growing Tomato's and chilli plant

My first attempt at growing tomato's last year was bizarre.

I ended up with a 4 foot high plant which gave birth to two tomato's in september. how do i help my tomato's produce more fruit?
The two fruits from them were the most delicious tomato's i have ever eaten, compared to all the organic home grown ones iv ever bought.
I wasnt raw last year or very healthy to say the least so they got fed coffee as a few people suggested it. But still i only ended up with two fruits. the seeds came from someone who has grown organic tomatos for at least 7 years. so it wasnt like they were 'bad' seeds.


Also my beautiful little chilli plant isnt doing well at all, its leafs always look limp, iv read what conditions to place it in and how often to water etc. i dont want to give it tomato food because of the chemicals in it, but it always looks like its dying.

with some vegetable plants, if you give them too much fertilizer, or the wrong kind or at the wrong time, it encourages leaf/plant growth instead of the fruit (ie tomato) growth. so u might want to ask your friend about this.. also, where do you live? is your climate warm enough or might you be better off growing them in a sunroom or greenhouse? ex: my parents grow thousands of tomato plants outside in massachusetts. they grow great there. but when i was gardening in ireland, we had to grow them in the greenhouse/polytunnel because it just didnt get warm enough outside to give them the heat they needed. that said, i think there are certain varieties that will still grow OK outside, but the greenhouse really helped.

ahh right thanks, i live in Yorkshire,UK. so as cold as ireland, i grew them inside until summer then put them in the greenhouse.

Veggies need 6-8 hours a day.

There are also 2 types of tomatoes - determinate and indeterminate. The indeterminate grows until killed by frost. The determinate grows only to a certain height and then stops growing and dies.

My veggies get sunlight all day.
They also kept growing and growing and growing...

My chilli plants leafs look awful, it looks like its dying all the time, i dont want to feed it any chemicals because i eat the chillis off it.
