Wow, now I am really confusing myself! While putting in my coop order, I see one agave syrup listed simply as agave, and another brand listed as RAW. Similar prices per oz. - about $0.21 per oz.

Then, while I'm trying to google a little info on the one not listed as raw (thinking maybe it's just not certified or something), I come across this whole controversy about agave syrup and whether ANY of it is raw at all.

I'm hoping someone on here has checked this out more thoroughly, and can give me some non-technical info, and brand names, if there are any that are truly considered raw - with living enzymes still intact.

Here's a couple of links I found, if anyone else is interested in checking this out:

You will definitely find that as you travel this raw journey you will hear and read controversies over just about everything - almond butter, agave, nama shoyu, herbs, nuts, onions, garlic, sprouts, carrots, wheat grass...just to name a few!

The thing you're going to have to do unless you want to live in a state of confusion as to what's "right" and "wrong"...listen to your own body! Try not to worry and stress over too many things because truth be told, unless you pick it straight from the tree or out of the garden yourself, there is always going to be some possibility of something being "wrong" and this is moreso when it comes to packaged items...so you have to make a personal choice whether or not you will just do the best you can, pick and choose your battles and just enjoy this process or if you will prefer to just eat what you know you can trust and grow your own! Even produce has it's ups and downs and doubts about if it's safe or not or if it's organic or not or...

But back to products such as agave...the best thing you can do is call the company(ies) and ask them if their products are heated beyond a certain temp if you're truly concerned.

Also, Alissa is very good about making sure the products she sells on her site are truly raw to the best of her knowledge so you usually can't go wrong ordering from her...so look into the agave nectar she offers.

I've seen at the store--2 of the same brand..one was raw (and higher priced) and one was not.

To know for sure, I would e-mail...but I am assuming that with agave...unless labeled raw..it may have been pasteurized or something if you are going for all raw.

We buy the Madhava brand. It says that it isn't heated above 115 degrees.
