Mangos and Papayas not raw??

I just came from my local HFS and the guy whom I know who works in the produce department told me that the organic (they sell only organic produce, no commercial) papayas and mangos that come from Mexico are put in boiling water before shipping, it's some kind of law to get across the border to us. Has anyone heard of this? :eek:

Just when you thought organic fruits and veggies were safe.......I guess another reason to shop locally for in season stuff.

I have noticed that lately the mangoes have been rotting rather than ripening when we leave them on the counter....hmmmm. Now I'm wondering if this is the case. (???)

I just googled this- it's called a "hot water treatment" and came across one organic grower in Mexico who says he is the only one who doesn't have to do it because of the region he is in.

I found another site that says the treatment "thermally injurs" the fruit. :mad:

I know. Unfortunately my mango tree isn't old enough to start producing. Although my other fruit trees have little lemons & grapefruits already...YAY!

Here in Florida there are mango groves near Miami and the west coast of Florida. So where do the mangos (unripe of course) come from in the grocery stores? Mexico or S. America! Most of the food in the grocery stores come from out of the country.

My local HFS owner said most food was radiated (organic and non) dont know how true that is; but it is a good reason to eat local food!
Its all very sad!
But I guess it could be worse! IMO So I will keep trucking along and stay as raw as possible.;)
