View Full Version : Green Smoothies - slow and steady wins the race

I make about three pints of green smoothie for breakfast. It used to be that I'd down it all as quickly as possible (it's delish), and then it'd pass through me sometime soon thereafter. If I drank it at around 8, I'd be hungry again around 10:30.

Well - now, I drink about a pint of it right away and then put the rest into a big plastic sippy jug I bought, pack it with me when I go and glug it slowly throughout the morning - and, it keeps me totally full until about 1:30, and it all seems to stay inside my body where it belongs! Drinking it slowly has made such a big difference for me - whenever I get a hunger signal I have a few sips of it, and I can continue this until the afternoon. I'm eating less and feeling better.

Just wanted to share this tip!

Great point! When I first started drinking smoothies I wanted to get them down fast because I like them ice cold. When I started to slow down I have noticed that they keep my tummy full for hours and I can usually go into the afternoon before I get hungry. :D

you may have solved my biggest problem. I LOVE my GS. I drink a quart right away and a second quart after an hour or 2, but I have been troubled by the "outcome", iykwim? :p I will try to make it last all morning tomorrow and see if I feel better.

I have NO IDEA how VB drank 2 gallons day after day????

Great suggestion (I just keep the blender at my desk or wherever I am, & pour another glass as needed...
...then it's not exposed to air, & I don't have to go back & forth to the fridge)) but the only caution I would give is to keep a glass of water close & sip on it after each smoothie sip, if your teeth are at all sensitive to fruit, or you don't want them to be...that's a long time to have it on your teeth!

I have weak teeth, & have heard that sometimes raw foodists eventually will have problems with their teeth, & suspect that this (& more frequent eating, & dehydrated fruit) may be one reason why...
(...I even sip water (& swish) between sips of juices, or my teeth hurt!)

So THAT'S the difference?! Go figure! I kept wondering why I was so hungry in what was in my mind - too soon after having had my smoothie!;) Thanks for the tip!:D

It so strange you ask this question, because I was thinking about this today....

I used to 'down' them, but now I have taken to sipping at them, otherwise I feel a bit sick afterwards.

I do what you do, I just keep taking a sip every now and again........
