I don't know about in the States but in Canada we have these lotteries where the tickets cost a hundred bucks each and you have a high chance of winning, like 1 in 10...and the money goes towards researching whatever...there is the cancer lottery, the heart and stroke assoc. quite a number actually...as they are a huge hit here. For all these research hospitals.

And it occured to me that even though the pamphlet says stuff like, thanks to last years lottery this machine was developed or that...but I really wonder if we are actually supporting animal testing.

Do you have these lotteries in the states? They've only been around in Canada for around 5 years or so.
And if so, do you think or know if it's ethically wrong to buy them?
Especially since another thread is talking about the pros of western medicine?

I haven't heard of anything like that here in the states. On that note, I don't pay much attention to the health care system here.

I understand what you mean. I have a friend that runs marathons in aid of cancer research and I find it difficult to support her financially because I think that the research is just to sell new drugs.
If someone wants to research the benifits of the raw diet in fighting cancer I will be willing to make a donation.
