I'm so proud of myself! I did it! I had such a craving for hot chocolate lately. I"m here in cold New England and I'm missing my usual comfort foods but I'm feeling so good on raw I don't want to put processed foods in my bod. So, I came up with this recipe this morning and its really yummy.

Raw "Hot" Chocolate

1tbsp of raw cocao powder
1c of raw almond milk
3tbsp of coconut milk
1tbsp of raw honey
1tsp of organic vanilla extract
a healthy dash of cinnamon
a pinch of sea salt

I put the ingredients in a sauce pan and gave it a whirl with my cuisnart wand blender. And then heated on very very low heat just until it was warm to my fingertip. Which to my suprise is plenty warm enough. Really yummy.

I think next time I might use just 2 tbsp of coconut milk and more cocao powder. I want more chocolatey and a slightly less rich texture. I think I will also look for raw ancho chilies to infuse in the drink. To this I may add a dash of black pepper and cayenne. As I tend to prefer more mexican type chocolates. Spicey and chocolatey.

Authenticme,

Thanks for sharing. :D Hot chocolate was one of my favourite pre-Raw drinks so I'm going to try this for sure. Might make some today even. Great idea to add some spice to give it that heat intensity too. I'll try it without first to see how i like it.

You are so welcome! Let me know how you like it. You know what else I noticed? After drinking it, I got a total buzz like I had coffee or something. I suppose that was the raw cocao working. Better then coffee!

that does sound good, thank you so much. Another thing you can do -- that I do when I'm making myself a mug of warm raw soup -- is to pour boiling water into your mug and leave it while you heat your drink, then pour it out and pour the drink into the hot mug -- helps keep it warm longer, and is lovely to wrap your hands around as you drink!

Mmm I love raw 'hot' chocolate! There are so many ways you can vary it too! If you have a high-speed blender you can chuck some soaked cashews in and it goes super creamy! Its also crazy how much yummier it is with a bit of vanilla, like in your recipe! Goes so perfectly.

We just got slammed with 8" of snow here in the city. Raw "hot" chocolate is feeling pretty righteous about now!

Autheticme,

Okay I just whipped up your raw hot chocolate recipe and I changed it the way you said you would have done it after drinking it.

-So I put in 2 TBSP of cocoa
-2 TBSP of coconut oil (I have coconut butter which I realized would make it even dreamier)
-I would add 1 TBSP more of honey if I were to leave it like this as I have a real sweet tooth.

It was really good as it was but I added a banana to it to make it more breakfast like and it was delicious.

Next time I'll have it without the banana and double it and add coconut butter in place of the coconut oil. :D

Wow! You used coconut oil instead of coconut milk? I was a little afraid of the oil cause I wasn't sure if the texture would come out right enough for me but now I'll try this. I bet coconut butter would be really good though. The banana sounds dreamy!

You gave me another idea that I'll try next time I"m at the market. How about a Raw raspberry truffle "hot" Chocolate? Add some raspberries to the recipe. I'm going to get raspberries next time I'm at the store!
