So my big fat old cat of 15 years old was just diagnosed with Diabetes...
I feel guilty about it b/c I have only been feeding him meow mix dry food because wet food seemed to make him throw up.
Now I am faced with giving him insulin 2X A Day.... the problem is twofold... I cannot afford the insulin or the regular vet monitoring and I want to get him healthy and off of it.
I know people have recovered from Diabetes on raw... does anyone know of any animals??
Also, I have no clue how do get started feeding raw to my cat? He's a carnivore so I guess I need to feed him raw meat? what kind of raw meat? is anyone else raising a healthy raw kitty??

Do you have access to wheatgrass? I give it to my cat and just feed him cat food from the health food store. This week it was Paul NEwman's brand.
I'm sorry about your cat. My brother has fed two of his cats wheatgrass. They both were suffering from something and he did not use the vet. One was a stray and came back from the brink of death with just wheatgrass and no other food. Check out my website. There's a great picture of my cat taking his "medicine"! Good luck
There are a ton of sites on raw diets for cats, just google it. I will say, though, definitely get him off any grain of any sort and try to do raw. If he won't eat it, get a grain-free kibble like Evo. If he loses the weight and eats raw, it will be like a human adopting a raw food lifestyle and the diabetes can be cured.

Try going to www.shirleyswellnesscafe.com there is a ton of great info there on preparing raw for your sweet cat or even purchasing raw food to be delivered to your doorstep!

I am so sorry to hear (((((((hugs))))))))
If I were you I would start researching online for raw cat food (like catnutrition.org) because I find so many people do it their way and ultimately you make the decision.
a homeopathic/naturopath vet visit might be in order too...maybe even calling ahead to see if s/he has experience with diabetes.
my cat is overweight and at my last visit my vet and I discussed diabetes and she was very optimistic about treatment these days (sad she wasn't focussed on aggressive prevention, I had to do that, but what can we do)
also my friend's cat had diabetes before many of today's treatments were available and it was horrifying at first, but she ended up figuring everything out.
last the guilt.......I feel it too......but you know what? you did your BEST with what you knew at the time.......if you had known better, you would have done better.......you being here and asking questions is a great indication of which.
hang in there......and remember, the internet is your best friends. lucky star blessings to kitty and you!
