View Full Version : Raw nuts.
Can raw nuts be found in an ordinary grocery store? As I said in my other post, I am trying to slowly convert myself to raw foods. One thing that concerns me is I live in a small town. There are two grocery stores here. Closest health food-type store is about a 45 minute drive.
I haven't gone in yet to actually look for nuts that say raw, but I'm afraid I will only find roasted ones.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no...depends on the store. Usually if nothing else, regular grocers will carry raw walnuts, pecans and maybe almonds. But if you're not afraid to do online transactions, there are many places online that you can order raw nuts, seeds and just about any other raw items from. Some nuts don't specify being raw, but if they're roasted, they're almost guaranteed to say so. Like, I rarely see the word "raw" on a bag of unroasted walnuts - same with pecans. Finding raw cashews, macadamias and other less commonly eaten nuts may be more of a challenge to find in your small town area, but ya never know!

Oh I hear you, the closest Health food store for me is 60 miles away. It is so worth it when I can get down there and shop.
I would say most of the nuts in the baking section would be raw. Just make sure it doesn't say roasted etc..

Thanks! I didn't think about checking the bagged nuts in the baking section. I do have a 1lb bag of mixed raw nuts on order right now along with some flax seeds to grind in my grinder. But, I think I will try and make a once a month trip to the closest big town and do a stock up.
