how much sleep are you getting overall?

Hi, y'all!
Did a good amount of moving yesterday, am a little stiff/sore today, but am pushing through & going to be working out here in the next hour, wheile Hannah's at gym class.
Also I'm stretching more & more, throughout the day, which is really helping me keep moving.
Hannah's all excited about the 5k, we're doing a little googling about how to prepare, & making a plan to gradually increase our amount of time walking/running....
(...she's likely going to run/walk it, I'm going to walk (crawl?) it...)
My scale seems stuck, too...so I'm goona ignore it for awhile...:p
...& I woke up with swollen glands, all congested, feeling like I'm definately getting something...off to do the garlic thing...(at least ten cloves  in broth or whatever, twice in the next few hours, usually wipes it out...)
I'm FINALLY getting my living room put back together so I can leave my rebounder set up,etc. & get back to getting on it throughout the day...2 minutes minimum every hour on the hour is supposed to be what helps your adrenal glands...
I also am no longer allowing myself to sit sometimes when I do the dishes...I need to be on my feet more...so I don't get it all done at once, but it is helping me be able to stand longer at one time....(except when I don't get enough sleep...yesterday, on 3 & a half hours, I couldn't even stand for 5 minutes...but lately, I've been able to longer & longer!:D
So far today, I've stretched, cleared my living room, done some light weights, & leg lifts/mini lunges...will push through the day as I'm able to get more in.
Have a strong, active day, everyone!
Get some sunshine if you can!

Good Morning! I'm up have made carrot juice. Today was my scheduled "day off" from exercise, but I actually wanted to at least take a walk on the treadmill, so I did my 30 minutes just walking today. Feeling good, running a little behind schedule have to still make smoothies for on the road then take my shower but I just wanted to check in and say I've met my goal for this week a day early and hopefully I'll get in a workout tomorrow. Oh, and also we went out to look at a piece of property and I walked up a pretty big hill for about a quarter mile then back down and wasn't huffing and puffing! So cool! See y'all later! Oh, LavendarJ ... cardio kickboxing sounds like so much fun .... maybe some day  . I was also looking at Indian Clubs yesterday - my kids want me to get some but they are not cheap!

Okay finished my workout for today
From this morning:
15 min total body s. training with medicine ball
This afternoon:
30 min strength training on weight machines at gym with sister
(concentrated on inner/outer thighs, leg presses, seated rows, and lat pulldowns)
20 min intervals treadmill & bike
Take care of yourselves
Morn, I wanted to tell you that I printed out your before and after pix and I have them hanging above my desk at work and one on my fridge so if I am tempted to stray I see how much progress you have made and it inspires me! I am hoping to get some exercise in today, I am feeling a bit better.
Thats cool.
Just thinking I should probably do the same so it will keep me on the straight and narrow path. I don't ever want to go back there again.
Sorry I have been MIA - Wednesday night got free tickets to the pistons game from my work so after work we went out to dinner and to the game and because of the weather didn't get home til 12:30. Thursday worked late and didn't have any energy.
So today I worked out at the gym after I dropped off the kids at school and then we spent the whole day looking at Used cars. Both of my leased vehicles came due at the same time last month and we turned them in and are down to 1 15 year old mini van. So we need to buy 2 cars. I would appreciate any prayers for wisdom on what to buy and that God would lead us to a good deal.
So here is today's exercise:
30 minutes: stair master
15 minutes stationary bike
10 minutes floor abdominal exercises

Good luck with the car search as well.
I have been out of commission sick and am just finally feeling human again.
I am off here in a minute to do 1 hour of Jazzercise.
so, my exercise for today: 1 hour Jazzercise.

oh, and our weightloss group at work officially starts Monday February 18 so once a week starting that day i post weight and measurements.
i am really going to try and do this group mostly raw. i do pretty well except that i do have things like wheat wraps, veggie burgers, wheat pasta with vegetable sauce, etc... so i am no perfect but i am trying. i just feel that need for variety lest i get too hungry or bored. eventually i may buy a dehydrator. but i do plan to try some recipes out soon with my new food processor.

I am recovering from a "reality check" run! I ran outside (11.5 miles) in 26 degrees feeling like _______ mainly to get my head back in the game! I don't understand. At the beginning of the week I was flying on endorphins and running strong. Then suddenly, wham...I have been "off" for 3 days....So today I had a pep talk run on the road cuz I knew I would cheat on the treadmill! No cheatin' out in the country in winter!!!! I feel lots better. I just need to get my major fluid fluctuations under control...I think one culprit is the (Bragg's ) liquid aminos......made from soy? and full of sodium? Duh, no wonder. I can't tolerate soy and had a TON (ok a cup!!! ) of it yesterday mixed with nutri-yeast and water for a cheese sauce!!! Would that explain a 10 pound weight increase overnight? I kid you not, 10 pounds!!!! And guess what, I ran and sweat like crazy and that 10 pounds is gone....Disgusting I know but true! I feel like something is not in the right balance with me but can't pinpoint it and will not see a dr around here and I am not having luck finding a naturopath....I have researched "Wilson's Syndrome", and maybe adrenal fatigue? I have been drinking more water,,,,staying 100% raw....even stopped chewing gum due to the chemicals. I do not even drink tea or coffee (coffee has been a crutch I've used off and on this winter to prevent running down-I know-bad....but I am only human!).......sorry to unload all this here. I wrote more in my blog....I don't want to dishearten anyone either. I think everyone here is doing super with their efforts. I guess I shared so you can see my vulnerable human side! I really really really want to stay 100% raw but think I need more protein as a runner (I have ridges in my nails-sign of deficiencies in protein and B vitamins!!!)......I am open for suggestions...I'd love it to be food based as opposed to supplements but do currently supplement with: tyrosine, DHEA, guggal, wild yam extract, colloidal minerals, and kelp to address the "wilson's syndrome" issues.....now what for the adrenals????? AAAGGGHHHH, I said this in my blog but I'll say it again. I switched to a living foods lifestyle to simplify not complicate. I don't WANT to take pills, etc, but feel like I must to get better/at least on track......ok, I'll blog all this instead...sorry again to unload all this....what a coach I am! :(

Interesting stuff...I don't know anything about Wilson's Syndrome but I understand where you are coming from. Living healthy really is a lifelong journey. Thanks for sharing that info. My sister and I are trying to figure out ways to deal with the protein. She is extremely tired and works out pretty intense. She is currently high raw but with no protein. We'll have to keep each other posted on what's working for our bodies.

Thanks... Every now and then I go back to that blog. A new blog is currently underway which will involve my sister, a friend and I. They wanted to created a blog to talk about their raw journeys (both are attempting high raw living and well as focusing on weight loss). So we thought it would be nice to do a blog where they can post their pictures and we can do little short videos of recipes and have discussions about raw living in general. Hopefully, the blog will be ready next week.
Nope, I'm not a CSW yet. I am sick of school because I've had to adjust my income which affects my raw splurges:D . If I stick it out, I'll be finished in fall of 2009. I'll have to get by twin brother to take some pictures. I have always hated myself in pictures and so I don't take them. But I've got to get some updates....
Thanks for the praise!!!!!:)

nfracer - I have read that maca is supposed to be good for the adrenals. Also, do you juice? I see a HUGE difference in my energy level when I am drinking around 16 oz juice a day (heavy on the veggies). Most days recently I've been drinking 8 oz carrot and 8 oz apple/spinach/lemon and my energy has been soaring. But I also have been drinking about 48 oz. green smoothie most days. I try to get greens at every meal.
When I started this raw journey (I'm not totally new to raw, I was introduced way back in '94) I was feeling HUGE amounts of fatigue, needing 9-10 hours of sleep per night and not having any energy once I was out of bed. I was having unusual muscle and joint pain to the point I was getting worried there was something REALLY wrong, but I don't do doctors unless absolutely necessary. So, I started eating high raw in November and felt some better. Then after christmas my DH and I did a juice fast for 12 days and saw huge difference in how I felt. Since then I have been drinking at least 16 oz of juice most days and 48 oz. green smoothies in addition to eating raw and I truly believe it has made all the difference.
Sorry, I've rambled. The simple answer - JUICE :D .
No exercise for me today - Day off.

Well, after injuring BOTH knees at once yesterday, I'm hangin' in there, just doing things not involving my knees...lotsa stretching & weights...I can't even be on my feet more than a minute or 2...but I'm DETERMINED to not let this hinder my continuing to progress!!!
LavendarJ, I'd love to get the link to your blog, could you post it?
I FINALLY got my camera working again, so will hopefully be posting my before pics on my blog soon, & maybe even a video or two...woohoo! Been waiting a looooong time!
Good sources of protein? Nuts, of course....dark leafy greens...doesn't brewers yeast have some?
Keep goin' everyone! You're all progressing & improving your health every day you get out & move!!!
Off to do some more stretching, & use my big weight! & stretch on my physioball!
My back was sore last night, after I fell, so I had Hannah heat up my long heat bag, & I slept on it going up & down my spine!
It helped sooo much I think I'll do it every morning when I'm laying in bed stretching & waking up slowly! ( like I have to many days! Can't wait until I BOUND out of bed in the morning!!!)

A friend of mine loaned me a book "Sports Nutrition for Endurance Athletes" by Monique Ryan. It has chapters on triathon, swimming , running, cycling, mountan biking...etc.She gave this to me when I started training for my tri. Now mine was short however and i felt a lot of the info wasn't necessarily for me since I was not training for 2 and 3 hours + at a time. BUT it did have a lot of good info, specifically about hydration , nutrients for optimal performance and eating for recovery and performance. I got a lot out of this because I too knew that I was holding water and would gain 5-7 pounds over night....and then one day I would "unload" the water....semmingly every 30 minuts for 4-5 hours. I knew this was not right but noone seemed to be able to help. This book really helped this! I was not raw when I read this but there was info about being vegetarian. I think this would be an excellent resourse for you! and could help you with your food choices and the timing of them.
I have thyroid problems and have had adrenal fatigue (about 2 yrs ago).....if you ahve adrenal fatigue you REALLY can not get out of bed in the morning no matter how much sleep you have gotten, and when you work out, you actually feel WORSE than when you started. It is difficult to keep your eyes opened! And, sadly, Caffiene/coffee makes this conditin worse......I had to give it up. I totally LOVE coffee, the taste, the smell, the warmth....can't drink it .I went to a wholistic MD and was giving A LOT of supplements... I wsa taking a lot of B vitamins. I'm not taking them anymore, but prehaps I should. I do drink a GS everyday, somtimes twice a day and I always feel better with those.
Anyway, long enough, keep on trying, and I really recommend reading the book.
Anyway,

I just love you guys-so helpful!
fitme- I have Nancy Clark's "Sport's Nutrition Guidebook" that I just found on my bookshelf and will look through....not the same book you have but maybe it will help. If not I'll have to get the other. Thanks for the tips! Yeah, holding water stinks. I mean it's good for a run/race but psychologically on the scales it's  !!!! + the Bragg's amino's (soy) reaction didn't help! I feel much better today-but I also slept in and am FORCING a rest day on myself!!!! I usually swim today but I think considering my past few days I am officially calling today pajama day!!!!
Miah Tay- I appreciate your guidance too! I did start back on the maca last week and that does help! I also start my day with lotsa water....wait 30 minutes and juice....usually work out....then a huge green smooothie with lots of greens (sound familiar;) ) so I am leaning toward the supplements because I am eating properly but still lacking something. I actually purchased sublingual b-12 and a coldfusion v/m for ahem.... "women over 40" How funny is that......Of course I have my other things I started last week for the other issues. Now I feel like the supplement queen again, but if I feel better after all this who cares!!!!
Anastazia- YOU FELL??????? What were you doing???? Hope Hannah is taking good care of you!!!!

I didn't get a chance to post the other 8 minutes from yesterday - I ended up finishing up yesterday with 10 minutes of inner/outer thigh squeezes.
Today is Sunday, so nothing major for me. I am going to do 30 minutes of either pilates or this yoga-pilates fushion video.
By the way, on the protein front....I just wanted to add that I decided to try out this protein supplement ("raw power") that is supposed to be raw & vegan. It's a protein blend of hemp protein powder(seed), brazil nut protein, maca powder(root), goji berry powder, barley grass powder(whole leaf), mesquite powder (root), and maca powder (root extract). I'm going to try it out for two weeks (only yields 16 servings) doing it once a day in the mornings and see what happens energy-wise.
Have a Great Day!

I don't normally plan to exercise on Sunday HOWEVER ... I woke up this morning at 6:30 and got my house cleaning done so I had time. I decided since I DID have time I would push myself a little bit. I ended up doing an hour on the treadmill. Instead of walking 4 min. and running 1, I tried walking 10 and running 2 ... I did this for three running intervals then walked the rest of the hour. I ended up going 3.58 miles! YES! I know you all don't need all of this information, but I figure I'll share because there may be someone like me lurking about who has never exercised in their life, and I'm just excited :D .

O.K. If I don't rest, relax, and regroup I will go crazy! I am going to ((gulp)) commit to doing the master cleanse for the next "work week" at least. I am causing too much wear and tear on my body and if I don't step back and regroup I am afraid I will end up getting hurt. I am not sure how it will affect my workouts but I will focus on resting and rebuilding this week. My weight and bloating are too unpredictable right now and it will only end up hurting my performance in the big picture long run. I am not very good at sticking to fasts. Luckily for me I did not leave the house for groceries yesterday or today so I am practically "out" of my food anyway. :) I have organic lemons, cayenne and maple syrup/agave (preferences anyone?) so I am going to begin NOW....Yes, I have already eaten today but not since 1 and that will be the start of my fast.....I am starting a colonic series soon and want to be as ready for it as possible! So, if anyone wants to join me from this thread let me know. Otherwise, keep me focused - I'll need it!!!! I will stay on the fast until I get down to at most 145 pounds preferably 140 pounds.....I am off to sauna now!!!! ok, I put it in writing so now I must stick to it!!!!

Hello ! I finally took a min to catch up onm this thread. I have been continually busy, working and only getting 20 min of cardio/core training in a day. Tomorrow I bump to 30 min a day.
On your post above Di, I sympathise because I had a similar experience the other day. I weighed in 5 pound gain in one day !! I went from 122 to 127 overnight. I was perplexed how that can happen. I ate more sodium than usual but still in 3 days I have only dropped 2 of the 5 gained ! It is annoying ! I imagine the "chesse " was your culprit.
I have the Protein issue, but cannot stand the hemp and raw power drinks..ick. I just do lots of greens.
Well I was off to bed actually in bed and then remembered that I hadn't posted my exercise for sunday. So here I am -
35 minutes of rebounding, abs and inner thighs
Di - good luck on the master cleanse. I just finished a 10 day at the beginning of February and didn't get the results I was looking for. I think I did it too soon from the last one I did. Anyway I always use maple syrup and I have the energy to still exercise, work etc. I think you will be ok. You just may need to cut back a bit on the intensity of your workouts (especially if you are doing any weights).
I am back up in weight again too!:( It just seems like I just can't lose these last 10 pounds.

Hey there.... I think like Morn said, you should be okay for 1o days. I think your energy levels will change and that may or may not affect your stamina. I don't know if I'd take the supplements because if your cleansing then they are just going to get flushed out of you - probably. If you have to take something, make sure it's fast acting (like if it's an energy booster or something)..... Pay close attention to how you respond and what your body says to you.

I woke up at 4:30 a.m. I was going to do my new cardio video but for some reason my player didn't want to eject my older video. So nothing to do I ended up doing fit mama video which was stuck in my player. The video was nice and I broke sweat and relaxed in the end but that's not enough for me,need to do more, push, push myself.
Have to ask my hubby to help me ejecting that video and really hoping to do my new cardio video tomorrow. Plan to walk/run with my baby in stroller during lunch time which is my favorite time to get outside.
See you all tomorrow

Hi everyone ... well, I hit a bit of a snag this morning, our power was out until 11:20 this morning so that means no treadmill and no video, I should have gotten on the rebounder but didn't. However, on the up side ... my mom has offered to teach my children music on monday afternoons so she will have them from 3:30 until 6:00 when they come over for dinner. I am NEVER alone so this is a wonderful treat I can look forward to every other week. So, I was trying to figure out what I was going to do with my precious time ... hmmmm..... I am going to go for a walk BY MYSELF! This is such a huge thing for me because I am a recovering binge eater and if I had moments to myself before I would clean out the fridge :o . But not today! On a side note - my mom started the master cleanse yesterday, she is doing it for a week. She has just kicked the coffee habit. So today is her second day and she is feeling good. She said good energy level so she will continue to exercise lightly.
Have a GREAT day!

I DID IT! I could have took a nap, read a book, gone to Burger King, well you get the point ... but instead I CHOSE to go for a walk with my alone time! I walked for 1 hour! And I feel so good. Then I came home and made myself a chocolate smoothie - mmmm. I just keep reminding myself that every time I stand in the face of temptation I get stronger.
nfracer - how is your master cleanse going? The longest I had ever fasted for was 3 days until this past christmas my hubby and I decided to do a juice fast starting the day after christmas, he made it 3 days (his longest fast) and I made it 11. And one thing I found very strange is that after the third day you aren't hungry anymore - at all. So, if you make it past that third day you're home free. I'll let my mom know how you are doing and she is blogging this week documenting her experience. She has always been a good example to me and we came across RAW around the same time and have been sort of on again off again for the last almost 15 years and this time I have had the opportunity to introduce HER to a few things :D . But now that my hubby and children are on board, I see no reason to ever be off again.

Hi ,everyone!
Congrats on the weight loss, Heather! Weigh to go!!!
I've been really making myself get up & move more, I know that I can't let my sore knees slow me down, so I've been doing more weights, stretching, leg lifts, etc. & am trying to be on my feet more...they're feeling better today than I expected, tomorrow I may try to get on the rebounder again for a little while, see how they handle it...
I'll be praying for your success with the MC, NFRacer! You CAN do it!!! Push past the first 3 days & you'll see clear sailing ahead!
I wish I could join you, but have a fridge FULL of produce & don't want it to go to waste!!! Soon, though, I'll either do the MC or a juice fast! I need to get the scale moving in the right direction again, it seems stuck in major SLOOOOOOOOW motion!
My friend Shannon (Ireland here on RFT) got the Bean that I wrote about the other day (exercise equip) & she didn't like it, sent it back! I was soooo dissapointed! But the thnigs she didn't like about it may not bother me, so I think I'll still order it & try it anyways...at least they even refund the shipping, AND pay for you to send it back...
I'm still fully convinced that walking is the most natural, healthiest form of exercise around, & I'm determined to get going for regular walks! (Healther, your post today really inspired me, thanks!)
I'm getting really excited about the 5K! It seems so impossible, but I know I can do it if I just get CONSISTANT!
Off to go do some dishes (standing up! No more sitting when I do them, even if I can't be on my feet long...doesn't it seem silly, sitting to do dishes? Can't wait till I can even stand at the counter to cut up all my produce, & not have to sit for any food prep!

Ok, I feel like I can take a minute and respond to this better. My dad was sitting next to me and I felt like I was ignoring him. One of the things I found from my fast was that I came away with much fewer cravings. Also, my mom let me know that she lost 3 lbs. the first day!
To answer your question - if my kids are raw. I have sort of a weird family situation. It's my husband, 2 children (8) and (11) and me, then for dinner every night my parents come over. My parents aren't even vegetarian but do try to eat healthy. I have raised my children vegetarian their whole lives and my husband and I have been pretty much vegetarian for the last 12 or so years with spurts of raw thrown in. So, I started the transition back to raw as of Nov. 1, Dec. 26, hubby jumped on board with our fast. So since Nov. 1, I have been incorporating more raw into my children's diet and as of Feb. 1 they gave up sugar and their cooked lunch. I had already been feeding them smoothies for breakfast most days. Dinner has been the tricky meal for me to navigate and keep everyone happy but what I do is just have a big salad bar with a little something cooked and my parents and my kids seem to be happy with this. So, everyone is happy. I know, probably more information than you wanted but I find it helpful when other people share what works for them so here is what works for me :) .
Also, you are such an encouraging person if there is anything I can do to encourage you - I want to. Thanks for all you do.
Anastazia - you remain in my prayers, the Lord has brought you to my thoughts a lot the last couple of days. I'm glad to hear your already feeling some better from your fall. I was also thinking a recombant (sp) exercise bike might be a good option for cardio and not having to necessarily be on your feet. I bet you could find a second hand one fairly inexpensive. It was just a thought and I figured it couldn't hurt to share.

So reporting on yesterday: I did walk/run during lunch but since I didn't have a good breakfast I felt like I had to drug myself when it came to running but I kept pressing on.
Today:
I did my new video called The Firm and it is hard. It had me sweating like crazy and I wasn't doing it all yet because I didn't want to over do it. She has a really nice set of dump bells which i don't have and I don't know how I am going to do without them. Also she uses a bench which i don't have yet. So I have to get myself a set of dump bells and a bench for step aerobics. Over all I really like the video and hope it will help me loose my extra fat and loose some pounds. I really want to look my best for summer and always.
so question, does anyone know where I can get a nice set of dump bells?

Mia, you are so lucky that your mom is supporting you in raw food. I wish my mom would even be slightly interested. When I make new food I usually give some to her but I don't think she likes it but my dad tries everything. And get this someone told her that she should avoid bananas as they may give her extra calories. I was like what? And she is trying to loose weight but no progress so far because she is a big addict of SAD food. Sorry, for rumbling here.

This is one of the reasons videos bother me ... they expect that everyone has the equipment they do. I am also not very coordinated and don't have a lot of room to be running, jumping, dancing, etc. inside the house. Pretty much stuck with mat type workouts inside or my treadmill or rebounder. The next thing I would really like to get is a bike ... but I told my hubby until there is room in the garage I don't want one because I see what has happened to his and the kids from sitting outside. Sorry, got sidetracked ... you can get dumb bells even a Wal-mart.

Got my kickin' foot ready!!! Hey, If I have to eat this "spicy lemonade" for 10 days you best be bustin' yer you know what! I am in it till day 10 (I think) or 140 pounds, whichever comes first!!!! ((Hopefully 140 pounds! But we'll see!) I did 30 minutes on the trainer + ran 6 miles and sauna for 20 minutes. Scaling down about 20% to "save my energy" OK, the salt water flush to start the day...Is that for "pipe cleaning"? If so, it worked! I think today I will lose my excess paunch! I feel better today than yesterday and am getting so much school work done! We have winter break next week (no school) so that will be tough to make it through Wednesady! I didn't excercise much in the past few months - i started yesterday - i am in new gym now. Not sure how to set the goals - maybe to start slowly - 40 minutes of cardio 4 times a week and 40 minutes of weights 3 times a week.
If i will be able to have yoga with the group it would be perfect.
I also want to swim - but i will add it later - in March.

Yep, pipe cleaning. When you are not consuming fiber your body is still throwing off toxins and dead cells and fat but has no way to move it out of the colon without fiber - that's where the salt water flush comes in .... it's ....er ... um .... incredible, isn't it?

WOW - your slow is incredible! I chose to set my bar REALLY low so that it is easy to accomplish my minimum goal and most days I do more than my goal. This makes me feel like I've really accomplished something big. My goal for this month is to exercise a minimum of 30 minutes a day 5 days a week. I had basically not exercised AT ALL since the beginning of October. Best of luck and welcome!

Hey Heather...
I'm glad someone thinks these exercises are interesting. For some reason, I get bored after a few weeks and this is week three. My goal this month was just about putting in the minutes - 60min exercise/day. Next month, I think I may focus on endurance like building my way up do jogging (I think I'll start out with those jog/walk intervals on the treadmill next month) It seems I'm always trying to figure out what makes me tick...I think I like goals that focus on increasing strength and endurance versus minutes...we'll see

Still doing BFL. Its going *really* well. Last week I did cardio high intensity intervals for 30 min, and then I did 3 weightlifting sets with upper-lower-upper body reps.
Yesterday I did 30 min of interval cardio, and did about 45 min weight lifting for upper body. I will do cardio today, and cardio plus lower body weights tomorrow. BFL says to switch it up (so Monday and Friday of week one do upper body weights, and Wednesday do lower, and on week 2 do Mon and Fri lower body and Wednesday upper body) but my legs are sore from riding my bike this weekend, so I'm going to do the Week 1 schedule 2 weeks in a row. I figure if I'm doing cardio every day it should make up for it...
This is a great thread. I love reading about what everyone else is doing to stay fit! I haven't exercised much recently, although I was exercising when I traveled a lot for work last year (the hotel gyms are really nice and almost always empty). But recently I had just been doing Tai Chi, and it wasn't giving me the definition and fat loss that I need. I have my bellydance classes on Wednesdays still, but I plan to work out in the gym after that as well, as I think I've hit a plateau with how much bellydance helps with my weight.

Wow! You are working out and doing the MC? Do you feel a decrease in energy? I want to do the MC, but I feel the need to workout is so pressing for me (at least for the next few months- want to finish my 12 week BFL challenge) I am afraid to do the MC until afterward.
Good for you! I know you'll make 140.

Trust me, a faster I am NOT. If I can do it anyone can! The longest I have ever made it is 2 1/2 days.....gulp....so today is day 3 and I feel that I will make it! I still feel somewhat inflammed from whatever "reaction" I had last week so that is actually helping me stay focused because I haven't really been too hungry YET...just the cravings and habits! Yesterday I had to get groceries (the family still has to eat I guess:rolleyes: ) and was salivating over the cantaloupe! I didn't buy any fruit except bananas and grapes for the kids because I do not want/need them in the house right now! I am so bad! Hey, out of sight out of mind! The a.m. salt water flush amazes me! ewww and wow at the same time!
So far I have had enough energy to run. If I don't I will walk or use the trainer. It's really important for me to complete this fast to "readjust" myself physically and emotionally. I still have a ways to go to get to my 140 goal. The cleanse may be just the right length for that so I am focused so far!!! My family knows I am doing it so they are supportive too! That helps! I am going to do the trainer and treadmill + sauna again this a.m. right now as a matter of fact.;) Have a great day!

Heather
You are so right about the videos, they do expect that everyone has the equipment they do. Hey I am not very coordinated too but I just keep trying to do my best. I am the kind of person who likes company(friends) when I workout that's why I want to find a group aerobic class. So far haven't found a good one but keep looking.
Having a bike would be very good idea, I will tell my hubby to get one for my b-day.

I can't do aerobics to save my life. kudos to those of you who can. I like cardiokickboxing though.....
The bikes at walmart and target are pretty good for the money if you are on a budget.
I like the excercise cords for my indoor at home lifting workout. I also do yoga..if you do it right you will be wiped out! We have a crummy weather day here in NY, I will be riding my bike indoors and doing yoga and cords since I can't get my swim in. :p
Side topic...anyone here have asthma? Mine has improved so much! Its amazing!

Dumbells - you could use some canned items (soup, tomatoes, beans etc..) a gallon of water weighs 8#. I just went to amazon.com and found a ton of equipment.
also if you are just starting out, I would skip the dumbells until you can get though the whole tape. Just doing the excercises with your hands works! New muscles need to be broken in gently. Glad you found something challenging and that you want to keep doing! Go for it!

Today there will be no major workout as my body is very sore from yesterday workout. I just did some stretching and relaxing the muscles. Later on I will do 45 minutes of walking/running. Tomorrow I will be back to my cardio video.
Awesome! Rememeber to do your walking & running, go easy on the running if you are still too sore. Just walking is great. This is called "active recovery" and it is MUCH more effective than sitting on your tush. I would do your tape tomorrow, but do it gently. This sort of stuff takes 2 days to work out of your system. Drink more water too. It will help to flush out the lactic acid.
You are doing great!

Well, I don't know but I think the honeymoon is over - LOL! I must have been going on sheer enthusiasm last week because everything seems harder this week! But I think it's harder mentally not physically. So, I got on the treadmill this morning and walking seemed hard - PLEASE! So, I told myself that I knew I could do it physically because I did it last week. I started my intervals walk 4 minutes/run one minute and for the first 15 minutes I was hating life. Then I thought - MUSIC! I had my son come in and turn on the cd player (I will be more prepared tomorrow and do it myself and have the remote on the treadmill). Everything became easier and I actually added an interval!
Workout for today:
35 minutes interval walking/running
10 minutes walking cool down
50 modified push ups
Stretching
I FEEL GREAT!
nfracer - you are doing great! I told my mom yesterday that day three was my hardest day of the fast I did in January. She is on day 4 of the MC and seems to be doing very well with it.

Heather-you're doing great!
Today is day 3 and I am actually feeling better not worse. See, whatever flare up I had (bragg's reaction?) over the week end is just now working itself out of my system. I had major IBS prior to raw and I think the soy (I can't seem to tolerate gluten, dairy, soy) brought on old issues. My entire body was inflammed and bloated. Major edema. I was too embarrassed to admit it before but my weight on Monday morning was 159.5 :( which is higher than when I even started raw....well yesterday and this morning I have been releasing so much fluid my weight is already down to 148.5-still about 5-10 pounds higher than my norm but isn't it amazing how much our bodies can hold onto when in crisis. My mood is sooooo much better. I was beginning to feel helpless! I had some major stress in my life that has also been lifted in the past couple of days so that helps. I still can't believe the weight fluctuation but wanted to (sheepishly) share it in the event anyone else ever finds themselves in this situation! I am actually LOVING this cleanse and feel better each day rather than worse! I have MORE energy! We'll see how long that lasts as my weight stabalizes but so far so good!

Hey Everyone!
I'm just now getting a chance to check in...
15 min Good Morning Energizers
5 min warming up on ellipticals
20 min strength training at gym
(inner thighs/quads/back/chest)
15 min total body strength training
Oh I just realized that I only did 55 minutes technically... okay I'm going to dance like a fool to a favorite song for five minutes nonstop and that should take care of my 60 min/day goal

Having music or TV or Something when you are inside is critical! I have changed my whole plan and even gone home to get my headset if I had forgotten it and now I even carry an extra battery in my bag....It is serious business!!!!! For some reason when I'm outside I don't need it and just get lost in the scenery, no matter how many times I have past it
Today, I ran 30 minutes on the treadmill and then did an hour on the bike (while watching Oprah:) and a little bit more) and I felt GREAT today!:D
Looking forward to tomorrow!

Tried to do some rebounding this morning, after my smoothie...my knee started throbbing, & cracking really loudly & painfully every time I sit or stand...it's been doing it ALL DAY! SO I've just been doing exercise that deosn't involve bending...I'm getting a little concerned...I thought they were both almost totally better...
...I SOOOO long to get going with an almost daily walking program!!! Suddenly (now that I can't walk at all!) it makes me more determined than ever to be able to walk LOTS!
...we've had some gorgeous sunny days (yup, still have snow, but still feels like spring!!! My favorite season!!!) & I'm determined to not be hindered this year when the sun is shining & hannah wants us to go out & play...
...the good news is, the scale's finally moving again! That was nice to wake up to...even though I only had 3 & a half hours sleep again! No napping today, going to bed at 10, & STAYING on an early schedule!!!
Hope you all have a rawesome night, & excellent weekend!
~Anastazia~
THis week has been a pretty weird week schedule wise. Monday school got canceled due to snow so I stayed home with the kids, did car research and went in at night and worked into the morning Tuesday. CAme home got 3 hours sleep, dropped off kids went back into work and worked a 14 hour day yesterday. Got 3 hours sleep last night worked today, ran kids to rehearsals, helped with valentines, etc. I am exhausted because I have only gotten 6 hours of sleep in the last few days. However, I pushed myself and did 45 minutes tonight and just finished. Now I am off to bed. Hopefully to get at least 5-6 hours tonight. :)

All I can say is URRRRGGGGG, I am working 8 am to ....midnight....last night...till 2:30 am ! What can I say except my work outs are suffering. I am doing well on the diet side though. I am skinny fat !
NF RAcer - hope your fasting is still going well. AFter the 3rd day it is usually smooth sailing. I am never hungry when I do the master cleanse and if I drink a liter a day in lemonade I am lucky. Couldn't take the SWF - too horrid tasting to me so I relied on the laxative tea. When you get down to your lowest expect to gain back around 5 pounds back within the weeks following.

Good morning all!
Morn and RF-Get some rest! You are BOTH burning the candle at both ends! Don't forget to rest and recharge ao you don't crash and burn!!!! (been there!) I am sending you both a valentine hug and prayer!
Lavendar-You just keep rockin' I am impressed!
Fitme-You are flyin' with the training! I do the bike first and then the tm...I find it wakes me up better at this hour....Although with doing the MC I am "going with the flow" on the workouts depending how I feel. So far so good.
Today is day 4 so my inflammation is finally gone from my food reaction. Now I guess it's down to the serious cleansing! I actually like the taste of the "lemonade" and don't mind the swf. I am also having kombucha in the a.m. and at night-kinda my treat + I think it helps. It warms my tummy and feels like it's scrubbing the walls of my internal organs if that makes any sense to anyone. I do like the extra time and less stress this non-eating allows me! I have had more planning/work time at school and spent less $ this week on "my food!" It is also helping me clean out and use things up. I am even cooking more for the family! I actually think I may be able to do this....10 days still seems like a LONG time but I am taking it 1 day at a time and want to get to my goal of 140 so I have a ways to go!!!!
Glad everyone is doing well!
Anastazia-Your knees are still bothering you from the fall or th FM? I think I missed something.....Take care of yourself! You too are in my thoughts and prayers!

It was nice to go through my whole circuit instead of piecing it together all week! Perhaps I will swim tomorrow...we'll see

Good Morning! Feeling good today. Hubby is doing a 3 day juice fast so we started the day juicing carrots, apples, lemons, spinach and grapefruit. Then I got on the treadmill - got my 5 days in this week already! Also this morning my dd figured out how to get the top in the Vita-Mix so she is excited she can make her smoothie without help. Sheesh ... my bird is being a big distraction he keeps grabbing my arm so I stop typing - animals are so funny!
nfracer - my mom is doing great on her MC, today is day 5 for her and she is only doing 7 so she is almost there. Ok, now my bird is trying to unfold my ear, he is being such a pest.
Exercise for today:
30 minutes treadmill intervals 4 min/ 1 min
15 minutes treadmill walking
50 pushups
15 crunches
Stretching
Have a GREAT day!

I just realized you are in Sarasota. We lived in Port Charlotte/Englewood and Bradenton for 16 years prior to moving up here to North Georgia 2 years ago! My in-laws still live in Bradenton. They have adopted a high raw diet since my FIL had a heart attack last September.

Miah Tay-glad to see you are able to post again! I was worried your bird had attacked you!:D What kind of bird (dd wants to know-I LOL when I was reading your post and she heard me!) Tell your mom I am sailing AOK one day behind her! I see she is an author! I am impressed as that is a "someday" dream/goal of mine!
Thank you everyone for keeping me motivated to do this cleanse and see it through! I am starting to feel the results! I think the kombucha + lemonade keep me from getting too weak, etc...However, my run this a.m. became a walk as I stated earlier....And my pep talk to me was cleanse first exercise later....It is important for me to finish the cleanse even if it means scaling back on the workouts for a week. I think I'll come back faster! (and lighter!)
Happy Valentine's day! I survived my day with 5 year olds! TG tomorrow is Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My bird is a Blue and Gold Macaw. He is just a year old and he thinks I'm his mother - lol. I hand fed him from 9 1/2 weeks old. He is spoiled and keeps me smiling. Yep, my mom is an author I believe she started actively writing when she turned 50, she is now doing it full time and has her second novel coming out soon (it's in final editing).
You are doing great, I feel like I'm surrounded by people fasting right at the moment ... you, my mom and now my hubby starting today. Life is interesting. I am considering doing a longer juice fast in May.
I know you talk about school ... are you a teacher? 5 year olds scare me - lol!

OK, Day 5...I am not really hungry at all on the MC but COULD NOT run and didn't even try! A 5 mile walk on the treadmill was good enough for me...as is an energetic day at school! We are on winter break next week so today is quite busy. Yes, MiahTay, I am a teacher. I have a K-1 special education class. I LOVE IT! But, exhausting is a good word to describe it. You have to be "on your game" and "upbeat" all day and by FRIDAY after a busy week, I'm POOPED...early bedtime tonight and I am "allowing" myself a sleep-in tomorrow and maybe even Sunday to assist my body in the healing cleanse process. I do feel better though-lighter and getting back to "normal." Next week I begin my colonic series too so that will "finish up the job" I guess...OK, sorry-TMI....but we're all friends here right?
Glad to see the workouts are all going well. Keepit up!

Hey Heather,
I like to start the day off with the "good morning energizers" workout by Kevin Gianni. I just describe them as simple movements that are aimed at energizing the body and boosting flexibility. They are a good way for me to wake my body up early in the morning and lead into some more challenging stuff. They are a little bit longer than 10 minutes and I do some extras of the last two types. Here is the link:
http://www.liveawesome.com/public/381.cfm
He also had a "10 minutes unlimitted power" and a "10 minutes after lunch blues buster". The unlimitted power is pretty good. I have a whole folder of exercise that I can do at home saved in "my favorites" for times when I can only get 15 or 20 minutes of exercise in at a time (used to get frustrated when I couldn't get everything I planned done at the gym cause of rushing and so I finally got to the point now to where it's okay if I get 20 minutes in the morning have another 15 mid-day and then another 20/30 of something else in later in the evening)

Okay my sister and I challenged ourselves to push extra hard on today and tomorrow before the big weigh-in on Sunday (our version of Biggest Loser's "last chance" workout) So in addition to the other post.
20 min High/Low impact video (video was 40 minutes or so but I got bored)
40 min BodySculpt2 video (finally, I felt a real challenge today)
Okay, that's it... I think we are going to take my nieces and nephew to a laser tag amusement/game sort of place. It's like a reward for them doing well in school and making the honor roll again. Being a divorce' and single mom now, my sis doesn't get to do everything she would like to do for the kids. We are trying to do at least 1 family-related fun event. Anyway, if I decide to do the laser tag, I'll check back in again with the kids...

Ok, this is my last time checking in - I promise -
I just got back from laser tag. I wasn't sure how I felt about it (the whole gun thing) but I must admit it was great fun. There were lots of parents and kids in the laser tag arena. It was 2 rounds of 40 intense and sweaty minutes of fun. In addition, my sister and I challenged each other on one of those dancing machines where you have to follow their cues. We played against each other, the loser had to go home and do an additional 10 minutes of exercise. So....I have 10 minutes of exercises to do (either tonight or I might tag them on to tomorrow's workout)....
Laser tag is fun!

Feeling' a little defeated...
...I had a dream last night where I was sitting on the couch, staring at my rebounder, hurting all over, & crying...
...Then { } Olivia Newton John came bouncing into my livingroom with her little bodysuit & legwarmer outfit from the 80's, singing at the top of her lungs...
"...Let's get physical, physical!" & then I looked, & it was YOU, Nfracer!!!
I woke up laffing & crying & soooo frustrated at my dumb achey-breaky knees & my FM all-over flare-up I'm trying every day to push through, but can barely walk, can barely get up & down without them cracking & burning with pain...it even hurts to lay in bed!
I go to sleep in pain & wake up in pain & just want to go live in a hottub...anyone got one to rent?
I need a 2 or 3 or 4 hour massage...
...& chocolate....
...& Nfracer to come visit, dancing into my livingroom...
{...bring your legwarmers!}
Ok, you can stop laffing now.
I'm going to go have a hot bath & crawl into bed,
& try to not take a painkiller.:(
