Does anybody have a brand of raw, unscented coconut oil that they can recommend? I keep running across this as an ingredient, and the oil that I have most definitely smells of coconuts! I can see how some of these recipes would taste weird if you didn't use the unscented.
Cheers!

tropical traditions makes an expeller pressed, but it is steam deodorized, so i'm sure thats probably at high temps. i get my coconut oil from www.wildernessfamilynaturals.com and they have a few different types or varities in how they are made and taste. they are less expensive as well. the one that i use from them is the centrifuged coconut oil and the taste is very, very mild. i've used it in recipes and have not had anything taste coconutty. the website is very informative upon how each type is made so you can make the best decision for yourself. they sell samples for $3 plus shipping so you can try before you buy. hope this helps.

If it's unscented, then it's not raw. They've had to do something with it to eliminate the fragrance/taste. I found that out with shea butter which naturally has a wonderful nutty smell. Once it's been deodorized it loses its efficacy.
I agree with Wilderness Family Naturals. They make two, really nice coconut oils... one stronger scented than the other.

As others said, if it's unscented it's not raw, and even worst it normally means it chemically extracted (so it looses it benefits and gets contaminated with highly toxic chemicals).
Who doesn't like the smell and taste of coconut oil? I use mostly this oil BECAUSE of the smell and taste! Coconut goes well with nearly anything.
I get organic raw Nutica coconut oil, one of the one coconut oils made from fresh coconuts, other is made from dried coconut meat and can be loaded with parasites and other very unhealthy toxins. I highly recommend the Nutiva since it's freshly made and raw.

Thank you EPPP for the link to your post - don't know how I missed that!
Anyways, I know we are both into the I Am Grateful recipe book so it makes sense that the same issues are coming up :)
I have been using Nutiva's coconut oil for a couple years now (waaaay before I was raw!) and I love it. But definitely, I want to find some that is really raw AND not so strong tasting/smelling for certain recipes.
I'm going to check out the other brand - although I don't recognize it from my local health food stores.

Well, that's what I found with the Shea. Don't remember the process but the stuff went bad REALLY quickly (You'd think the opposite, eh?). For me, it's not right if it's got no flavor or scent. Maybe ask them what the de-scenting process is?
