Just wondering what you guys use...store bought spring, filtered osmosis, boiled/distilled.
I was buying jugs of spring at the grocery store, and then I bought a stand to hold those big blue jugs of water from water stores, but the water tastes funny. So I tried a different store. Same thing...I tried it right out of their tap and I could still taste it. The lady at the second store ended up saying that that's how water is supposed to taste and that I need to let my tastebuds adjust. I'm not really buying that....the spring water at the grocery store was fine...boiled water is fine. Shouldn't it taste the same? It tasted like Dasani...a sort of plastic thing going on

Soooo, now I don't know what to do? So I need you all to tell me what YOU do!!!
Thanks a lot...Anna

I heard a naturopathic physician speak this week. He recommended Spring water. Reverse osmosis water, which we have at home, according to him, has too much good stuff removed from it, as does distilled water.

you can save a lot of money and gallon containers by buying a brita water pitcher. I love mine, don't know what I'd do without it. or one of the purifiers that fits on your faucet!

Oh K..thanks guys!
I might do the Brita thing...I love Spring though...but I think I remember hearing that it's environmentally unsustainable practice? Don't quote me on that...but that's an important consideration, since that also affects my health...albeit more indirectly. It's delish though...
Cheers!

Guess I should sell this stand thing I bought...dh won't be impressed with that lost flip on the cash though.

I posted a similar thread in the food section yesterday~:)
My concern is also the container the water sits in..I have a cooler and use 3 gallon bottles of spring water but really am not happy with that. I looked into various water filtration systems. I'm moving in 6 months or so and don't want to do anything too expensive until I am resettled. I drink a lot of water and don't want to injest carcinogens from the p[lastic storage bottles.....really concerned about this issue.

This issue drives me nuts. I love water and after drinking wonderful NH well water for years am now confronted with buying water. I tried a faucet purifier only to have my water tested and it did little. I returned...the Brita does not remove much at all though so many swear by them.Is it just a mind game thing??? There is a great system that I wish I could afford to buy that unfortunately needs electricity(another thing I don't want dependency on for clean water)called.....name escapes me right now....but if anyone knows of an excellent faucet one or not too pricey mounted system let me know!
Such a precious resource and one that gets so little national attention. I mean what to do with all the plastic.
Thanks for bringing this issue up!

I like Spring water. It tastes clearer & feels softer to me and with no aftertaste. I read the same thing about purified reverse osmosis water -- that's its not that great for you as it removes minerals. I tried Penta water once and it was really good, but I think they use the reverse osmosis to process it. Alot of celebs, Sting & some major league athletes are big advocates of Penta water.

I also have a Brita filter that I hardly use. In my old place, I had the brita filter on the faucet and that came in handy.

I much prefer the Spring water. I buy it in gallon sizes, in bulk to save $$$.

Peace.

Just wondering what you guys use...store bought spring, filtered osmosis, boiled/distilled.I use distilled water with a small amount of colloidal minerals added to re-mineralize the water.

Isn't distilled water "cooked"? Maybe all types of water are, even Spring water. Anyone know? I'm too lazy to Google. :)

Distilled water uses the same system that nature uses. First nature evaporates the water into the air where it forms clouds and then it rains to bring the water back to the earth. A distiller works on the same natural principal.

Daniel Vitalis is sort of a "water guru" :), he's posted a bunch of vids on youtube:

that vid is like the first of 14 parts, but they are well worth watching, very informative

Ok, I've just started watching it...and I must say he's got a certain 'it' factor...

We get spring water from our neighbors down the road -they've turned it into quite the thriving business. They fill up the 5 gallon plastic jugs, and they're delivered the same afternoon they're filled (well, they come to us within the house because we're neighbors and have known them since before I was born, but the rest of the customers get them the next morning). We try not to keep too many on hand at any one time, since deliveries are bi-weekly. We also keep the jugs in a cool, dark closet, and use a ceramic dispenser. We LOVE this water - it is honestly the best I've ever tasted and everyone pretty much has awesome well water in my valley, so that's saying something!

I would recommend seeking out a local delivery of local spring water in your areas.

Ok...well aren't we worried about E.Coli and so on? My Dad had E.Coli in his well water atleast once, and I'm in Ontario where there was the big Walkerton story...a bunch of people actually died from drinking poorly processed/decontaminated water...big inquest and stuff ofcourse. Why doesn't this seem to be a concern?

I recently purchased an Aquasana filter that attaches to my kitchen faucet. The filter was $100 and every six months you get a replacement filter through the mail for $48. I researched and this is the least expensive, most convenient solution I have found.
Also, using a filter instead of using reverse osmosis or distillation, will keep the minerals in the water and just remove the parts that you want out (like flouride, chlorine, etc.) I like the way this water tastes and can tell a big difference between the tap water and the Aquasana water.
The attachment to the faucet is not bulky like the Brita faucet attachments and you don't have to change it as often. I have also eliminated carting containers of water back and forth to the store and no longer have to store my water in plastic containers.
Overall, I am very happy with this purchase.

Do you think it does a better job of filtering than Brita? Someone earlier mentioned they actually had it tested post-Brita and it wasn't that much different than the original tap...? I think. I'll go check and edit if necessary...would you be willing to take your water to the test, lol?

I thought the Brita pitcher takes out only chlorine, copper and another mineral...does not take out viruses, bacteria, cysts, etc...??? Mostly just what effects taste. And the water is still sitting in plastic unless you rebottle it in glass yourself.

Hey...just found this distiller that doesn't use steam it uses gravity, nor does it use electricity which would be great in a pinch and is portable too, so thought I'd share... http://cgi.ebay.ca/WATER-PURIFIER-FILTER-Energy-Free-Distiller_W0QQitemZ110218216906QQihZ001QQcategoryZ 20684QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
