And I'm feeling better than ever. I had some "cooked" cravings my first few days, but after making this mistake of eating some tempeh and cooked spinach (my stomach did not take kindly to it), I have lost all desire for cooked food. Besides, I'm learning how yummy raw food is, and actually craving greens!

I signed up for a raw "un-cooking" class this Saturday! I'm so excited and lucky that there is a resource nearby. I'm also going to a raw restaurant locally with a good friend tomorrow- she is thinking to join me on the raw journey! Maybe I can get her on RFT too!!

Thanks so much for letting me write! This board is awesome- I love reading all of the positive and supportive posts on here. What a great community! I feel lucky to have found it :)

Congrats! I will be 1 week raw this Sunday. I haven't had any cravings yet for cooked food, but chocolate oh how I have wanted some. I did make some fudge balls, but my blender had some trouble with the dates. I guess I didn't soak them long enough. They were still delicous although not as smooth as they should of been. I rolled them in fresh coconut shavings and I ate 4 of them last night. That satisfied my craving nicely.

I really need to learn how to prepare more raw food dishes. Many of the recipes in Alissa's book sound delicous, but I need to see someone prepare them so I can get the hang of this type of food prep. I ordered her DVD's and I hope to learn more.

Good luck with your second week.

Thanks! :)

I've been craving some chocolate too Ellen! I guess its a hard habit to break. I saw some raw chocolate online, but there is a Mother's market nearby and I guess I'll go check there first. Have you ever tried cacao nibs? They are yummy, but more bitter than the dark chocolate I love so much!

Yay for the one weekers! Lets motivate eachother through our 2nd week too :)

I love Alissa's raw food DVD! After watching it I definitely felt able to tackle the raw diet.

Chocolate is definitely a hard habit to break. I have 3 favourite raw recipes that work for me whenever I get those cravings.

CHOCOLATE MOCHA MILKSHAKE - Alissa Cohen

1/2 cup sesame seeds
2 cups coconut milk
1/2 cup coconut meat
1 Tablespoon honey
1 Tablespoon carob powder
1 babana

In a blender or Vita-Mix, blend until smooth

BLACK TAR - Juliano

3 cups maple syrup
2/3 cup olive oil
2 Tablespoons vanilla extract (optional)
1 cup carob powder

Combine the above ingredients in a blender. Belnd well and enjoy. Keeps indefinitely. Makes 4 cups. {You can use agave instead of maple syrup]

CHOCOLATE MOUSSE - Diana Stoevelaar

1/2 cup pitted dates (8 medjool) - do not soak
1/2 cup of agave nectar
1 tsp of non-alcohol vanilla extract
3 avacadoes, mashed
1/4 cup of extra virgin coconut oil
3/4 cup of raw carob podwer
1/4 cup of raw cacao powder (ground nibs)
1/2 tsp cinnamon

In a food prcessor using the S blade, process the first 3 ingredients until smooth. Add the rest of the ingredients and process until creamy, stopping to scrape down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula. Add a bit of water if necessary to make more creamy. Process until combined.

This can be frozen and made into fudgesicles. :)

Congratulations on your second week of raw! Enjoy the journey!

Blessings, Luminea

Thanks for the great chocolate recipes!

I got my dvd's tonight and I can't wait to watch them. I am a bit of a slow learner when it comes to cooking.

I am feeling so much better even after only 1 week so that is going to help keep me raw. That and all the wonderful support found on this group.

I just finished reading a book that I think everyone should read when starting the raw diet--as well as folks who have been raw for years. It's called "12 Steps to Raw foods: How to End Your Dependency on Cooked Food" by Victoria Boutenko, and is loosely based on 12-step programs such as Alcoholics Anyonymous. She offers so much helpful advice on living raw and staying raw in a cooked world. She discusses pitfalls that all raw foodists face, even those who have been raw for years, and suggests coping strategies.

Victoria also disusses health as more than just chanigng our diet--the need for exercise, fresh air and sunshine, gratitude, and living life passionately doing what you love.

This book is a great key to being successful on the raw diet, and I highly reocmmend it.
