Hey rawbies -- anyone out there taking Theraputic Enzymes? I started taking 1/4 teaspoon 3 x a day. I have noticed that ...

I am sleeping better :)
I'm breaking out in a rash on my tummy  :( !! detox?? hmmm...???

also... when I was in Maine my lips became SEVERLY Chapped. They are so sore and swollen - I've been using coconut oil -- cocobutter - shea butter... and they are still very swollen and dry, chapped and they hurt really bad!

well... I know one thing for sure - I'll never get my lips 'plumped up'!! I always wanted fuller lips and now that I have them --- I feel like a duck! QUACK....

any suggestions for what I can put on my lips? I'm beginning to wonder if I should use good old fashioned chapstick....

Wow Star,

those are usually the things that heal the chapped lips. Are you drinking enough agua.... I only get chapped when I've been slacking on the water yet eating a lot of citrus. Try some aloe vera at night to help them heal while you sleep.

I've used the enzymes from Alissa's store...didn't have any detox symptoms that were noticeable on the outside. I just noticed how I had an easy transition with digestion of heavy/dehydrated foods. Which enzymes are ya using?

Starfire, I know the therapeutic enzymes are very strong so they can definitely bring on some major detox.

As to your lovely chapped lips, my simple guess is that you got a dose of very dry and cold New England weather which does a real number on skin. Lips are so sensitive anyway they react quickly. A few thoughts...

1. ditch the coconut oil and try chapstick (why not?) for a few days
2. stop the enzymes for a few days and see if it has any effect on your lips/rash on stomach

DocSharp was talking about those enzymes on some thread.

How's it going post-lovefest in Maine with the rawteachers? I had such a blast last year - I'm still in touch with those folks!

The lips thing seems to happen a lot as part of detox from what I gather from my experience and the posts I have read.
any suggestions for what I can put on my lips?I used Cortizone 10 ointment, over the counter from my local neighborhood drug store. I put it on my lips just before going to bed and it helped.

I'm pretty sure chapstick creates a dependancy on chapstick...I heard vaseline is the best to use, not that it heals, it protects...allowing it to heal...and stay away from citrus untill your healed....and it may sound weird but if you're not eating or drinking at the time...soak em in polysporin,
...and whatever you do...DON'T LICK YOUR LIPS! :P

Burt's Bee products have a wonderful lip balm. I'm sure it's not raw but it is a natural product line. My reccomendation would be lots of water and burt's bee lip balm.....my whole family likes the lip balm, we just get the original kind, in the little yellow tin but I'm sure the stuff in the tube is good too. Oh, by the way it lasts a long time. It will help protect you lips so they have a chance to heal and it also has healing properties to it. LOL....Judith:)

as someone who faces the cold dry weather yearly-
i find what helps is drinking water, eating coconut oil, lip balm
and most importantly....
cut down on your stress level - that matters the most.

angelina starfire!!! snow - you crack me up or is that quack me up!!!

okay -- I haven't had chapped lips in over 8 years... so I'm SURE it's from the weather in Maine...

thanks for all the tips -- I'm trying not to lick my lips -- but they are just sooo sore... I don't think I've ever had chapped lips like this before!

I will try your tips and my lips will be back to their tropical selves before I know it... (uhhh... right??? !!!)

the theraputic enzymes are digestive enzymes and cleansing enzymes. They also get rid of toxins in the body. I'm thinkin the rash is from that - cuz I just started the enzymes and the rash started 2 days later -- so if it is detox -- I'll ride it out and see what happens.

I don't think it's from food - cuz I'm not eating anything different than I have eaten the entire time I've been raw... so - I'm thinking it may have hit a new layer of toxins deep in my body (I'm hopin anyway!) I would love to get all those poisons out of my body that I have polluted myself with for the past 51 years!! now that would be rawkin cool!

thank for all your input everyone! oh and btw... I know snow will crack up at this but -- my lips were sooo swollen I couldn't even eat properly -- I kept biting the inside of my lips -- so now I have bite marks all over inside my lips... sigh..... oh the trauma!!! (lol!)

The cortisone cream usually works for me. It will stop the inflammation almost immediately. For the lips that is. Don't know about the enzymes.
