View Full Version : Can you OD on raw foods?

Holy cow! I just realized that I have eaten an entire bunch of bananas today - probably 5, maybe 6?!! I've been snowed in today, and couldn't go to the store to restock on oranges and other fruits, and despite my big green smoothie, my big salad, and a ton of flax seed crackers (can you OD on those, too?), apparently, I've been pulling a couple of pieces of banana from the dehydrator here and there all day long, and I just pulled the last few!! Am I going to pay for this the way I used to pay for over-indulging in cooked food?? I guess I still need to work on food issues, even when eating raw!!

bananas are sooo healthy for you -- but make sure you drink lots of water so you don't get constipated!!! :D

In her video, Alissa says she'd eat 6 bananas, or 15 oranges in a sitting too when she first started. And that your body will adjust w/ time, but compared to the huge amount of calories you were taking in before raw, you're not eating as much as you think.
I still eat a ton of food too, just different types (decided to start raw on Jan 7. But haven't yet been 100% more than 2 or 3 days) so still brand new too.
I DO have issues if I eat too much flax, but maybe that's just me / my body adjusting..... I'd say just listen to your body, eat when you're hungry, and if eating lots of flax, bananas, whatever doesn't make you feel bad, then go with. Whatever's working for you right now.

Aw, see? There's Star, always looking out for everyone!;)

As for you, Tracey, ha ha, you ARE right...the food issues still stick around! Although, on raw, you're definitely eating a million times better, I think that overindulgence in ANY type of food is not the greatest thing. I've dealt with this myself, so you're definitely not the only one. If it keeps you raw, I mean, by all means, eat away, but I think if you try to listen to when you're ACTUALLY hungry, you'll find it gets easier to stay away from the dehydrator!!:D Good luck!

thanks you guys! So far, so good! I'll down an extra quart of water, though, just in case, LOL! And, hubby is home from work now and says he'll take me to town tonight to get some more food, before the next snow wave hits us this evening! I think once the baby gets here, I will have a lot less time on my hands to think about food and it will help my tendency to snack too much, LOL!

I would say yes. I for one experienced this yesterday. I ate entirely too many nuts on Sunday and come Monday morning at 4am i was in the bathroom foreverrrrrrrrr. I couldnt even go to work because my stomach was so mad at me. This happens with me when I OD on raw food bars too, which I have been doing a lot lately:( and it sucks. I am so like fatigue and not in the mood to do anything. Raw may be healthier but yes as some others have said it does NOT cure ODing on food:(

It's not uncommon to hear of people eating so many bananas. I just had to WAY to much onion bread... I won't be having anymore of that today.

I remember learning in health class when I was a kid that a person can get too much of a certain vitamin and it can cause diseases. I can't remember specific vitamins, probably A or E or something. Anyway, I just remember my teacher talking about being careful about your vitamin intake because you can actually overdose. I'm pretty sure that's just rubbish, since I've been raw for 7 months you'd think I'd have OD'd on something by now. It's amazing what they teach kids in schools! And I don't even know WHAT they served us for lunch, some kind of manufactured chicken meat and carrots sauteed in butter and salt, but too many vitamins? watch out!

I agree with you they are talking about getting to many vitamins when majority of the food they serve in in schools are lacking nutrition. I think I have been hearing that some schools are trying to server healthier food but it's still cooked.

I know that they say the bananas we eat are not natural and if they were they would have seeds in them, I wonder how bad the bananas we eat are compared to the bananas that actually have the seeds in them? I wonder if the ones with the seeds taste different.

I'm part of the "snowed-in" club as well - also in Vancouver, BC.

Not trying to get this thread off on a snowed-in tangent, but I seem to go through phases of food OD. Just yesterday I must have ate like 20 dates when normally I only have one or two a day. Sometimes I'll eat 5 or 8 apples or oranges a day as well. I think the old adage of "listen to your body" applies. Just go with it... if you're craving lots of one thing then do it! Your body knows best, don't fight it.
