I am trying to avoid wheat/gluten and was wondering if nama shoyu bothers one with wheat allergy?
Other things with wheat don't seem to bother me, but Nama Shoyu does. I feel like crap after I have it, so I try to avoid it.

It does have wheat in it so if you have a wheat allergy, you need to avoid it.

Unfortunatly yes. I am intollerant to wheat and now that I am all raw I am very sensitive. When I need to use soy sauce I am OK with organic tamari - yum!. With NS I would wake the next day with brain fog, a headach and very swollen joints and puffy hands!:(

I dunno about wheat in Braggs... BUT... BRAGGS does have a 'natural form' of MSG.... aaackkkk!!!
At the certification class I was just at -- there was one gal there that couldn't eat Nama Shoyu ... Alissa just left it out of the recipes and substituted a tiny bit of salt in it's place....
Tamari is supposed to be wheat free -- and personally I love the taste of tamari.... it's great stuff!!

Yes, it does bother me. So I use San-J brand Organic Tamari Wheat Free Soy Sauce Reduced Sodium when I need nama shoyu in a recipe. Good luck!
If it's helpful, sometimes I use sesame oil and salt or tahini and salt to get the Asian flavor. Otherwise (like in flax crackers), just salt does the trick.

Yes, it does bother me. I can't handle gluten..:( It gave me headaches.
I just poured it down the drain a couple of days ago.
So Braggs has a natural form of MSG?!!

Does Tamari contain glutamates (msg) as well?
When I use NS I itch all over about 30 min. later.:(
I usually just use a tiny bit of celtic sea salt. The flavor isn't the same, but I'm more comfortable!

Yes, it bothers me as does soy sauce, braggs, etc. So we buy wheat free tamari (it's by the soy sauces in the store at whole foods)
Good luck!!!

I use braggs quite a bit and love it for many recipes. It doesn't seem to bother me. I haven't tried nama shoyu but don't think I will after reading this thread. I think I can live without it. supposedly wheat is really bad for dogs too. my friend says they're allergic to it  and that most dog foods have it. maybe i should take this over to the raw pets forum. :)
