My son is 8 months old. He has the beginnings of two little teeth. We've been feeding him soft fruit puree twice a week or so since he became really interested in what we were eating. He still really prefers nursing, though. I nurse him every two hours pretty much around the clock. When to really start trying the solid foods everyday? Once he has a few more teeth?

It's been awhile but if I recall nursing is all he needs for at least the first year......but starting him with solids (pureed) is probably ok, I'll step back and let the experts answer. I just wanted to say Good luck! I wish I had known about this lifestyle when my kids were younger. BEFORE they were introduced to SAD food! Good luck!;)

Try some soft mashed banana or avocado!
i like the principles of baby-led parenting, let the baby tell you when!
so far my 6mo old girl has gotten tastes of lots of things. berries, apples, tangerine, pear, kiwi, tomato, grapes, grapefruit, melon, banana, avocado, a stick of celery and a stick of red pepper that she used as teething toys, even some broccoli that i chewed up for her. only one thing at a time and very little of it and i let her feed herself a lot of the time.
i don't puree things, i just smash them up. i read somewhere that the homogenized texture of totally blended food can make them resistant to food later on. don't know if it's true or not but i leave it pretty chunky (except for the apple and pear of course, but even that still has a lot of texture).

He does like his celery sticks and apples, too. I let him taste things, but just wondering if breastmilk should still be his primary (99%) source of nutrition. In order to get our of the house and have some social time, I spend time with lots of mamas and babes who don't really get what I'm doing as far as raw foods, so then I start to question myself (am I getting enough calories, should he be eating more solid foods?)
We're in California so I once fruit season really kicks in he'll probably have four teeth and be ready to start chewing for himself.

I see that you live in Ojai,Ca do you know Jinjee from the garden diet? I think she will be really helpful as she lives very close to you. Try and see if she can help you. I have her home phone number if you'd like.
Take it easy
oh yes, primary breast for sure! i just give tastes.
i am very careful with apple slices or other things that are hard, they can break off in chunks that are a choking hazzard. i watch carefully when i give those things.
and i have infant cpr too, that's essential!

Yes rawfoodmommy I do know her thank you. Her littlest is very close in age to mine. I like to find out what others are doing as well, "second opinions" if you will. He seems to be doing great on breastmilk. I just second guess myself sometimes. But he keeps on growing, is incredibly healthy and has never really been sick, so I don't know why I do. The positive feedback is very re-affirming!
