Does anyone know what mushrooms are good for people to eat raw?
I am a mushroom lover and I really want to continue eating mushrooms now that I am raw, but I've read that most mushrooms are better for us cooked. I know people eat white button and portabellas mushrooms
Does anybody know about oyster mushrooms, shitakes, or any other "fancier" mushrooms?

I eat loads of mushrooms raw! Portabella, shiitake, crimini and plain old button mushrooms. I also rehydrate dried wild mushrooms for recipes. I normally marinade them in hemp oil, lemon juice and miso, especially shiitakes as they are quite chewy. Yummy though!

I once read that you should not eat shitake mushrooms raw. I was totally bummed. But I guess you can?

I red that oyster mushrooms are not good raw and some wild mushrooms . I use dry porcini. Shitake i like marinated -no problems - i didn't try enoki and miyake. Chantrelle mushrooms and lobster mushrooms - i ate only well cooked - i had stomach aches if they weren't.
Some wild mushrooms can be toxic.

I marinated shitake mushrooms last night for the first time - WOW! Yummo! My whole family loved them.

I'm really interested in this as well! We are big mushroom fans here, and have always read and been told that mushrooms are best for you cooked. So when we started eating raw, this was one of the first things to come up that we haven't been able to reconcile. We are definitely eating way less mushrooms than ever, as they just don't taste as good raw, IMHO. But maybe marinating them with some sort of acid "cooks" them? I've done that with shitake for different dishes.

I've been marinating mine in a olive oil/apple cider vinegar base with herbs added, and they are lovely ... even my children LOVE them.

This may sound completely crazy but...
Can eating too many raw white button mushrooms make a person feel very fatigued?
Ever since I've added them to my diet 5 weeks ago (about 8oz/day) I have been feeling extreme fatigue. It could be something else I'm sure, just wanted to run it by everyone and see if there's any connection.

Whenever I eat a meal with a lot of raw mushrooms in it (usually button mushrooms or portabella mushrooms) I always want to take a long nap afterwards.
They make me really tired, but it is a restful sleep. The mushrooms could definitely explain your fatigue. I don't know the scientific reason for it, but, based on my experience, raw mushrooms make me tired.

I like shiitake, maitake aka hen of the woods, oyster, crimini, and ports. I like to add maitakes to Alissa's angel hair pasta marinara recipe! As people stated above, there are toxic mushrooms out there so you should do some research on which ones are good. I've also read that reishi mushrooms are good for medicinal purposes.
