Hi, I was wondering if anyone has been able to continue weightloss after doing the master cleanse for 10 days or longer? I have about 50 pounds to lose and unless I am going to do the MC for 50 days (NOT) i'm concerned that the weightloss will stop after this fast (as I've heard other's say)?? If there has been some who have been able to continue to lose weight after this or any fast, how did you do it? Obviuosly 100% raw, but did you exclude nuts, seeds, and dehydrated foods completely from your raw diet?? Ok, thanks.:)

Hi all,
I was just curious if there has been anyone who has been able to continue losing weight after a juice fast or the master cleanse for 10 days or longer ( up to a month)? I've heard it said that weightloss tends to stop after a long fast. And although you don't gain weight, I would still like to continue to lose. I have about 50 pounds to lose and unless I'm going to do the MC for 50 days (NOT) I'm a little concerned. My primary reason for doing the MC is not for the weight loss but for all the other benefits as I have experienced from doing it once in the past. It's also going to save me some money until I can get a better budget going. All the fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds were getting a little too pricey for me. Anyway, If you have lost weight after fasting for a period of 10 days or longer, how did you do it? Obviously, 100% raw. But did you exclude nuts, seeds, and dehydrated foods completely from your diet? Ok, thanks so much in advance:) Charika

I did not do well with water fasting 7 days. I was way out of control and gained weight. For me, I would not water fast again.
I would be curious if juice fasting was more effective.
I would be interested to see what kind of responses you get. :) Goodluck with what you decide to do!
As for after my fast this time around, I'm less likely to eat nuts or use a dehydrator and will probably be cautious of food combining. I felt so bloated after my 14 day water fast last summer, and then returning to eating normally.
Even with not watching my combo. though, my weight had fluctuated b/wn the same weight loss or 1-2 lb. gain. I did not continue to lose. Mostly b/c I don't think I had anything more to lose. :o I also didn't exercise.
So with analyzing my past experience, I'll be tweaking with after this fast and see how it goes.

Fasting seriously slows down your metabolism. It's really not good for weight loss in the long run, especially if it causes you to overeat afterwards. Your body will cling to every calorie.

Hi Chakira, research, research, research online. Out of all three: water, MC, Juice Fast (I've done all three). Juice fast is the best, why? With juice fasting you are infusing your body with all kinds of vitamins, minerals, enzymes in a juicy form which you will later add to your raw food lifestyle. Did the MC lost 11 lbs in 11 days and gained it right back as soon as I sneezed! Now I cannot stomach the thought of the MC any longer. The taste uggghhhhhhh. Not to mention I heard that maple syrup goes through a heating process. Water is good, but the issue is our American diet is already devoid of so many nutrients, etc. that your body is starved and that is where the juice fast comes in. Be prepared though you will go through alot of fruits and vegetables. Whatever you choose it will all lead you on your path to success!

Thank you all who responded. It's a lot of helpful and interesting information. I really appreciate it:) I actually already started the MC, but maybe I won't do it for as long as I was planning. As far as the juice fast...definitly have to wait until my budget is a little better:) Thanks again...

Can someone recommend a couple of juices for the juice fast, let say 7 days?
Id like to start that next week ... today I'm fasting on just water and some apple cider vinegar at times and at other times diluted straight cranberry juice in water and also straight water. Tomorrow morning its a Green juice... just some carrots, celery,, lettuce and ginger root. : )
Wonder, can you do smoothies for juice fast too? Id assume so.
Last night my dinner was a smoothie with: frozen mangos a handful, a few strawberries, a handful of frozen blueberries and some fresh squeezed apple juice 1 cup in it.
Anyway thanks for any help : )
Btw: Yesterday was first almost all RAW day ... had that juice for breakfast, lunch of steamed green beans with sweet potato from the oven and dinner the smoothie. Going to start tomorrow all RAW for me anyway, my parents are doing 2 raw meals and 1 cooked. But I'm making the food so they gonna have to eat it. LOL. Got some recipes from goneraw.com Mostly fruit juices for breakfast and a lot of blended lunch and dinners for now.

i just finished a master cleanse and have been maintaining the weight i lost.
your metabolism is so low when you finish that its hard to continue losing straight away. the key is to SLOWLY increase you calorie intake. on the MC, you were consuming 300-900 calories a day. increase your calories by 100 a day. its pretty easy if you're sticking to fruits. ex. 2 cups of grapefruit juice is 180 calories; an entire avocado is 250; 1 tablespoon of olive oil is 120 calories.
so you can have grapefruit juice for breakfast and lunch, then have a decadent salad for dinner with an entire avocado and oily dressing for less than 800 calories for the entire day.
just stay away from nuts and dried fruits for the first few days. you won't be that hungry so don't go nuts with the psychological urge.
also, don't let anyone tell you what you can and can't do. you have all the power.

i started my weight release and raw journey with a couple of fasts. my story is linked in my signature below :)
as for smoothies... you are not fasting if you taking in smoothies. the idea of a fast is to slow down/stop the digestive process... smoothies are whole food just blended up... still full of fibre etc. so nope, it's not fasting.
and be sure to only use freshly made juices on your fast... nothing from a store...
carrot, celery, apple, ginger is a nice juice...

RG, 70 lbs is awesome!! i have been vegetarian for a couple of years. was 80% raw a while back after taking a raw cooking course and just getting back into it. i need to lose about 20 lbs. i'm not too pressed if its slow as i don't want to keep myself from making lots and lots of raw chocolate. did you still have nuts etc during your loss?

i don't eat too many nuts now as i find my tummy doesn't like them much. but i still eat raw desserts and goji truffles all the time!

thats fabulous. if i forced myself from eating things i love (avocados and chocolate), i would be eating pommes frites and mayo in a second. i may even put on a few pounds in the next few weeks cause i'm gonna cook everything! i have a stack of raw food cook books and i plan to make lots of pies!

just saw your blog and congrats on the huge weight loss!! i lost 60 lbs 4 years ago (never gained it back but never lost the last 20). you seem to have a good attitude about food. i'm sure you'll hit your goal in no time at the speed you're going.

well i'm happy to release more weight... i am... but it's all about the health and lifestyle for me actually. i choose to be healthy. i choose to be kind and loving to my body and i believe 100% that cooked foods is not a healthy choice.
so... for me, if it takes me 10 years to release all my excess weight... then so be it. i'll keep exercising and eating raw and loving life :D

I lost weight the minute that I started eating after my fast... it just kept falling off! I stuck to big veggie salads with ACV and some liquid aminos as dressing. Also ate lots of cleansing fruit. Kept nuts and other fats to a minimum for about a week, then started eating them again. I have been able to maintain my weight loss by now eating all the raw goodies I want. I just assume that my body wants to stay at this weight.

I lost 17lbs from doing the cleanse and I gained it right back plus an extra 5lbs. I think because I was so hungry from not eating during the cleanse that my body gorged on anything I could get. And even too much fruit isn't that good for you lol. I love fruit and my teeth are paying the price.

i ate HUGE amounts of fruit when i first finished fasting and became raw... and still released 70 pounds.

Yup everyone is different. Some people can eat fruit and loose lots of weight. For me I can gain weight quite quickly from fruit but I love my high sugar fruits like banana's. oranges and cantaloupe. :D

so then saying "too much fruit isn't good for you" is inaccurate. it should be "too much fruit isn't good for ME"
:D cause as you say... everyone is different ;)

Hi!
I'll share my experience. I did the 10 day master cleanse about two years ago and lost about 10 lbs and then gained it back plus more right afterwards. My goal was to cleanse-not to lose (although that would have been nice) and I felt great on the cleanse mostly but there were some really really rough times too. I felt like my metabolism dropped drastically even though I had a lot of very shaky energy and I even went running. I felt like a hummingbird on sugar-not in a healthy way.
Last year I did two juice fasts (feasts)-about 12 days each and I lost 22-25 pounds and have kept it off without really trying anything different. I exercise more I guess and I try to eat well, but I really feel like the effects of those fasts were more permanent (physically, emotionally, spiritually)-even the cleansing seems to have lasted longer. I also did a couple of weekend fasts towards the end of the year. And the rough times on juice fasting were nothing compared to the rough times on the MC. I will probably never do the master cleanse again. I am a true juice fast convert I'm on day three of one now and I feel great!:D
