View Full Version : Sprouting Barley!

OMG, I've been trying to sprout barley for 4 days now.... In a sprouting jar.... I soaked one cup overnite, then started the rinsing process. At first, I exposed it to light for two days, but nothing was happening.... Then I remembered someone saying it shouldn't be in light, so I covered jar with towel, but left screen opening exposed for air to get in..... Anyway, this morning, when I got up and went to rinse it, it was PURPLE :eek:
Has anyone ever had this happen?????? What on God's good earth would cause this?????? Needless to say, my yummy barley went down the drain.... don't want to take any chances after getting that awful stomach bug last week :(

HELP.......................:confused:

I wouldn't eat it, mine have never turned purple. You might want to start over again and don't put it in under any light. Normally I soak mine like you said overnight and then wait, I rinse about 3 times a day and that is it.

They sprout pretty fast!!

Do you put yours in a bowl and cover with towel or a sprouting jar? Maybe a glass jar is too much light? Altho, I figured the dish towel covering it would be fine....Thanks for the info...Another thought is making Alissa's chili with sprouted chickpeas.... Has anyone ever done that????
