after i guzzle down green juice (not smoothie, but juice). maybe i'm starting with to much? as juicing is new for me. any tips from some juicers out there?
i make collard, kale and lemon juice. i think it's the collard that makes me want to hurl. i heard you should only juice the veggies you enjoy eating. does this ring true to anyone?
i like eating kale, spinach, parsely and cilantro. and of course all the lettuces.
perhaps i'll try just juicing those.
i know that lemons are supposed to be alkinalizing in the body but i heard, for some people it actually is acidic.
so maybe it's the lemon too.
any thoughts/experiences?

i don't juice, i make smoothies. but i just thought i would give my thought that i would add some sort of fruit to that to sweeten it. i have had juices before (my mom owns one, but i don't) and i couldn't stomach anything that wasn't sweetened w/some sort of fruit or raw sweetener. hope this helps.
It could definitely be your body detoxing immediately. I have on one occasion had the same thing happen, and it was after I had non-raw food (after having previously eaten only raw food for a while)...
It could also be that you do not have enough hydrochloric acid in your stomach, in which case, you could start out with smoothies and be raw for a while before you juice.
Juicing can bring on detox quickly enough that it's really not a good idea unless you're prepared to feel like crap for a short while. (Then it gets better.)

Add some apples.

The immediate detoxing thing is interesting...I had never had green juices until a few weeks ago I had a shot of wheatgrass and I came over all queasy, then for the next few hours I felt fantastic! I've had some more wheatgrass since then and was fine with it...it makes perfect sense!

Maybe the juice is just too concentrated for you. Try adding a little apple or especially carrot. If I juice greens I always do it with carrot and I've never felt ill from it.

My juice, which I like, but it may just be me:
2 oranges
1 bunch kale
1/2 lime or lemon.
I think it's very, very drinkable, and now I've adapted and can cut the fruit down to one orange...it's all in the taste bud adaptation :)
Good luck!

I second adding apples. I love green juice with an apple juiced with it. My fav is apple and a pound of spinach. It looks green but tastes like apple and just makes me feel good all over :D

You will find your own way, but research on the internet suggests: veges and fruits together, some people don't believe in that, some do. It works for me. I couldn't do GS's after two months. The thought of them made me gag. After christmas I had a hard time getting back on track and luckily only had stuff for a GS. Made one and it was absolutely delicious, helped me to get back on track...now I'm doing GS's and juicing...

I am totally with you on this one, as I have been experiencing the same thing, but I think I have using too many ingredients and drinking too much too soon.
However, I find adding carrot or cucumber or tomato lessens the stong taste of spinach or cabbage, and is lovely to drink. A strong spinach or cabbage taste can be abit too potent.

....Kale is too strong for me in green juice...haven't tried collards......
This is good:
head of romaine
handfuls of spinach
1 lemon unpeeled
2 apples
small piece of fresh ginger
{this is the Green Lemonade from Living Cuisine}
or leave out the lemon and ginger and use a whole unpeeled orange instead - this goes down nicely! Keep experiementing!

At the beginning of the month I was drinking about a quart of collard/apple/lemon juice - YUM. I agree with every one else cut your greens with something and it will be more tasty and reduce the immediate detox symptoms. And if you are drinking more than 8 oz. in a sitting it may be a lot for your system to handle at first.

when drinking green juices... try to keep your greens to 1/4 of your juice and using other items to make up the rest... like apple, carrot, beets etc.
i read somewhere and put it into my fasting notes... that a green juice should only be 1/4 greens.
oh and you should dilute your juices with water before you drink them. ;) hope this helps
