OK, I know there are a gazillion threads on the benefits of coconut oil--b/c I read them!--and I've been using it in recipes and enjoying it, and on my skin and loving it. BUT...last night, for the first time, I had a whole Tbs. in my smoothie for dinner. I was queasy immediately after drinking it, had to lie down for a bit, then, over the next three hours, had 3 bm's. No more queasiness. Quite obviously, it was clearing out my system. That is impressive. :)
I think I'm going to try to slowly incorporate it by the tsp or 1/2 tsp into my diet and build up from there and see how that feels. Just wanted to share!
Have a great day everyone.

The only time I ever bought coconut oil, it looked like crisco shortening and had a strong odor to it. Is this how it should be? I've wondered about it...

It's white and solid at room temperature and cooler. When it is warm(even a little bit) it is clear and liquid. Good and useful Stuff!

Hey! What is Telford near? I'm in the Gatlinburg area. Are we close?
The coconut oil should smell good, like coconuts. You may have gotten some that had become rancid.

I'm near Johnson City, up in the Blue Ridge! Looks like we're about 2 hours away from each other. I hardly EVER see anyone on here in TN, let alone on the east side! Nice to meet you!
Thanks for the info on the coconut oil. I may try it again at some point...

I agree - the coconut oil has a very mild smell. I have been using it in my smoothies for a few weeks now and I love it. I also rub it on my skin instead of lotions and creams and my skin is so soft. I can definitally tell the difference!:p

The jar I had, smelled almost of plastic, and when I was using it to cook with (years ago), the coconut oil overpowered the rest of the dish.

just to chime in and say that i'm about 25 miles north of chattanooga. i live in cleveland, tn. i know it's not east coast, but i'm still here anyways :D .and coconut oil should be white when it is at colder temperatures, but when warm it will be a clear liquid. it depends upon the brand for taste. i've had a few different brands and each taste has been different. so depending upon what you are wanting will determine what brand to buy. personally my favorite is from wildernessfamilynaturals.com. i get the centrifuged kind, and the taste is very mild, barely any at all. hope this helps

Thank you lanettasmouse! What I would like would be one that tastes of coconut, rather than crisco, if you know what I mean.

hey amberstorm! a good brand that tasted more coconutty is tropical traditions. that was the first brand i ever tried and they are very good, but a little more expensive than the other one. you could try one of the other coconut oils that wildernessfamilynaturals makes though, because they have a few different types. they explain what each type is and how its made too, so very informative :D .

I just adore my huge jar of coconut oil because it's exactly the form I need it WHEN I need it. it's a liquid in the summer when I crave it & a solid in the winter when y skin needs it.
Nature is completely perfect.
