After reading the "no poo" thread I decided to try giving up shampoo. I haven't washed my hair for two weeks. I've just been washing with water and massaging my scalp. At the moment my hair is somewhat greasy, limp, itchy and has a slightly musky smell. What should I do?

Also, what do you recommend for body/face soap? At the moment I'm just using an inexpensive, vegetable based soap from Whole Foods. I stopped using my proactiv. I decided if the stuff bleaches my towels, I don't want to use it on my skin. So... now my face and body are oily and are more broken out than usual (I've have always had acne problems. I'm 25.).

Ideas???

Just a suggestion, I would highly recommend you soak in a raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar (ACV) bath. Run a nice warm bath and mix in about 1/2 to 1 C. ACV. If you don't have any on hand, they carry it at Whole Foods. I prefer Braggs brand. When you soak in it rinse your hair in the bath waterand gently ex foliate all of your skin under the bath water. Do not rinse after you soak either, it is not necessary.

The ACV will bring your skin back to a neutral pH level and remove the oil and smell issues as well as leave you hair clean and shiny. You can do this as many times as you need to feel fresh without soap and shampoo. I have also noticed that it helped my skin clear up quickly and cuts/bruises heal fast. Oh, by the way...it will NOT leave you smelling like the vinegar :D (there is no smell when you towel off).

One more note, I also drink 1 tsp. ACV with 8 oz water and raw honey to taste (cuts the sour) two times a day for energy and cleansing from the inside out.

Hope this helps :) ,

Christina

And also epsom salts..

its amazing for clearing up oily skin.. just soaks it right up

Take a bath with a couple of cups worth in/or just rub it all over where u need it most leave for a couple of mins and wash off.

Works straight away.. your skin feels sooooooo much smoother and tighter.

Ohh and for the hair.. I wash in just water have now for a couple of weeks as well.. I notice no difference in my hair, am on 100%raw only just started but I have been taking Msm for the last month so maybe thats why my hair hasnt really changed.. Give it a go ;)

RM that's an interesting tip. I may try it today. I only have a stand-up shower at home, though. What do you think about taking a warm wash cloth and massaging it into my skin since I can't soak in it?

I have also been using no shampoo and have been using water only on my hair for almost three weeks. It is not past the greasy stage yet, but has been getting better. I will have to try the acv. I had been using it some before, but haven't been recently.
I usually use just water on my body, or I make a mix of baking soda, sea salt, and olive oil in about equal measures. It works really well for me. I don't usually use it on my face, though.

I don't know about the not washing the hair thing...mine would get pretty gross. But I personally avoid SLS by washing it with homemade castile soap. It's gentle, and I don't need to do it often. Much less drying than commercial shampoo, which always seems to contain SLS, even if it says "natural".

try mixing some baking soda and lemon juice with some water to wash your hair. They both help with cleaning the hair and scalp and the oil. I do a NO_POO but I use only conditioner. I make sure there is no SLS. Then every once in a while i do the baking soda and lemon juice to give it a good cleaning.
