Just wondering what you all do for work...and if you feel it's incongruent with this lifestyle, and if not, if you are looking to change it. etc.
....Me, I'm a student, officially...arts degree with hopes of becoming a Speech Pathologist. I left the Nursing program, not that I think it's ineheritantly unhippie, but I do find western medicine to be wasteful these days...it just occured to me that this topic might be controversial! Or not...nothing's perfect. aha
Ya, mostly nursing wasn't for me for plenty of other reasons.
While studenting over the next few years, I am lining up a cute little secretary job beside my kids school that lets out at 3 so I can go pick them up...via foot. And foot all of us to school and back in theory too. I've just bought a wagon, and plan on using it as I walk around to all my errands, which will then support the downtown, which is apparently important?...but more importantly it reduces pollution, right?
I mean I would love to live somewhere tropical and farm all my own food, or whatever, but I was born into this situation, and I have to start here. Plus I love my friends....
So what do you do and why and are you ok with it? Or do you want to change it?
Thanks,
Anna
PS...what do you think, city or country?

I was in the corporate world for over 20 years as an executive HR person. It was my day job. My leg injury took me out of the mix for 2 years and now I find myself not wanting to return to that pace, no way in hell actually. I think I'd wither away and lose myself. It's no longer a match...especially after embracing the Raw food lifestyle. I've changed 360 degrees.
My evening job at the time of working as an HR person, which has now become my current day job ;), is a Spiritual Life Coach & Intuitive. This is what I do best. Lately my clients have been gravitating to me with a host of health issues and so I believe it's God's way of matching us up. It's right up my alley, lol. They're eating up the raw food information. Counseling and healing is my first love and my gift and it's what I was meant to do. I plan to study more about raw foods and teach classes, look into taking some classes with well known gurus and go from there. It's a process and I'm allowing myself to flow in and with it, rather than forcing it. Based on where I've been healthwise in the past 2 years, I've learned to be extremely patient. Which is a huge step for this formerly highly driven & overly competitive woman. I'm still driven, but my energy is more focused and vibrating on a different, much higher level. My energy is no longer toxic and no longer circulating 'outside' of myself. This has a great deal to do with raw foods as well as doing some intense inner work for the past 10 years. I am here and in the present. I wish to share this good feeling with others through my practice.
It's interesting also that I was always diehard city girl. Now I can no longer stand the hustle and bustle of the city! I still love San Francisco but my decision to move was a good one. I'm in a more mellow residential energy right now and am gravitating towards rural or the tropics or a combo of both eventually. Being near the water is essential for my well being.

I'm a student majoring in environmental studies. I feel that it totally lines up with the raw lifestyle. For example, next semester I will be studying Hydrology, which is all about water (including how to find good quality drinking water). I'm not sure what I'll do once I get out of college, but something will come to me :D . Also, I am preparing to start selling organic clothing in a few weeks on my website, www.deliciousdyes.com . And of course I am a student of life :) .

I'm an accountant. I find that it is generally neutral with the raw lifestyle. The only occaision that I find it conflict is when I go to accounting conferences or have a lunch meeting with clients.
I do have an aspiration to start a small health food resturant and store, if I can find a partner. I know a naturopath that wants to do a resturant geared to health too, perhaps we can hook up on this project.

I'm a Veterans representative in NJ, and a mobilized Navy reservist (meaning active duty til July 09 in Norfolk, VA) who "de-mobs" our sailors - aka - send them home!
I am really not concerned about my food vs. my vocations.
It's good to be me, and shame on any of you who LET the opinions of others mess with you!
Great thread topic - I was just wondering this earlier!
Are there any football fans out here either?

I had taken a programming class of one year and I'm currently self employed selling a computer software I made, I've never officially become a programmer because I didn't really like it and after seeing how corrupt the health care system is after learning the treatments I was given for Crohn's disease I had were only to make money and that the cure to almost every disease is known I got infuriated and an unless urge to want to help others and save lives. I'm writing a book on health and the health care system which I will be giving for free and writing a recipe book I'm almost done with which I will sell.
Since over 90% of people prefer to ridicule me and keep using treatments that will cost them their lives and let them suffer in the meantime, it really discourages me seeing that most people would rather rely on a criminal organization that will take their lives and money rather than someone that wants to honestly help them. I also realized the importance of staying active and in shape and all these events led me to want to become a firefighter, it will feel great being able to help people in a way that not 90% will ridicule me and let themselves die, and if I'm lucky, maybe being a firefighter will add credibility to my health information and lower the 90% of people that choose to ridicule me.
Of course being a doctor is what ironically would give me the most credibility, but I'd rather die than be a doctor, every doctor indirectly kills 1000-2000 patients or more per year due to the fraudulent treatments they are forced to use and are forbidden from using any science based treatments or they loose their jobs and are often jailed. Doctors are really quacks fabricated by the government.

I am a Life insurance agent. I have been in insurance for 12 years or so. I used to love my job when I worked directly for a single insurance company. There I could be an advisor - I helped people protect their loved ones. I work for a brokerage that sells many different companies and hate it - they are more concerned with making a sale not about the clients. I was not born to a sales person who is only concerned with $$$ so I am out on Friday. I am walking away from a pretty good paycheck because I have ethics I am not willing to compromise.
Hopefully I can find something that is ok money wise and let me sleep at night too.
I think speech pathology is a wonderful career goal- it is one that is in high demand and you make a difference in someone's life.
Good luck ;)

I have done accounting for the majority of my career in large corporate enviroments and now senior level administration with a non-profit in a very fulfilling position.
Funny, but would easily transition from this position into a position to help others heal with the raw food lifestyle without hesitation (as long as financial commitments could be met).

Why don't you consider becoming a naturopathic doctor. Not all states allow them. The have N. M.D.'s here in Arizona. I know they have them in Oregon too.

I'm self employed in Network Marketing, a SAHM, we homeschool. On the 'side', I love natural photography, photographing my dd, encouraging & helping other breastfeed-attached parenting. I enjoy helping everyone I meet each day feel a little better.
Chugged along in marketing Corporate America job for the last few years. Learned about raw along the way, took trainings with Alissa and a bunch of other fantastic chefs around the world (mostly for fun and knowledge)... then finally... about a week and a half ago I ventured into the full-time entrepreneurial world. (That means I left Corporate America!)
So... I am teaching raw food classes and have my own business full time now!!! I'd already been doing it on the side, but wow it's nice but without having to deal with corporate nonsense.
LOL, so yeah, finally I am aligned with something that's great for my path. And great for a raw foodie.
And -- dang it is fun!!! I spent a whole day today PLAYING WITH FOOD and opening up the raw food world for other people. I love it love it love it.
:) OK, excited rant over. Feels good to have shared. :)

I'm a public school teacher, currently teaching fourth grade. I love my job, warts and all.
I don't think that my own personal eating habits have anything to do with my career, but I do believe that I influence my students simply by eating with them. My students joked with other kids in the school that their teacher was a monkey because I ate so many bananas. And let me tell you...by the end of the school year, I'd say that 90% of my students were bringing a banana in their lunch every day!

i'm an entrepreneur. i have several businesses that i run online as well as offline, they deal with different things. i do a lot of marketing, promotion and event planning- again, online as well as offline. until recently i was also a band manager for an indie label, and i dabbled in photography and freelance writing. i have run 3 popular online magazines (guaranteed you would not have heard of them, as they are very niche specific), and also have experience in film, and a lot of my stuff has aired on local news in the past, specifically sports, as i have been a cameraman.. or woman.. since i was 14 years old. lol
i don't really do any of the cool or fun stuff that much anymore. lol now it's all business *yawn*... my main focus is on a company that my dad and i run. we help people with their credit woes... and i don't mean mere credit repair.
i also do some graphic and web design, graphics for everything from business cards, letterheads & stationary, magazines, album covers, photo retouching, etc..

I am a homebirth midwife in a small community. I have been blessed to make my passion my work and get paid for doing what I love to do. It is the most difficult and demanding job I can imagine having, but also the most gratifying. Go figure :p

I worked in toxic (both physically & mentally) factories for about 10yrs - decided I had enough, took nine months off to stay at home & sell on ebay - decided I needed to be around people again, so I got certified to teach yoga (I teach 2 classes per week at the YMCA) - and I'm the manager of a small health food store (for the last 1 1/2yrs) - love it! :D

I am a nurse by profession. I was home with my children for 13 years and have been back at work for five. I desire NOTHING more than to be home with my children again. My youngest is only eight, and I resent every day I have to go to work and be away from them, especially since we homeschool. Trying very hard to get money and finances and housing lined up so that we can afford for me to be home again. Unfortunately, I am the only one really trying, and it is a two person deal. Hopefully that will change down the road. In the meantime I push drugs at our local detention facility and see the ravages of poor nutrition on our society. As you can imagine, jail food is void of nutrition.....they are lucky to get a piece of iceberg lettuce every few days! However, most people treat themselves even worse on the outside. I have a lot of opportunities to teach nutrition and health habits (and spiritual direction too) and have to hope and believe that my teaching and advice will make a difference with someone somewhere.

I am a front-desk receptionist at a fitness center. I love, love, LOVE my job (and all the perks that go along with it!) I was a travel agent for many years before the agency I worked at closed down not long after 9-11. I would never want to go back to that stressful job. The job I have now is perfect for me and I couldn't ask for a nicer boss!! Wish everyone enjoyed their job the way I do mine!!;):D:)

wow, I love reading about what all of you do for a living....very interesting and diverse!!
I'm currently starting my own mobile auto detailing business, but i've done many things in the past including being a hairstylist, house cleaner, barista, web site builder, & fashion designer. When the detail business doesn't require so much of my time I would like to start a new clothing line! (Maybe eco friendly this time!!?)

I am a SAHM and an entrepreneur from home enriching people's lives. I love it! If you want to try it on, email me through this forum. I find the raw lifestyle fits right in with helping others. I feel more compassionate eating this way and connect with others more easily, without mentioning that I am raw. I am currently creating the funds to take Alissa's raw certification training so I can help others enjoy the benefits that I enjoy eating/living this way.

I work half time as a chiropractic assistant which has in the past been a glorified receptionist position. My boss wants me to start getting more involved doing scans, patient education etc. so I am excited about really being a chiropractic assistant although I loved the receptionist aspect. Loved talking to the patients etc. I am blessed to be able to work half time job sharing with a good friend. We can take off whenever as long as we cover each other. Best job I have ever had.

I am a phlebotomist at a large hospital. It is ok for now and I do find the practice of drawing blood to be quite interesting, but it is a job not a career. I don't agree with western medicine for the most part and it breaks my heart seeing people dying of diseases that they could cure with food and exercise. Since all I do is draw blood, I don't feel so bad being my actions are not putting the patients in a worse state of health. I have been told many times that I am a natural healer and a teacher so I want to do something involving those things. I think the further I go down my raw path, the clearer things will be. I am content for now though. :) I need to work on me before I can really work on others.

I was an aeronautical engineer before the birth of my children, working on some very cool cutting-edge technology. Then I was fortunate to be a stay-at-home Mom for my 6, including a set of twins. Now I am a dinosaur in the world of technology. A few years ago, when my youngest turned 6 (he's now almost 11--how can that be?!?), I started tutoring students in math. I guess I am now considered an entrepreneur--my tutoring service turned into a business, with other former engineers tutoring for me. I enjoy the one-on-one work with middle- and high-school students, especially changing attitudes that math is *do-able* and can be fun and very interesting. My favorite is tutoring college-level math--it keeps my brain moving. Not so world-changing or life-changing, but I enjoy it.

I am a medical assistant and work at a doctor's office with four doctors and am a assistant to one. I actually like my job because I like the people I work with and like working with people. It is frustrating though knowing what I know about heatlhy eating and exercise and how much healthier people could be if they knew what I know and would apply it to their lives. The one thing though is some people would not be willing to do what it takes to be healthly. Some people do not like to have to work at things and want everything to be easy.

Hello to all...this is my first posting and found this thread a great way to introduce myself. I work as a Senior Healthcare Administrator. I like to call myself the raw executive!! :) I work in a 300 bed hospital under what could be stressful conditions. I contribute my ability to handle stressful situations, long hours, crazy people :p and the demand of also being a wife and mother to a healthy lifestyle not normally taught in mainstream medical fields. I want to be the living proof to that. With where healthcare is headed in this country, I feel like I know a dirty little secret. While my job and the idea of being a raw foodist seem to clash, I have actually found it to help me live a more balanced life. I can't wait to learn more from all ya'll and I am excited to be a member.
