***sorry for the TMI in this post***

I have horrible ovarian cysts. They keep me up at night. Sometimes they hurt so mcuh that I throw up. Usually the best I can hope for during my cycle (and right before) is some ibuprofen to make the pain dull enough to do what I have to do that day but it never goes away.

WELL enter maca which I starting using in my morning smoothie about a week ago. My cycle started today without any pain at all. I didn't even realize it was the time that I'm usually laid up in bed curled up in a little ball. The only thing I have done differently is the maca.

Right now I have a little cramping but it's minimal. I don't even need to take anything for it. Believe me when I say this is nothing short of a miracle for me.

That is fantastic!!!! I think I will put some maca in my green smoothie today in your honor. I usually have it only with the rare cacao mylk shake, but maybe it would be worth having more often.

I just hope the hubby's up for it. ;)

My husband has been out of town since I started my maca journey but comes home Friday. We're hoping for a little extra heat!

Where does everyone find maca powder? Or do you take the capsules?

I get mine at naturalzing. They have a lot of different products there. I have used it for cacao smoothies to make them taste like malt shakes. Mmmmm...

Wow I'm so happy happy for you!

I took it for increased "drive". I have had no increase in desire HOWEVER, it has upped the WOW factor of climax. . through the roof!

I buy mine in bulk and use a capsule maker - love this tool!

Cheers,

Thats Awesome!
I saw a video with Shazzie and she mentioned it so the past 2 days I have been on the prowl for some raw maca.

Ooooh boy, I'm definitely going to start using more maca in my green smoothies!! :) And I'm working on some digestive healing... but as soon as I feel confident enough to have my malty mylkshakes again, I'm going to be roaring and ready to go on those too!

I bought mine through this site. Obviously I'm 100% satisfied!

Thanks so much for sharing, I will def order maca. Which maca is the best. I have seen red maca or plain, super maca, does it matter? and one serving, how many tablespoons would that be a day?

On the side note - anybody knows if it is possible to grow maca root yourself?

Like I mentioned, I bought the maca that Alissa sells. I'm not messing with perfection, it works better than anything else I have tried. My doctor has been screwing around with different birth control pills for two years trying to get my cysts under control. ONE DAMN WEEK with Alissa's maca and they cleared up. I almost can't believe it.

Hehe irinam, I'm picturing the likes of me trying to grow maca. I can't keep a cactus alive. I have the worst brown thumb on the planet!

i started putting maca in my morning smoothies after hearing shazzie talk about it on you tube... a few weeks later my normally strong nails started breaking off, and my hair wasn't doing so good, either.

i asked for help. brian yamamoto (prominent rawfoodist on another board) suggested i drop the maca, as it is a stimulant and can interfere with the absorbtion of other vitamins and minerals. as soon as i did that, my nails grew back strong and my hair got healthy again.

point being, in the traditional cultures where it is used, maca (and cacao for that matter) is a medicine, not a food. it is used to correct imbalances where they exist, and probably shouldn't be used just to jazz up your life if you know what i mean.

Point taken, but my cysts were destroying my life and now it's like they were never there. I'm the happiest woman in the world right now!!

It wasn't Rx'ed to me by a practitioner but I'm so glad I found maca. People do forget that natural doesn't always mean healthy and safe. There are some very deadly things in nature!

I am getting good results with maca as well. However, it tastes so bad to me. I may try alissa's next time.

I bought raw cacao from Alissa as well. I use a tbsp of each in my morning fruit smoothie

Clearly had medicinal use in your case, Lore-ah. I think its fabulous about your cysts!!! Congrats!

Wow! Awesome news about your cysts...

However; IMO it could be a combination of things... you have not been raw THAT long... you have lost weight... even 10 pounds is significant when you have health problems... it could be that your raw lifestyle is really kicking in now... I take MACA myself and love it... but I am a bit weary that you are crediting the absense of cyst pain with MACA alone... you have been taking MACA for only a week.. I really question if it would have that effect in 1 weeks' time...

Sorry to rain on your MACA parade, I'm being skeptical BUT your news is excellent--and keep up the good work... I'm sure as your pounds melt away, so will many other health problems.

Congratulations to you!! I know how elated you must feel! Maca has been highly touted to improve hormonal imbalances, improve female (as well as male) "issues" and more!

You can rain on my maca parade all you'd like. The fact is the pain went away practically over night. I don't know if you have cysts (I hope you don't!). Those of us who do know there are basically two phases: a little baseline pain you learn to live with and curling up in a ball and/or barfing pain around cycle time.

The pain has never turned off like a switch in these two long, painful years and here I am at the start of my cycle without so much as a single ibuprofen. My weight has been all over the place and I won't even comment on my raw lifestyle as of late ( :( )

Thank you for your post, but my ovaries speak louder. You folks can't know how grateful I am to not be in constant pain

you hit a nerve here! Today I am suffering from cramps that are so bad that I felt like I would throw up or pass out many times today. I've been raw just under 2 months, so I hope as I lose weight, this will get better. For now, it was suggested to me that the herb Saw Palmetto can be very helpful to women with hormone imbalances. I'm going to do some reading about that. Now I'll check out maca, too!

Yes, I have suffered some health problems, in particular I had huge fibroids for years that the doctor told me I could never get rid of without surgery... well, guess what? After being raw they have literally disappeared to the point where I cannot feel them anymore (they were the size of grapefruits, and caused intense pain during my menstral cycles, so I know the power of raw)...

One thing that really stuck out in your original post for me is that you are on birth control pills... please do your body a favour and get off them as soon as possible--birth control pills or any other pharmaceutical drugs/medicine certainly are not condusive to the raw lifestyle. Medical doctors scare me as they don't know a thing about health.. hence, trying to rid your cysts with b/c pills.

Keep up the good work!!!! Enjoy the journey.. it is soooo amazing to feel great physically and spiritually isn't it?

I am on the BC for my cysts and I do not want to get pregnant. I'm not a fan of them either but it's a million times better than the alternative (getting pregnant).

Now that I know I can control my cysts without them, my husband and I will talk about other methods. Right now that's the most effective way to ensure our lives aren't totally distrupted by a pregnancy. Whatever the pills do, let's just say getting pregnant would be 10000x times worse.

Our other option is him getting snipped which is something we're discussing. Ferg, you're sort of a bummer. First about the maca then about my choice of birth control. I'm a big girl, I can make some decisions here. I'm sure your suggestions come from a good place but we all have our own journey here.

This post has REALLY caught my attention! I have been raw since last October 1st and I too was experiencing the pain you describe around my cycle time. But since I am not one to even touch an aspirin, I just dealt with the pain as best as I could. Ok, fast forward to the first week in January when I purchased my first bag of Raw MACA. I have been taking it everyday in my smoothies and I just finished my period with NO PAIN!! In fact, this is the first time in my life that my has been a breeze! I did not even realize it was that time of the month:p It was light and lasted only two day's and it was PAIN FREE! I am now a firm believer in MACA!:)

Yes, RawMistress. I'm highly interested in the whole Maca conversation. I have PCOS. And I know that I've been really fatigued lately and that effects hormonal balance greatly. I'm trying the Maca now. And have noticed that I have more energy and I feel sharper. I'm some other supplements prescribed by a naturopath for PCOS. I'm just hoping the Maca will work with these things as a compliment and not interfere.
