I take a great Ionic powdered supplement called Ionic Fizz......it has the calcium/magnesium and D in it to really relax me just before bedtime. I also keep a spray bottle of Time released sublingual melatonin by my bed. It's by Source naturals. Works like a gem everytime:p

I take magnesium aspartate and that helps. magnesium citrate (Calm) doesnt put me to sleep.
Melatonin and 5-htp does not work for me. But someone is helping me detox from mercury and the chlorella at night helps me sleep. Very strange cause nothing else has worked.
Serenite LT from native remedies works pretty well.
And life wave has a sleep patch, you can get a trial, However that did not work for me.

Thanks for your replies. I felt absolutely reassured when I went raw that I won't be having this problem anymore, as I read in Alissa's book that the natural sleep patterns will be established. I am newbe, maybe it needs more time to start work on me.

I left my chlorella out when I posted. I also take mine at night with my Ionic fizz.
By the way, did you know that magnesium aspartate is also a form of broken down aspartame? I used to take Natural Calm until I learned this.
Here is some information from Dr. Betty Martinis Yahoo group that I belong to.
Please do not use magnesium aspartate. Aspartate is 40% of the
aspartame molecule and is an excitotoxin or product that literally
stimulates the neurons of the brain to death causing brain
damage. It is discussed in great detail in Excitotoxins: The Taste
That Kills by neurosurgeon Russell Blaylock, M.D.
and also in Aspartame Disease: An Ignored
Epidemic.
Dr. Blaylock's detox program for aspartame discusses the type of
magnesium to use - www.wnho.net/wtdaspartame.htm Also, Dr. Carolyn
Dean has written a book about it called "The Miracle of
Magnesium". It's very important to protect the heart and brain from
excitotoxins, but avoid anything that has aspartate in it. It can't
be isolated. MSG likewise is an excitotoxin, www.truthinlabeling.org
You may wish to subscribe to the Aspartame Information List on
www.mpwhi.com where you can continue to ask questions and be helped.
All my best,
Betty

I read that Melatonin temporarily shuts down reproductive system, so I wouldn't play with this one...
Which Ionic Fizz do you use - Magnesium or Calcium? And, are raw foodists can use such supplements (sorry, I am a newbe)?

That is only in high doses of 75 mg or more. The average dose for the sleep aid is 3-5 mg.
Elinka - I too suffer from insomnia and it has not improved at all since going raw. I am going on 7 months raw. I take Melatonin and an antihistamine at night to sleep and sometimes I still can't go to sleep.

Wow! I do the same thing,Nurse. I take antihistamines to sleep. Are their long term negative effects for doing this? It can't be too healthy but then again neither is lack of sleep.

Do you have more info as magnesium aspartate being aspartame?
I dont understand why it helps me sleep.
I need to know since I am taking 4 a day!
Calm is magnesium citrate- how could that be aspartame?
When you first detox on raw foods it may keep you up at first but then should normalize.

Glad you found those links:) When I was taking the natual calm several years ago, it had the combination of the citrate and aspartate. Perhaps they quit putting the aspartate in it with all of the publicity on aspartate now? Just a thought.

I take the calcium, which has lots of magnesium in it as well. My body needs that calcium too:) This product is vegan.......no animal products in it, so it is fine to take.

Nope....no long term affects from it, it is not addicting and you cannot build up a tolerance to it. I look at it this way. The harmful effects of sleep deprivation are far more dangerous to the body than a conventional allergy medication that has been around for 30 years. I have tried all kinds of natural remedies and nothing works and I won't use Ambien or Lunesta because of the side affects. I also have allergies so it keeps me from sneezing all night. But even if I didn't have allergies, I would still use it.
