Hi every one , hope you all are super cool !!!! anyhoo

I bought a huge bag of hemp seeds thinking i could sprout them and have them in juices salads etc , however I have no experience with hemp seed , and am not sure what evryone means when they say hulled or dehulled

non the less , the hemp i bought has a had kinda outer shell and is sorta dark grey and crunchie when you bite it ,

i soaked them in water for 24 hours, drained the water and left them to sprout , every so often i would through some water on them to stop from drying out

its been about 5 days noe and still nothing not even a sign of a teensy little sprout

am i doing something wrong ? or am i being silly can you not sprout hemp?

hope anyone can help

xxxx

All hemp seeds sold in the US have been sterilized specifically so that they will not sprout/grow into plants. You did nothing wrong.

Edit: I just noticed that you are in the UK, I don't know the laws there but they may be the same.

I have sprouted hemp seeds and even planted them but they only grew a few inches and then died.
Usually I just soak a large handfull overnight. In the morning I grind them in the blender with water and then strain to get hemp milk. I can then use it instead of water in a smoothie.

I bought a big-ars bag of hemp seeds, too, but mine are hulled which I think effectively broke them up. Regardless of whether or not they sprout, you should be able to soak them for 6 hours or so to deactivate the "enzyme inhibitors" if you are able to at all.

The hemp milk sounds like a good idea for your situation. I might also take the pulp left over and recycle it into a flax cracker mixture to make a kick-ars omega cracker of some sort. I think it might also be just as well to blend them - hulls-'n'-all - into some sort of smoothie (fruit would probably be best).

Peace,
