Deberaw,

This looks soooo good. I went looking for the recipe in "Living On Live Food" and found a chocolate cake recipe on page 511. Is this the recipe you used for the cake and iciing?

p.s. My little sis has a b-day coming up in two weeks and she LOVES chocolate. Please let me know asap if this is the recipe you used so that I can make this for her. Thanks!

Hey Walnutty! ...This is the "Grezzo Chocolate Fudge Cake"...Alissa's, but not in her book....you can find it if you search it in this forum.....now, I used a blender for the frosting....made it smoother....and I made the base in a round shape using my plastic date container as a mold...it is low and round and wide....I just packed the base ingredients in tight and flipped it over! It is even better the next day, so make it a day ahead! Enjoy....sooo delicous!:D

Walnutty,
I think she used the recipe on the Boston Herald article announcing the opening of Grezzo. Here's the link:

I made it too, and it was UNbelievable!!!!
Enjoy and let yourself be whisked away to chocolate heaven :D

So today is hubby's b-day and I made this for him. All I can say is YUM! It's kinda funny bc/ I really had to remind myself that this was raw and vegan and I could eat it! I am so use to seeing all the "goodies" at parties and not really considering them food. Thanks again Alissa!

P.S. I made the recipe X6 and formed it in a springform then took it out and frosted it. Our friends thought it was a baked cake by the way it looked!

Okay people who have made it, how big is it/how many will it feed?
I'm thinking of using this as the groom's cake for my wedding in two days. There will be about 20 of us and there will be lots of other foods too. Should I double, triple, quadruple? Thanks!
PS I do see that it says "serves 4" but with other foods/desserts too, how many do you think it would work for?

Not sure if I have cacao, but if I do have the bits could I grind them?

If I need to buy cacao, is it sold in bulk?

Gosh, I see I need pecans too so a trip to the store for that as well.

Thanks for sharing results.

My 40th anniversary is around the corner so maybe I need to make this a "sweet" anniversary. I need to figure out a red, for love, icing now! Maybe strawberries would do it. Other suggestions welcome for the red icing please.

Thanks.

I just wanted to wish you a very happy 40th. My husband and I just celebrated our 22nd yesturday!!:D

I don't know how this would work, but maybe use beet juice for red food coloring?

carolg

RRose,
Congrat. to you too. Time sure flies. I am thinking too "beet powder" or even sliver of beet may give me a pink color but not red. Still working on figuring out the "love color--red."

Thanks.

In the Whole Soy yogurt I use to buy I think the coloring listed for the strawberry flavor was beet and an old baker friend of mine use to use beets or strawberries as food colorings. Also try cherries?

Rrose

You can also buy the natural red food coloring made with beets from Whole Paycheck (uh, I mean, Whole Foods). Just use more for the deeper color red you are looking for is my guess. I can't think of any other fruit or veggie besides strawberries that are red, except for goji berries, but they are sorta pink, aren't they?

Violet,
It's going to be strawberries but believe also cherries can do the "bleeding of love" trick.

RRose, thanks too. WF gets enough of my money without having to give them more. They are all over my area! I can't believe the difference in herb pricing too from WF and locally Sunflower Markets. Amazing so go there for last minute stuff.

WHOA! This looks seriously amazing! I'm a chocolate fiend that has yet to try making raw cacao desserts(I'm still a little skittish about extremely high calories and fats in the desserts!)

I finally made this last night! Put it in the fridge to cool and had a piece for breakfast with a glass of cold almond milk. I used a 1 qt. glass bowl and cut it into 8 pieces...it is delicious but very rich.

I see cacao is necessary ingredient. Is it sold in bulk or in bag? I just think only use I would have for it would be the continuous making of this cake. Thanks.

I may have some cacao bits around here so I assume I can grind them up in my blender????????? Just trying to use what I have here if I even have it. Thanks all.

Thanks for Alissa site. May have to do that another time as I want it NOW, NOW and NOW. I'm sure it is here local or I can find some from friends if need to get some stash right away. I'm thinking if such a hit as others say, then I need to be introduced to cacao quickly. I love fast recipes so not much waiting is my kind of "UNcooking". Also search for Raw Birthday Cake by google or maybe I posted here. It is fabulous and my friend gave it to me for birthday. Bundt pan is key to the Birthday Cake. I got two pans from thrift store so now I just need to make the cake and have the ingredients too. Just haven't been in the mood for this yet. It is also super rich but addicting.

Hi Carolg! ...I have ordered cacao powder on-line and now my health food store carries it. ...depending on how Raw you are, you can always use something like 'Green and Black' s organic cocoa powder.....not raw, but better than the other stuff!....I don't think I would mess with trying to grind the nibs...don't know if they would get fine enough...and I think it is the smoothness of the frosting that makes it so special!

I used beet powder mixed with agave and coco oil {or butter...can't remember} for the pink frosting...beet powder...I got from Hallelujia Acres....but I have a lot!!!! Hope this helps some! Deb

I am hoping to attempt making this recipe today..
do I have to soak the dates and what type of dates are better to use for this recipe?
thanks in advance

GlimR

I don't soak the dates unless they are very dry/hardish. I usually use medjool dates for most things but this time used fresh barhi dates, much more moist.

I made this last night and I also made Vanilla ice cream. I have a really cool baking pan that has 8 pie slice sections. I used 6 of them. I iced them & put in fridge while I made my ice cream. After dinner I ate a pie slice of it with ice cream on the side. All I can say is this is the BEST chocolate dessert I have ever had!!! The ice cream with it is amazing & also cuts down on the richness a bit. I ended up have 2 big pieces...Not good! Seriously, I could eat the whole recipe in one sitting!!! I will definitely be making this again for my Thanksgiving dessert! I have found my Chocolate Holy Grail dessert. The best part of it all...it is soooo easy & quick to make!!!

Another ice cream recipe appreciated if you can share Eilene. You said lots here so now I want the "rest of the story" please. Thanks.

Off to my favorite event: sitting in the dentists chair. He calls me and my teeth "a piece of work" but I laugh a lot and bring new life to the dreary office. So today's an uplift to them as my present for them watching over my teeth so well. Sure wish they were hear years back and I would be with more real teeth in my mouth without crown talk. I was robbed!!!!!! Now soap brusher!

I used to always make vanilla ice cream with young coconut meat. I didn't have any so here is what I did...

2 cups cashews
1 cup almond milk (next time I'll use 2 cups almond milk & no water)
1 cup water
1 vanilla bean
teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup agave
1 TBL fine shredded coconut

Blend until smooth & put in my ice cream maker for 40 min.
That's it!!
