I was just reading this book and Victoria said that we need a vita-mixer because regular mixers will NOT burst the plant cell. And we WONT get the benefits.
So is it pointless to drink green shakes if this is true? i cannot afford a vita mixer and now I am a little unsure about greens.

I don't know...I can't afford one either, and want one, but haven't read her book. But the way I tend to decide things is...if I was walking in the woods somewhere, surviving like an early human, would this add up? And since vitamixers don't grow on trees, I think it would be unfair for 'God' to put us in a situation where we couldn't attain maximum health with the resources nature provides.
That being said, I have no logical argument against how we would otherwise burst plant cells...if chewing isn't good enough, or any argument on wether we really need to...I feel like I might be missing a lot of technical information if it were up for debate.
Soooo that's my 3 cents.

It's not that chewing isn't good enough.... we are no longer our "primative" selves, not accoustomed to eating greens like we used to. So to get us in better health quicker and because we are modernized, the use of a Vita-Mix ( or any high-speed blender for that matter ) breaks down the cellular wall of greens quicker than we can digest them, therefore allowing us to recieve maximum nutrients in an instant.
There are lots of folks on this forum who do not have a Vita-Mix and still make green smoothies. Just remember you may have to process a little longer to make sure all the greens have been blended.
If your local library has the book I highly recommend checking it out. It's well worth the read.

Perhaps the Vitamix is the ideal, but I am definitely feeling results using my Osterizer blender. I do still have to chew tough greens like kale a bit. On this topic, any ideas or opinions about oxidation? I read that too much grinding can actually damage the good things in greens and cause oxidation.
I recently read the same book as well. It was an informative and fun read. Before I was anti-blenders. Now I understand why we might need one for making green juice.
I wouldn't go to the extent that it would be pointless to use another blender to make green juices in the meantime (there's got to be some benefit versus not having any greens at all) & save up for a vitamix.
