Hi everyone :)

I have never tried hemp seeds before and are just about to buy some online. I wonder if I should by the whole hemp seeds or the shelled ones? can I use both of them without doing anything with them like soaking? do they taste differently? and can I replace nuts in a recipe with hempseeds?

I will be grateful for all answears!

I've never seen unshelled seeds. I think you want the shelled ones, which is how they're sold in protective packaging. I don't think they need to be soaked.

The sad thing about Hemp seeds in the USA is that most of them are irradiated. They do this to make them sterile so they won't get free and mess up the marijuana crops. Actually, they still won't admit hemp isn't pot. I have heard that Tree Of Life in Arizona may have non-irradiated ones. good luck!!!

I bought hemp seeds for the first time a little over a month ago and was sort of surprised, they look alot like sesame seeds, and pretty pricey so I wouldn't think they would be a first choice as a nut substitute except possibly where you use sesame seeds?? JMO. They taste wonderful and I love them sprinkled on my marinated veggies or on my salad.
