Do you give your kids flaxseeds? I've heard some people on this forum suggest a danger?

My kids love Alissa's banana flax crackers with almond butter. They've been eating those lately, but I noticed when I changed my little one, that the flaxseeds were coming out whole...so he's not digesting them. Maybe I should grind them up first?

What'cha think?

How do we know if they are raw? I went to Sprouts this morning and found a big bin of them, but unlike the other things in bins like nuts, etcetera, it does not indicate whether or not they are raw...any ideas?

Yeah, just grind them up, easier to digest that way and offer more benefits. Grind as much as you will use at one time to make your flax stay fresher longer.

Flaxseeds will sprout when raw, so just do a test with a little bit to see if they will sprout (buy just a sampling). One time I totally forgot about a cupful of flax soaking and had a forest growing.

You might also want to get into chia seeds for great benefits. There may be a thread about chia seeds floating around here somewhere.
