View Full Version : Raw Recipes vs Simple Raw

My problem is this. When I try to eat intuitively I don't eat enough. I lose weight fast, feel irritable on occasion and just know my body is not in balance. For instance I might eat three pieces of fruit, a cucumber and a handful of seeds in a day. For the past month I've been travelling and at music festivals, so that makes it harder for me, as I don't have access to my blender and food processor, as well as a supermarket on hand all the time. Plus, I don't have a fridge on the road, and it's summer here.

I am now thinking about adding certain meals each day that are raw recipes. When I use the term 'raw recipe' I am not thinking of only dehydrated meals (not that I have a dehydrator or have ever even tried dehydrated food...am in Australia...raw convenience food is not available in most health food stores)...but salads, juices, smoothies...basically anything that is a recipe...ranging from the simple to the complex.

How many meals a day would you eat that are 'raw recipes' according to my definition? How many are just whole foods? I am trying to work out a formula. Don't say 'listen to my body'...for if I follow this philosophy I just eat minimally through laziness, feel unbalanced, lose weight and eat cooked food. I was thinking maybe one or two recipes a day, or alternating...one day 2 and the next one (at a minimum). The thing is, when I tried eating a fruit salad for breakfast and then a vegetable salad for lunch I felt too stuffed and bloated.

Aaaaagghhhh. Why do I make something that should be simple so very complex????

Another idea I have is to just make sure my lunch is a vegetable/greens salad and then use my intuition for the other meals.

Does anybody have any hints/ideas/insights? Thanks so much...

listen to your body!

Ha ha ha!!! Sorry...couldn't resist! :D ;) :p

Why not just make some stuff like the first of the week whip up a few recipes and refrigerate them. Eat as simply or minimally as you feel like doing and then when that "feeling" hits you to eat something more...you don't have to go through the "I-don't-feel-like-making-anythings" for you will have something already pre-made to grab.

According to the definition of raw recipes that you gave, I eat about several of them daily...smoothie, vanilla (or strawberry or chocolate) shake, salad with homemade dressing, raw brownies, ice cream...stuff like that. To ME...that is eating simply especially compared to making like dehydrated recipes or putting together several mini-recipes to complete one full recipe such as a pie or something. So, I eat fruit, salads and the things I mentioned before daily and it's every-now-and-then that I make like dehydrated stuff...very infrequently actually unless you count the grawnola I make weekly for myself and the kids to have with nut milk.

Not sure if any of this is what you were looking for or not but...hope it helped at least a little bit.

Thanks so much for you reply Rawkinlocs. I am home now...back to work tomorrow...but can't complain...I had a 5 week holiday. So things are much easier now that I'm back.

The conclusion I've come to is to have a salad every lunchtime. This is doable even if I travel. A knife and a plate is the only equipment I need. I don't have a problem eating enough fruit, but more so, getting enough greens/vegetables/sprouts. I am feeling good about this... :D
